The new missile is also able to destroy satellites on low Earth orbit.

yamashi the ability to destroy satellites in low earth orbit has been around for at least 30 years. I have no issues with defensive capacity and MAD was just crazy!

During the test off the coast of Southern California near Malibu, the missile opened its new sensor seeker in space for the first time and used new altitude control rockets to target a star, said a source familiar with the test, who was not authorized to speak publicly.

... the source went on to say, "unfortunately, the missile missed its target." Targeting a star?! How does targeting a bright fixed object in space evaluate a missile's ability to track and destroy an object in a sub-orbital trajectory that would normally be dark (in the Earth's shadow or with the Sun behind it)? I'm sorry but I can't get too excited over this "successful" test.

On Tuesday, the Pentagon announced that Raytheon was awarded a contract for more than $543 million for 17 SM-3 IIA missiles.

Sweet. Iran has been test firing medium range missiles recently too. The mullahs had best be careful and stop violating the UN.
