China is once again being blatantly threatening to it's neighbors. If I were Taiwanese I would be gearing up for total war. I hope China will realize that it is not invulnerable, and stop acting like the newest bully on the playground. Dare I use the word "uncivilized?"

china is only doing what the us has been doing for many decades.

"The DF 21D is unique in that it is believed capable of hitting a powerfully defended moving target—like the USS George Washington—with pinpoint precision. That objective is so complex that the Soviets gave up on a similar project."

This makes you wonder if the Chinese missle can actually perform as advertised.

So this missile can achieve ( subsonic ) mach numbers ? Hmmmm, sounds like a fairytale

....and the US does not have it either? right

And the military build-up moves on. Leaders want peace? Sure.

i wonder why all these weapons when u have ICBM.

I'm quite sure the U.S. has something to counter any Chinese military threat.

Several weeks ago, a high ranking PRC Naval Admiral was pretty clear of the situation near the Taiwan Strait, or more specifically, his intense interest in stopping a carrier task force (read USS Washingtion). His conclusion was, they would not be able to stop the task force, but stopped they will be. There are very few things that can answer that question, but he did not elaborate.

Also, that article was soon gone, and I can't find it anymore. There are people in DC sweating it out.

@ toguro

I'm sure they do. But a) no defense is perfect and b) a lot of people have died from underestimating the enemy.

Weapons don't help much when they are poorly implemented.

Sounds like this bird was influenced by the Pershing II.

The only way the DF-21D could penetrate is if it's fired in multiple salvos.

And according to online articles, as part of the DF-21D's IOC, there are now 3 recently launched Chinese SAR satellites that are assigned specifically for naval target acquisition. In the event of a conflict, the U.S. can take this trio out rather easily.

The PRC Admiral was "drawing a line in the sand".

I've studied this, and the PRC equated Taiwan/ROC as the exact equivalent to Cuba (see Cuban Missile Crisis).

@ afroengineer

Because ICBMs cannot be depended on. They are just a single attack weapon that a country can utilize in the event of a conflict. You need to have multiple weapons to keep your adversary honest. If you only have one attack weapon, you are already defeated.

@pointofview

Yes leaders want peace, but when you have all kinds of possible threats, you need a defense. It's a perpetual cycle that will continue to move on. It has been this way since the begining of time. And it will never stop. Everyone wants peace, but never fully trusts anyone else. Thus, offenses/defenses are born.

The US military presents in the pacific is a direct threat to Chinese people as western world grows hostility at China! I do believes the DF21D missle was far from stopping the US navy, so thats why China needs to invest more over air power and navl forces! By the way the transparency issue, it was definately unconstrcutive when you are discussing with a partner that is always holding a blame game atitute and no matter what is saying your stories was unconclusive, it should be cut off!

America was haunted by the defeat in north Korea by Chinese forces is the main reason they are paranoid no matter and whatever China is going to do!Remember Wen Ho Lee and Gowadia case? The entire nation was shaken ,so you can imagine what if this anti carrier weapon came to IOC!

As long as that crazy dude in North Korea doesn't get hold of this, I think we are " safe " for a while.

Is that run through google translate? I don't get it.

If China were really intent on stopping a carrier group they would just use a low yield nuke. It's not like they give a crap about world opinion or anything.

China is developing a new missile which will will erase ALL USA and Europe with one shot. And China will rule all the world. Poor russia should give massages to Chinese balls lool. They will curse themselves for giving all the weapons secreat to China.

so much for a "peacefull Rise" Let them do something stupid. the whole World be on them & IF china tries soemthing stupid. believe they will also have to face Terrorist threats. if people/ countries are gonna "defy" US im sure they WILL defy china.

@ReformedBasher

You're correct. But I really don't think the U.S. military is sitting around, underestimating the Chinese military threat. I'm quite sure that everything is taken into consideration, and defenses are already either in development, or currently being deployed for their offensive capabilities.
