Two earthquakes jolted eastern Japan on Wednesday morning but there was no tsunami alert issued, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.
The first quake, which had a preliminary magnitude of 5.5 on the Japanese seismic intensity scale of 7 , hit at 2:02 a.m. The meteorological agency said it struck at a depth of about 10 kilometers in northern Ibaraki Prefecture and registered a 4 in Ibaraki, Fukushima, Tochigi, Gunma, Saitama and Chiba prefectures.
Only one injury was reported -- a 71-year-old woman in Chiba fell from bed and sustained a minor arm injury, Kyodo News said.
The second quake occurred at 7:16 a.m. and had a preliminary magnitude of 4.6. It originated at a depth of 50 kilometers in southern Ibaraki Prefecture. It registered a 4 in Ibaraki, Tochigi, Saitama and Chiba prefectures. It registered a 3 in Gunma Prefecture and in parts of Tokyo.
JR East said the Tohoku shinkansen Line suffered a power outage, with operations of seven bullet trains temporarily suspended and other trains delayed by up to 15 minutes, Kyodo reported.

Wee bit of activity over night.
Not sure of the science, not sure there is a clear answer, but I wonder are these are "good' as stress point relief or indications of something bigger on the way.

I was near narita airport. It was a fairly short and heavy earthquake.

Great, if the NK missiles don't get you, a mega quake will. What a lovely country to live in...

I sure hope that nobody was severely injured or died.

They both felt stronger than the official "2" at my place in Tokyo. Can't argue with facts though so this doesn't bode well for my apartment's chances in a larger quake lol
