Two women apparently jump to their deaths in Tokyo business district

Tragic...May they RIP.

Rest in Peace to the poor young women. They had their whole lives ahead of them. No problem could be worth ending it all, except for having a terminal illness I guess. So sad.

According to police, neither woman was wearing shoes. 

This phenomena of removing shoes before jumping is, I believe, tyical only in Asia. I wonder why?

The shoe part always freaks me out. Whenever I see a pair of shoes up on a building, I get the hibby jeebies.

Being a salaryman in Japan is tough. Being a salarywoman even more so. What they experienced I don't even want to imagine.

Pretty sure it would directly above them. But if the police don't know from where they jumped how could they be sure there was no struggle and come to the conclusion that they jumped.

Whatever, it's a terrible waste of life.

Perfect plan if the yakuza/criminals wanted to murder someone...just take their shoes off before pushing them off! The police would close the case the same day!

Exactly. I would consider suicide if I had terminal cancer, but people in their 20s? So meaningless, and also so sad for their parents who raised them.

Should check their involvement with a certain roppongi based membership-only kousai club... oh wait, that club is too politically connected so I guess must be suicide.

Doing it on a Sunday at least spared Taro sarariman having to 知らん顔 it out of existence. It makes you shudder, trying to comprehend the absolute despair these two must have felt at the way their lives had turned out and the choice they were about to make.

You would think that if the police can confidently say the women "jumped", why can't they determine where they jumped from? I mean, how do the police know these women weren't drugged and thrown off the roof or out of a window?

I'm not an expert, but I'm going to assume that we don't ever hear about this story again in the media. I'm also going to assume that we don't ever hear about the company they worked for, why they may have "jumped" or anything else because whoever is responsible probably has lots of money and power and the police will "be busy with Olympic security" and don't have time to investigate. Case closed.

So sad... I pray for the family and friends that have to deal forever over the tragedy.

Whoever is the influencer, need to be searched and caught.

It's like taking your shoes off when you go in a house, and the need to not be wearing shoes when you enter the afterlife.

Yeah, nothing's changing. It's not like Japan has cut the number of suicides by roughly 1/3 over the past decade or so.

I’m sorry, but aren’t there easier ways to go? I mean, jumping like that. That must really hurt!

@memoryfix - what a dark question to ask but to answer it, an average citizen has very limited options that are the least painful. Another alternative ways are lighting up a charcoal grill inside an enclosed space, playing hangman, drug overdose, or jumping in front of a train. RIP to these girls, I pray that whatever drove them to do such may no longer haunt them in the afterlife. I wonder why they leave their shoes though.

Never ever, @Zoroto. It’s a nonlinear parable, such a jump/ flight. In addition someone could have killed them anywhere else and put them there afterwards. Although probability for that very small, admitted.

Utter nonesense, there is 100% more male suicide in Japan compared to women. Men shoulder much more of the expectation and pressure in Japanese society. Why do you make demonstrably false statements?
