These Olympics are a complete failure…virus, heat, humidity and telling falsehoods when the deal was signed. The nation will have lost massive amounts of cash…and lost ‘face’…in the olden days the JOC would be ordered to…do you know what!

It's already a wash.

The weather prediction is that there will be two more typhoons around Tokyo probably next week and the week after next. The path is unclear now but if the do hit Tokyo then so many games will need to be rescheduled. Not fair on the athletes by any means! Knowing that July - August weather is the worst in Japan the organizer brought the game to Tokyo during this time!

Surfing as I have said is a lifestyle. It is not a game.

"sUrFiNg iS a LiFeStYlE!!"

No. It's a game. A past-time. A hobby. A sport. Nothing more.

Did you watch any of the videos of the surfing events? We did.

Wow! Didn't know I was talking to the Borg.

Yes, I watched several runs.

The waves were junk and you could even see the garbage from below churning in it.

I agree that the water looked pretty bad and the waves were not great, but still better than the tiny waves that usually show up in Japan.

Unhealthy and nothing fun except for braggers that think they can surf.

Braggarts and boasters and boors.

Sorry, this event should not be in the Olympics. Surfing as I have said is a lifestyle. It is not a game. Nobody wants to ride junk waves that are unpredictable and crash and dump. Just because you can bail out backwards and get canned ooohs and ahhs as they added to the videos means nothing. Embarrassing to say the least.

Who writes this stuff? Definitely not a surfer. Massive wind storm waves are known as junk. We hate them. Pain in the neck to get out unless you can find a good rip, and if you do not know the area you will never find the known rips.

So glad you were there to help propel your country to victory!

Who writes this stuff? Uh... a writer, maybe??

So you think the normally tiny waves would have been better? Okaaaaay...

The event started 15 minutes late because of the weather and the wet roads slipped up several athletes during the cycling section.

I saw a couple of hard falls during the women's triathlon. Looked pretty painful

On the topic of temporary Olympic disruptions @roninroshi 6:33p your speculation may have already happened to some poor, unfortunate individual that was ‘*inexplicably**’ tied to these Games.

- “Japan Olympic official dies after jumping in front of train” Jun 7

*NO follow-up as promised by JOC Seiko Hashimoto was ever presented to the public & media -

- “The requested article has expired, and is no longer available.” -

“Rest In Peace” and “Condolences” to his surviving family & friends. Maybe the truth will come forward, one day.-

Like the weather, ‘times’ have changed *@roninroshi 6:33p*** *but, perhaps you are on to something. Traditionally, disgraced officials are expected to commit,… dare we say it? - “amakudari*”?

“Olympics are complete failure…will have lost massive amounts of cash and lost ‘face’… in the olden days the JOC would be ordered to…you know what!” -

What? - Retire early with a ‘golden parachute’ and a sizable pension, most likely.

Perhaps the OVillage windows are designed not to open? @kurisupisu 7:13am (unverified. Do any of the ‘resident experts’ know?

@7:13pm: “Open the windows in the Olympic venue and let some fresh air in….”

Take care Tohoku!

Here in Miyagi, we have intermittent rain. The typhoon is due to hit in the early hours of tomorrow I believe. There is that strange wind you get before the storm comes. Last night at sunset the sky was eerie purple.

Shouldn't this be called a subtropical storm since Tokyo is in a subtropical climatic zone?

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

.. it was a pathetic excuse for a storm, even a 'tropical uprising' .. as always .. everything gets blown out of proportion .. and then they dont mention the REALLY nasty weather until half of the mountain slides away .. sorry .. ranting .. was a nice afternoon to dry washing though :D

I'm looking out the window right now and the sky is an incredible blue.

It's a bit windy, but there's no way you could call this even close to typhoon level.

"Miyagi and neighbouring Ibaraki", really?

Did just Fukushima prefecture just melt into the ocean, or is it a prefecture not allowed to be mentioned in Olympic-related articles because, you know...

whipping up welcome waves for surfing

Steady waves and swell make for great surfing and light on and offshore winds depending on the time of day and the tides. The second and third of the sets are usually optimal. Surfing is a lifestyle. It is not a sport. It is fun.

Except for a little rain here in the morning, the weather has been beautiful here in Shinjuku. And not to hot. It shouldn't be too bad in the stadium.

Silver (mens) and Bronze (womens) to Japan. That was exciting to watch in the big waves!
