Two young children found walking along expressway in Fukushima

Two young children were found walking along the side of the Tohoku Expressway near the town of Nishigo in central Fukushima at around 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Police said the two children, a 5-year-old boy and his 3-year-old sister, were discovered walking down the road by a truck driver, 34.

The man picked the children up and took them to the prefectural highway patrol office. The pair were uninjured. According to police, the children were found about 2 kilometers from a bus station along the expressway.

Police believe the children had walked from their home, three kilometers from the bus station, then entered the expressway from there and got disoriented.

Bugger / woman: Although I said that it may be hard to be a good samaritan, I did not say that I would shirk at the task. Not everything is/should be easy in life. Indeed, it is those times when we do good deeds in adversity that we actually show who we really are and become a fully paid-up member of the human race. Glad you guys have done/do/would do the right thing. I'm sure Knowtail does/would too. ;-)

Really fills my heart with emotions that two innocent kids wander out - unaware of any danger.

Perhaps at this age, they dont even realize that they would need to find their way back once it turns dark.

the kids should know better not to take rides from strangers!

hang on.. in cases like this... ???!??!

To make sure even one child is safe it is worth a few hours inconviniance for me. I hope the police see that not all people are scum.

I'd take the risk too if I see a child in danger. Children can walk quite a lot when they want to. My brother and I did that when my mum favored another sibling and we wanted to runaway from home. So we walked quite a long distance, and returned. I just did what my brother told me to do and my legs did hurt.

Sorry but I'll always stop and help a lost kid. So will my wife. We once saw a kid about 3 yrs old stepping into the road and back. The local Japanese just looked. Drivers avoided him. I stopped our car and went to him. His dad had left him waiting at the lights while he went to a shop. He threatened to call the police on me cause I refused to let him take the child cause he was obviously unfit to be a father. When the police arrived I demanded they arrest him so did mrs buggerlugs. Of course they refused. Good on this truck driver, I wish more were like him (and no perverts!!)

Thank you Lord for saving these kids!

You know the drivers name, cool. Thank him for me too.

Knowtail, I agree. It is hard to reach out and be a good samaritan in a modern day society fearful of peodophilia and litigation. I'm a straight talking gal, and ya have to admit - if ever there was a 'walk by on the other side' society...

I would imagine that TENS if not HUNDREDS of Japanese had driven past them and thought 'okashii na' and kept on their merry way.

Maybe they all remember the case of the gentleman a few months who picked up a little girl who got lost trying to find her grandmother's house. He stopped at a koban to ask for directions as he couldn't find the grandmother's place... and was promptly arrested for kidnapping! That certainly discourages even looking at a child nowadays.

Pat on the back to the truck driver. However, the parents will have some explaining to do when the other shoe drops.

Thank God they are safe

Yo Biglittleman - Don't diss the toddler who can go all the way to the supermarket by himself and come back without shitting his pants. The mother in tears because he is all grown up, although keep in mind he was with probably 6 staffers from fujiTV.

Hey kirakira25 - Just because your kids are lazy doesn't mean that all of them are. The story gives us nothing. I love the lynch the parents thinking and all the negativity on this site.

Maybe the drivers thought the kids were on TV. That same show where the parents send the toddlers on a errand all by themselves. That is one of the stupidest Japanese shows to date.

To have walked 2km along the highway, they would have been on the highway for nigh on 50 minutes. I would imagine that TENS if not HUNDREDS of Japanese had driven past them and thought 'okashii na' and kept on their merry way. That is heart breaking.

I have a 5 year old and a 3 year old - no way would my two voluntarily leave home and walk 3 kilometres. ItS bad enough trying to get them to walk to the supermarket with me. Im sorry but there is something weird about all this.

Ghosh, even the toddlers know that travelling through the kokudo is rubbish.

Good on the truck driver, it took a lot of courage for him to take them to the police station. No doubt he was interrogated for several hours and made to fill out piles of red-tape.

Wow fascinating news on JT! Kids walking along a street.

parents probably thought the kids were just playing outside of their house.. the kids decided to walk a little far and then got lost.. maybe the parents were not watching the kids for just a minute or two, but then the kids were gone. i can only imagine the parents were so scared when they couldn't find the kids. i cannot blame on the parents .. who can imagine your little ones walking that long distance and be on a high way!!!! parents should be thankful that the driver stopped and made sure the kids were safe :)

Where was mom and dad? Seriously!

I wonder how many people drove by the poor tykes. Kudos to the driver.

this truck driver should be given a reward or an award for his kindness. as for the kids' parents/guardians..

Who cares what the parents were doing! The two little kids are safe thanks to that wonderful truck driver who picked them up and took them to safety! The parents will have to deal with their feelings later and I'm sure it was hell for them when (hopefully if..) they found the kids missing!

5 and 3 year olds????? Oh my goodness... Thank God the truck driver got them safe. They walked like 3 km from their house?? That's quite a distance for little kids.. they must be all lost and had no idea which direction to walk to to get home.

Thank goodness it worked out OK for the kids. But who was supposed to be watching them? Someone is in deep kimchee!
