Tokyo police referred a 47-year-old former representative of Uber Japan and a 36-year-old former employee in charge of legal compliance to prosecutors on June 22, but the prosecutors decided not to indict without giving a reason.

Of course not. I wonder what was the fate of the overstayers?

Countries, the US included, that do not hand down real punitive measures to companies that hire illegal immigrants have no business complaining about illegal immigration.

Uber Eats Japan employs terrible business model, no care for social responsibility

I don't know how Uber Eats work in Japan, but in the US Uber Eats delivery persons are users of Uber Eats platform, not employees.

The whole concept behind Uber is that all Uber drivers/delivery persons are self-employed workers who use Uber platforms to obtain work from customers.

Uber Eats, is part & parcel of the so-called gig economy. Uber undermines local businesses. Uber should be banned from Japan - Uber avoids taxes, profits go abroad and in no way do the adhere to any notion of social responsibility. Uber is a perfect example of vulture capitalism. Uber regularly violates laws and regulations.

Well, it's not like they are the only ones doing it.

They should get banned! Or at least make them teach their employees driving manners, their bikes and mopeds are the vermin of the roads.

Who will deliver food in the rain, cold and bike up hills?

And all for crap pay?

Not the Japanese, right?

More immigrants please!

The whole concept behind Uber is that all Uber drivers/delivery persons are self-employed workers who use Uber platforms to obtain work from customers.

That is causing this much of troubles. Uber should disclose each one of delivery persons' identities for users to make them to compensate for troubles on foods/drinks delivered or on traffic accidents, or any other uncomfortable service

Their cyclists are a menace. How about teaching them how to cycle while squeezing every last drop out of their slave labour?

Of course not. TIJ: heaven for employers, hell for employees.

Glad I'm not the latter.

THIS!!!!

Noticed the implication here: it's not Uber Eats that's to blame, it's two rogue employees who have of course been 'ex'ed so the company can pretend it's nothing to do with them. And of course the full weight of the law will fall on the Vietnamese who are the real baddies of this film. Riiight...

Never used them and never will.
