Safe? Yes. 100%? I don't think so.

Sure, he got it right, they are safe 100% of the time.....when they are not flying and on the ground!

What is China's reaction to this deployment? Can't be too happy.

I wonder what strange and unusual definition of the word "safe" this guy is using?

No machine, especially one as complicated as this one can be 100% safe.

How about relocating these planes and the people who service them to US, rather than Japanese territory? Guam, for example?

That would make Japan 100% safe.

paulinusa, who cares what the Peoples Republic of China thinks? The planes are safe enough and if we only did 100 percent safe things, we would do nothing. About moving the planes, not a chance until China gives up claims to the Okinawa Prefecture. While the Marines are of limited help, the Base at Kadena is very useful in defending Japan as are these aircraft.

You know what else isn't 100% safe? Passenger jets. Therefore, we should ground all passenger jets or move them outside of Japan! And don't even get me started on cars!

Luddites, I swear...

Nothing is 100% safe. There is human to be accounted for. That's like saying this condom is 100% safe, you have other factors to account for. I would believe this article if it read F-22 Stealth Fighters : the safest fighter in the armada.

Can they breath ? If they can breath they can pilot the plane. Is that common sense or what ?

He is confident that the planes are safe. That doesn't mean that they are safe; they will never be safe enough for the moaners in Okinawa.

It has become apparent that there are two issues being spewed under the above topic. The first and primary issue is if the F-22 is safe and if there is some kind of corrupt conspiracy tied to declaring that the F-22 is currently safe. The second issue appears to be a call to 1-800-WAA-F-ING-WAA about the location of U.S. bases in Okinawa. Let’s keep it on topic and talk about the current F-22’s safety record, not its past record. ''Why not talk about its past safety record master?'' ''Because wax on wax off want a be, the fact of the matter is that when it comes to aeronautical maintenance, procedures, standards, and problems, the United States military and the JSDF are above and beyond any aeronautical organization in the world and have no calms about grounding a whole fleet of aircraft and instituting a world-wide safety stand down at a moments notice if a problem arises until it is corrected.'' ''This is regardless of make, modal, or the current ongoing mission.'' ''But why would they do that and how could they ever risk grounding a whole fleet of war machines at a moment’s notice Master Po?'' ''Because grasshopper want to be poster, there are plenty of other sharper tools in the shed to use while the problems are being rectified and reengineered thus making them one of the safest aeronautical organizations in the world!!!'' ''But!'' Shut up and get some grasshopper wax on wax off want to be...'' Maaaaaan.

People need to get over the China threat point.... Trust me, we're a bigger threat to China than they are to us. Hence high tech flighters or not, makes not difference other than the protection fee we pay to the Americans.

Yap. Japan was threatening China with threat that China was not 100% safe from Japan.

Tiger why would America or Japan attack the Peoples Republic of China? There would be riots in America when the Wall$marts are forced to close from a lock of merchandise. In Japan it will be the Juscco stores, etc. There is nothing to gain for the "movers and shakers" in a war.

Why would America or Japan attack the Peoples Republic of China?

Or, indeed, YuriOtani-san, vice versa.

If no one bought their products, China wouldn't be able to survive either.

So what's the point of having fleets of F-22's, Ospreys and huge US military installations on Japanese territory?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Why would China attack Japan? I don't know pay back or just for fresh water. As for the fighter, it is an unstable plane that no pilot can fly. The only reason they are flying now is the computer control system. But a human can not fly the plane without the computer control system. The pilot gives the command and the computer does the rest.
