Nice gesture.

very nice gesture.

It is a great gesture from a foreign government and should lift the spirits of the locals. it's just a shame they are getting next to bugger all help from their own government.

Some good news at least around Xmas time.

Really nice gesture from Chile.

Really nice story, but I don't understand why it is going to Tokyo and Osaka first? They have plenty of tourist attractions, this is a gift for people still very much recovering from a disaster. If big city people want to see it, they can take a trip and face the reality of Tohoku.

It's nice to see goodwill gestures between nations rather than the usual squabbles.
My mom, in Sendai back then, described how the tsunami flung boats up on top of buildings and seeing the whole coastline wiped out.
1960 wasn't that long ago and people in my mother's generation should've remembered and taken note of the dangers and likelihood of tsunamis.
They began building atomic plants along the coasts nearby just a few years after this incident. That's why I find today's government insincere when talking about "not being able to imagine" such a large scale catastrophe happening like it did in 2011.

jusbcuzisay I totally agree...People should all travel to the disaster site to see it and show their respects.

That's nice but I think they would have preferred a large check instead.

Yeah, but from their own government.

Wow! What a beautiful gesture.

AFP, FYI: Not ancient! They were erected between the 13th and 16 centuries.

Did it need a struggling poor foreign state to shwo this gesture?

"The five-meter Moai statue" looks to be about two meters tall in the picture.
