Good idea. Should have been done over a month ago.

Begin??!!

The protocol for since early this year was basically self-imposed 2 weeks quarantine. However, personnel were still able to interact with other military personnel and SOFA members were not really monitored especially if the family lived off base. So, they could go out anytime like when they needed to buy food and stuff.

Not only that but also infected Japanese workers were bringing it on base. It is still hard to get tested in regular hospitals across Japan, but it was really hard at the beginning. If you are full-time Japanese employ, you have access to the military hospitals. Some of the first confirmed infections were both American and Japanese patients at the military hospital in Kanto. I am not going to say which one, but before the lockdown, my Japanese friend was informed to keep the announcement of the first infected patients on base quiet.

Only hospital employees knew, but of course they told friends and family!

They have been testing everyone down here for a number of weeks already. And they have been quarantining the military people coming into Okinawa for weeks already as well.

It's just being reported HERE now!

So, US corona cases started skyrocketing in March. And Japan has decided that Americans on bases are American and that, you know, there may be a risk worth looking into. And they decided that .... now.

How about doing the testing and quarantine before they come over here instead of after they arrive?

Now?! Is this a joke?

How do you know that?

Only 7 months late in a world pandemic where over 4m Americans are infected.

Two conclusions

I am now generally surprised Okinawa didnt have a mass outbreak sooner.

And

Anyone calling for a lockdown is fool, the level of incompetence shown by both governments means it isnt going to work.

That it took them this long is just more evidence that U.S. troops are more a threat to the world than a protector. How about just send them all home and don't come back?

Arriving? It means they are still sending people to and from the U.S. Even after this has happened.

No-one should be arriving from the States full stop. Military or Civilian!

Don’t forget Okinawa is a group of islands. New case in Miyakojima...only one hospital. This is serious.

begin!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! bit late no?

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Wow. How is this even possible?

The country with the highest number of recorded cases, and now we start to test.

Your absolutely right 100%, Japan doesn't need any help with the Chinese incursions happening on a daily basis. Japan is 100% capable of handling this all by themselves, and if any aggression happens and ships get sunk and planes get knocked out of the sky, JAPAN'S Superior military is up to the task of averting WWIII, by what laying down and asking please don't do this?

Yep send the Yankees home!

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Shouldn't they be tested before leaving?

1 ( +1 / -0 )

GOD bless the USA! Its about time my fellow soldiers have decided to military action and enforce rules where Japan is weak at doing.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

It took these dummies 6 months into the worst pandemic in 100 years to start doing this?

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Retired military guy here in Okinawa, should of been doing this from the get go and stayed on it.....Over the years I have seen military leaders getting worse and worse.... Too easy on these guys now and you will continue to have problems
