The country is going woke!

You were just a tomboy. That's when a girl feels like a boy. No need to remove your breasts. You are not a man now. You are a woman with no breasts. Masculine and Feminine are not about body parts. That's the misconception. Just be a masculine woman.

Sad to see this nonsense gaining traction in Japan.

4 ( +22 / -18 )

Japan has enough issues with mental health and now the j-gov is throwing fuel on the fire.

By following the science? that makes no sense.

You were just a tomboy

This may be difficult to accept for some, but prejudiced ideas born from not even having an interest on a topic are not enough to contradict actual experts.

If gender is non-binary, why the need for the switch from one to the other?

If there is not only two colors why the need to choose one to wear?

The issue is the identify of the person, making a false dichotomy argument only reveals an invalid position.

Sad to see this nonsense gaining traction in Japan.

Only people with deep antiscientific bias would think following the best recommendations on human health from the experts is "nonsense"

XX can not become XY.

XY can not become XX.

THAT'S science!

The acceptance of mental illness as fact is nefarious in my opinion

That is of course not the case, retrograde prejudice thinking making up the claim that something is mental illness without support from the scientific consensus is what is nefarious.

Making up global conspiracy theories without any evidence is also completely out of the question, just an excuse that people try to use when they are confronted with the fact that the people that actually know and deal with mental illnesses contradict them.

THAT'S science!

And that is irrelevant to what is described in the article which is gender and identity.

Again, what scientific institutions do you think would deal with this? what do those authorities have to say about it?

-7 ( +8 / -15 )

Today’s so called science is what whatever the billionaire donors want it to be.

No, it is not, you just need to believe that because accepting scientific conclusions that you don't agree with is outside of your capacity.

Unless you were born a hermaphrodite, no amount of hormone therapy or cosmetic surgery will change your gender.

This comes from a completely mistaken understanding about what is gender, why don't you check what actual scientific, medical experts have to say about it?

The world needs to stop passing off serious mental health issues as "normal".

In this case the problem is people falsely claiming something normal as a "serious mental health issue".

This reeks of gender identity in the context of political socialization theory.

Forced upon J society, if it wants it, or not

Soon this radical form of the conceptional accepted norm's of women's gender definition will have an adverse effect on political orientation, the very gender difference in education taught to children, to further the political interests, pander to the will of a toxic brand of gendered political perception.

The court said on Oct. 11 that such a legal requirement violates Article 13 of the Constitution, which stipulates all people must be respected as individuals.

Nothing wrong here. Call it like it is. Scr w the holy roll. This courts going places.

The country is going woke!

no it’s not! It’s letting a single individual live the life they want. To be happy with their life. In no way is this going to impact my life, my friends ,your life or anyone we know apart from those that want to be happy. We had the same nonsense about gay and lesbian couples. When we used to jail them, and inflict chemical castration. They’re not going make us unhappy, or impact our lives. I wonder if the “woke” argument would have been used when women were fighting for the vote, or we’d invoke the “woke” chant when we wanted to give slaves their freedom or even the same rights to sit on a bus or use the same bathroom/restaurant as a white person.

XX can not become XY.

XY can not become XX.

THAT'S science!

Exactly. Can't change gender.

1 ( +9 / -8 )

The existence of XX or XY only refers to a set of chromosomes which will eventually directly and indirectly control numerous genes thereon and on other chromosomes to express themselves at different levels during the many stages of development of an individual. There is so much variation in those genes and how and where and when they do and do not work independently, and that's where the variation in all characteristics, including identity are produced.

XX can not become XY.

XY can not become XX.

THAT'S science!

A transgender man in central Japan obtained a copy of a new family register on Thursday that now lists him as male, after a landmark ruling this year approved for his gender to be changed without sterilization surgery.

20th century, here we come!

XX can not become XY.

XY can not become XX.

You can't run a DNA test with your eyeballs and some people are XXY and XXX. That's also science.

without undergoing surgery that would have taken away his reproductive capacity.

So when he gets pregnant and gives birth that will be interesting to see how the situation is dealt with. It will be an amazing headline of a man giving birth to a child. However, at his age it seems unlikely.

If gender is non-binary, why the need for the switch from one to the other?

Some idiot put the slot on all the forms and continues to enforce legal repercussions if it isn't filled in?

If human history were compressed into a year, it was only about 45 seconds ago that anyone began buying into this delusional nonsense.

A woman who "feels uncomfortable being treated as female" is still a woman. If you don't have a Y chromosome, you're not a man.

Since when does "feels" get to determine facts borne of objective reality?

Very disturbing that Japan is importing this horrid characteristic of modern Western culture.

If human history were compressed into a year, it was only about 45 seconds ago that anyone began buying into this delusional nonsense.

It was only about 45 seconds ago we stopped killing people for looking different, too. Should we go back to that?

A woman who "feels uncomfortable being treated as female" is still a woman. If you don't have a Y chromosome, you're not a man.

Considering many women could fool you 100% into thinking they are a man with the proper clothing, I would say you're not making an argument based on the world you live in. Even more can fool you with a little testosterone.

With his (sic) gender identity now matching the one on his (sic) family register, Gen Suzuki, 49, told reporters at the Hamamatsu municipal office in Shizuoka Prefecture that he (sic) can now "live at ease."

I'm curious what was preventing Suzuki san from living at ease with "F" on a piece of paper instead of an "M".

-2 ( +4 / -6 )

At 49 he is unlikely to be getting pregnant. I'm sure the court took this into account.

The country is going woke!

Well at least we know that doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll go broke.

Looks like the types who liked Japan’s previously more traditional approach to these matters are a bit upset. Same-sex marriage is also an inevitability.

Give it few years and maybe the theocratic regimes of the Middle East will the best place for them.

I know scientifically there is an in-between for some.

What is disturbing here is to read he still has reproductive organs as a woman.

Did he/she had both (chromosomes are not XY or XX only then...) ? If so I would admit chosing himself was her/his right.

If not then it is a politician stance only and it is worrying.

Why don't they give the full answer ? It is always lacking enough details to be scientifically acceptable. It stirs debate uselessly and will do wrong to that person by some wrong people getting agressive towards such people because of ignorance.

I know scientifically there is an in-between for some.

What is disturbing here is to read he still has reproductive organs as a woman.

Why? Everybody has to has exact cookie cutter bodies in your view?

Did he/she had both (chromosomes are not XY or XX only then...) ? If so I would admit chosing himself was her/his right.

Why only chromosomes? Sometimes the sex hormones or the physical sexual characteristics are defective. Should cis people be forced to prove they have the right hormone levels and genitals?

Seriously?

This really reads like a have your cake and eat it too situation.

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

XX can not become XY.

XY can not become XX.

THAT'S science!

FACTS!!

I'm still okay with the decision because it's not my business. BUT....BUT...stay away from the men's side of the onsen. I won't have this person freak my boys out.

This person should remain in the women's side of the onsen.

You have no idea what this "trans" dogma is about. Let me tell you:

What authority do you have here?

Getting hysterical after watching rightwing North American podcasts?

I think we’ll take it under advisement.

It’s a difficult topic but I don’t see how you are in a position to tell us anything here.

THAT'S science!

Ya think! So how would you like to explain how XXY and XO chromosomes? That’s science too.

you may also want to look up XY chromosomes in females. That’s great science. Not an opinion. Science! I guess people think what they learnt in school is enough, but I guess your not a geneticist or a scientist.

Intersex is an old concept in the middle east. Nothing new here.
