I think the wind won't be a big problem, especially if you're leaving from Narita, but there will still be tons of rain. You might still be okay.

In Kumamoto, all schools canceled. Zero wind, almost no rain, actually kind of a nice day. Daughter sleeping in. Tomorrow will bring hellish heat and humidity.

I see AFP has bought into the weather hysteria...makes it sound like all Honshu is being inundated. And yes, by international standards it's now a tropical storm.

The Japanese weather people don't seem to differeniate between the criteri of typhoon and storm, at 990 Hector Pascals, it isn't a typhoon. Still, dangerous and laden with moisture. Take care.

THIS IS HOW PEOPLE GET THEMSELVES KILLED. Stay indoors during a typhoon/tropical storm etch etc. Don't go outside!!
