Two typhoons approaching southern Japan

Two powerful typhoons, the 15th and 16th of the season, were heading toward southern Japan on Saturday afternoon, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.

Typhoon Atsani was expected to approach the Ogasawara island chain, some 1,000 kilometers south of Tokyo, on Saturday night, with winds of up to 252 kilometers per hour, according to the meteorological agency. It is moving at about 15 kilometers per hour.

Typhoon Goni was forecast to approach the Sakishima island chain to the south on Sunday, it said.

Airlines announced possible flight delays and cancellations as the two typhoons neared.

When one makes a direct hit, then tell me it's much ado about nothing. Always better to error on the side of safety then put life's in danger.

kawabegawa: "It will be the usual fuss about nothing."

You mean like Typhoon 11, which killed a few people and left quite a few homeless and damaged a lot of homes? You call that harmless? Don't you think it's better to be safe than sorry? I know if they downplayed it and it caused the same amount of damage there'd be a lot of people justifiably upset that more wasn't done by way of warning and preparation.

Stay safe, peeps! Even though 16 looks like it's going out to sea instead of coming towards Japan I think it'll still result in rainfall, and if Goni (15) keeps on its current path the kids first day of school in Osaka (scheduled to be the 25th) will be a day off after all.

I went to the beach today to chill out, catch some breeze. I noticed were riptides man and then I started thinking about all the horrible natural disaster that hit this country, and came to assume that mother nature is quite possibly Japan's stepmom.

It will be the usual fuss about nothing.

There's always at least one of you (if not a dozen) on every typhoon thread-

"It's not windy in my neighborhood, NHK crying wolf again" "Another big fuss for a tropical storm" "Well, that was nothing"

It seems so obvious, but I guess that for some it's not, that the weather service is required to tell us when a large typhoon is approaching, whether or not it turns into something lesser down the line. At this point it is a typhoon. Whether it remains so is not determined by the JMA or NHK. There may come a day when you'll be able to find out if it will be windy in your back yard, but that day isn't here yet, so you'll just have to watch the weather and use your head and stop making the same comments every time one blows by...

One typhoon is headed towards southern Japan, the other is headed out to sea and is no threat to anyone on the main islands.

Goni however will hit Miyako and Ishigaki tomorrow then Okinawa and Kyushu on Monday

You're welcome. You should have seen it a few days ago. It resembled Hitler with the two typhoons being the eyes, Papua New Guinea being the mustache, Australia being his open mouth screaming desperation, and the continent being his hair. I know, kinda weird.

Some media say that the typhoon, 15th (Goni) killed 10 people in the Philippines which often bears the brunt of typhoons.

Now people in Sakishima island chain and Ogasawara island chain gonna brace themselves for each typhoon. Pray for their safety.

Once it makes the turn north, and starts building speed it will lose most of it's punch by the time it brushes Kyoto with the outer edge, if it goes as forecast Osaka wont be affected with anything other than rain.
