Trump-related books popular in Tokyo stores

Bookstores in Tokyo have set up shelves featuring books on U.S. President-elect Donald Trump. Prior to Trump's victory over Hillary Clinton in Tuesday's election, stores had several books on both candidates.

At one major bookstore in Yaesu, staff put all the Trump-related books into one section immediately after he was elected president, Fuji TV reported. On the shelves are approximately 20 books that analyze Trump's words and policies during his election campaign, his views on American society in the midst of the campaign, and books by Trump himself.

Customers have been stopping by the shelves since early Thursday morning. One woman told reporters that she wanted to know more about Trump's numerous radical comments on immigration, the economy and diplomacy, and that she hoped to learn something from his experience as a successful businessperson.

A store employee said that interest in Trump will likely continue for a while, especially as he starts to make further statements. The books about Clinton have been pulled from the shelves.

Meanwhile, NHK reported that rubber masks of Trump have soared, with one toymaker saying that it had received over 1,700 orders for Trump masks since Wednesday. Masks of Trump and Clinton had already been popular for Halloween.

in a few months Trump will be one of the most admired american presidents in history, just wait and see. He will be way busier handling real problems of the real world instead of getting worried about what others might think if he says/does this or that. Expats in Japan know more than anyone else what this "honne - tatemae" brings to your business: everybody's afraid of speaking their minds and standing out = endless pointless meetings and nothing done at all

Go Trump!! I fully agree with Thunderbird above, great post! I admire Trump, he says what he think and has no truck with this political Correction crap, allowing your country to be invaded by immigrants of the you know what religion who attack women and boys and expect the culture to change to suit them. It's over, things will change. Happy days at last!

Please stop starting your posts with "We Japanese." You can speak only for yourself on the discussion board.

tiger_tanaka, how little you know.... This man's isn't successful at business, many of his businesses have failed, he has just exploited his workers, syphoned funds from his charity and not paid tax to get where he is today, maybe you need one of these books to see who he really is.

Popular when read as gothic horror novels, I suppose.

jimbly We Japanese like to think positive. Trump has been elected the next President so we should embrace it and look forward to the future. Regarding his failed businesses, it takes many failures to achieve success, don't you agree? If you don't fail you will never succeed. We Japanese like his GANBARU "never give up" spirit. This is why Trump is popular with us Japanese.

It is same as Animal Planet, just curiosity.

very fascinated

That's an ungradable adjective. Just "fascinated" will do.

Yes, we Japanese, and I think I speak for all Japanese, groupthink in this manner... why do you talk like that?

Great. now that the Japanese are starting to study him, I'll get a lot of pop quizzes and then surprised looks like "you didn't know? But you're an American."

Jimbly, just by failing doesn't mean you're a failure. Just look at Thomas Edison. Trump is worth $3.7 billion. He's got a great wife and kids. Thanks to his failures he knows how to restructure debt. Which is exactly the reason I voted for him. Hillary had a sham marriage and ran a slush fund. She's either a crook or incompetent for "not knowing" you can't send state secrets on her private server. Trump figured out a way to avoid taxes until the year 2046. He's going to turn things around for us.

Apart from one or two comments, this comment section has become a 'Brown-nose-athon' .

I'd say reading the books are a waste of time because every time Trump speaks he rewrites his own history.

Before becoming president, not much concrete can be said about Trump beyond his marriages and kids because reports on his businesses vary, reports on political beliefs vary, reports on his friendships vary, and no source about any of this information can be trusted.

This Japanese woman disagrees with you. I'm not fascinated at all by him. He seems ignorant and loud-mouthed, like a parody of the worst stereotypes of Americans.

I don't think Trump's election means the world will end, but I think our relationship with the US might be in for a rough time.

"the feelings of my fellow country men"

What about all the poor ostriches that are forced to run down back roads in Gunma to get to the Trump book sale? Have we no feelings?

A Japanese friend showed me a book about Trump that claimed Bill Clinton was an illegitimate bastard of someone in the Rockefeller family. Weird stuff.

Homotenashi, we are talking about books about Trump and the information contained therein, not Hillary. so by your reckoning, avoiding taxes is ok? if everyone did that in the US, it will be a wasteland by 2046..

They selling postcards of the hanging, they're painting the passports brown and fitting up the Donald in the finest Trumpery like Andersen's ridiculous royal to dignify the office, but it won't work any more than putting lipstick on a pig. Can the Japanese understand the phoniness of a presidential Trump?

Can the Japanese understand the phoniness of a presidential Trump?

Yes. We're used to politicians who make big empty promises.
