Typhoon moves away from Japan, leaving 16 dead or missing

Didn't need the telly to tell us it was windy - howling, rattling the storm shutters, flattening the garden & blowing away anything not tied down or very heavy. The house shuddered. If you missed it, you were very lucky.

Hokkaido TV reports some roofs that flew away in Erimo and Nemuro. Water is knee high in some streets there. But nothing compared to what happened in Honshu. Heavy rain and moderate strong winds in my area.

I have never experienced such a huge typhoon. Many people working Tokyo suffered from this devastating storm. From North to South of Japan, earthquakes, landslides, and water damage, all of the area suffers terrible damages.

The typhoon has been downgraded to a tropical storm since 9 pm last night, so why is it still refered to as a typhoon by the hysterical media in Japan? Then we had the TV all last night telling us it's "extremely windy", accompanied by pictures of a flag hanging limp, trees not moving at all (despite the announcer claiming they were) etc. OK, it rained a lot, but in Sendai the winds were quite modest, with a few occasional gusts.

I found that funny too. I saw a new report where the announcer was saying that there were high winds blowing away umbrellas, but on the screen, people were walking with umbrellas just fine.
