There is a BBC Documentary Japan's Children of the Tsunami. It's really good

I was just thinking yesterday that no matter what life deals you, if you've got a family to come home to, you win.

I'm glad this family won.

I remember when I first read about this mothers anguish. So glad that it all ended well for her and this story proves that even if you lose your home as long as you have your family everything will be alright in the end.

in some city's like ogatsu watanoha and ogawa. When I was there a lot of people called us volunteers heros . I think the real heros are the victims the one that are still livening there. Like the this young lady and her family. Most important are the kids. I have thought a lot of Japanese kids how to surf here in Waikiki. That's why I went to give back to them. The kids are the future!. It's been almost one year. I don't have much in Life but what I do have I am greatful. I pray everyday for the people there. God bless them. Just remember KOKOROZASHI Tohoku !

I avoided this story in Yahoo news, Just because of the fear of sad ending. God is great

Yes it was very sad. I read her story back in April. I am from Hawaii and work as a surfing instructer in Waikiki. No one should be scared of the ocean, But I went to Ishinomaki in April-July too volunteer and mylife has changed also. I could not believe what I saw I'm so<>

Great Story! I remember the first picture and caption at the time and it was heartbreaking. Having children of my own, I would be devastated if I outlive any one of them. I didn't see the follow-up story and am happy they were reunited. Children are surprisingly resilient and I hope Raito will fully recover. Ganbatte kid!

Anyone know if the post-disaster mental health services provided in Japan are sufficiently dealing with this tragedy?

Good to read.

Until I read this article I was always under impression that she was single mother. Japanese media never makes mention of her husband, the boy's father. I wonder why that is.

Yeah Zen. Totally agree. Enjoy every moment and love the family you have knowing we are truly blessed.

With most of the depressing and devastating stories we read in the news day in and day out, it is really nice to read an uplifting story like this. It warmed the cockles of my heart.
