Just one love letter and apology away to say it is a OK and Abe shouldn’t worry.

The situation is well handled.

And.....as always and forever, the ignoramuses out there continue to spout off gibberish nonsense about how Japan is the 'aggressive' nation in that region, 'unrepentant' for its militaristic past and eager to once again showcase its military might to the world.

.

so Japa needs to equip itself ,too.

Can't rely on the Us to defend Japan.

Those days are over.

4 ( +7 / -3 )

The Shinz will protect us. No need to panic, Those billions spent on weapons are obviously justified.

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

Not to worry... Trump supports it.

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

Don't worry the US has "beautiful letters" and no need for concern. The all knowledgeable US "think tank" the very same ones who said for the past 20 yrs have said NK is nowhere near of this kind of capability until well in the 2030's is on top of the ball. Guess they didn't see the missiles coming across Hokaido or the most recent tests. hmmm.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

It seems to me N Korea will not fire missiles to Japan's soil even if NK is capable of missile striking, because NK has been waiting for large amounts of money and economy help for decades from Japan after kinda peace treaty is made someday. If NK did strike Japan, it will get absolutely nothing from Japan at all and Kim Jorg Un knows well NK will continue to be a poorest country.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

Why do you think that Japan has purchased the Aegis Ashore system? Information like this just reinforces the need for Japan to defend itself by any means necessary.

Yet there comes a time when the best defense is a great offense, and I just hope we never have to see THAT happen!

5 ( +6 / -1 )

And Japan can no longer even see these missiles coming before it's too late for interception, thanks to the GSOMIA termination.

But Abe san wanted it that way.

@Kwatt

NK has been waiting for large amounts of money and economy help for decades from Japan after kinda peace treaty is made someday.

Japan can't sign a peace treaty with North Korea because Japan agreed to recognize the Seoul government as the sole legitimate government of North Korea in the 1965 treaty.

Hence North Korea has nothing to lose by sending ballistic missiles toward Tokyo.

-10 ( +0 / -10 )

@Yubaru

Why Japan buy such Aegis Ashore, intercept missiles, other many weapons,,,etc? It seems to me Japan really does not want such weapons (in their mind), but Japan becomes to have to buy more because of US-Japan security alliance and Trump repeatedly says "Buy more weapons made in US". Of course Japan needs proper defense forces but not too much offense forces.

North Korea has nothing to lose by sending ballistic missiles toward Tokyo.

...except itself

7 ( +7 / -0 )

Japan can't sign a peace treaty with North Korea because Japan agreed to recognize the Seoul government as the sole legitimate government of North Korea in the 1965 treaty.

Moon ignored that 1965 treaty but this is different? It seems to me Kim Jorg Un will not care about it. He thinks NK and SK are independent countries, but at least enemy for SK.

And other countries can launch missiles into anywhere on the planet and have spent decades and trillions of your money to invade and destroy other nations for power and profit. All North Korea wanted was to be in control of its own country, just like North Vietnam and the United States during the American Civil War. But they didn't get to and live in divided nation at war so yeah....they got a little arms race going. Why even publish an article that they have weapons "capable" of striking Japan? Japan is not their goal.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

"An undeclared North Korean ballistic missile base in the country's southwest hosts medium-range missiles capable of striking half of Japan and anywhere in South Korea, a U.S. think tank says."

What kind of money wasted was spent on the US Think Tank to come up with this revelation? NK has been lobbing missiles thousands of miles for a few years now so why waste money and make this even news?

5 ( +5 / -0 )

I don't know why this © KYODO information is important to us living in Japan. Confrontation of what side is stronger I don't care. What's the missile range from N.K. is nothing a surprise. Chinese or Russian missiles are much scary from all points. If it's a sport you know more information not only from what is the adversary side but definitely what is this side. So, what Japan has to confront with N.K. missiles? No information about that. This is another one side story where we see political and military ballistic confrontations+threats and there's no referees...Bunch of media information like this one won't change anything a better life for us.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

"Buy more weapons made in US". Of course Japan needs proper defense forces but not too much offense forces.

Aegis Ashore is for defense purposes only. It should be able to detect and defend against missiles launched against Japan from NK.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

How is this news? We already know this. NK has already shot missiles into the Pacific and even right over Japan quite a few times.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Don't look to Trump/USA to care.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

It's an undeclared missile base that the article is about, not the missiles that we already know about. Unfortunately it seems the missiles that can hit Japan seem to be too prominent in the article.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Can't rely on the Us to defend Japan.

america spends more on the military than any of the next ten countries. This war mongering fear mongering is rancid at this point in time.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

NK has been able to hit Japan for years, what's the big deal?

Since Nov. 2017 though, no NK missiles have flown over Japan. Might have something to do with the negotiations with the Trump administration.

By that metric, you’d have to agree that Obama was excellent when it came to North Korea, in fact, even better than trump as Obama had more time where no missiles flew.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

The point of this article is not that nK has a missile that can reach Japan, its that they have a new base to launch them from. This means they're increasing their basing infrastructure and survivability.

nK Extended Range Scud, NoDong, and Musodong missiles can all range Japan. It now appears they are also developing extended range cruise missiles that could also reach certain areas.

This all occurred while the Great Orange Idiot was exchanging love letters with Kim the Murderer, and saying how great he was.

Kim is playing Trump like a two year old - which is exactly what he is, and Xi, the Mullahs, and all the other tyrants look on and laugh....

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Don't look to Trump/USA to care.

Considering the large number of military personnel with families stationed in Japan, "Trump/USA" would certainly "care" if NK starts lobbing missiles into Japan. The presence of military folks and their families serve as a guarantee of US involvement should Japan be attacked.

What, like Japan isn't doing the same. And that's on top of hosting the biggest warmonger on the planet.

Remind me of the last time either of the Koreas attacked Japan on a large scale...

A whole list of other countries have weapons for their protection aimed at potential threats aggressors and have never used them. Where is the constant propoganda and fear-mongering in regards to them?

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

@ lincolnman

North Korea has had missiles that could reach Japan for years, it has nothing to do with Trump

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

Kim is playing Trump like a two year old - which is exactly what he is

And your solution to the NK problem is... oh, you don't have one. Well, let's give Trump some more time, after all he has more than five more years left. Too bad Obama couldn't take care of this or even make any progress whatsoever during his eight years.

Kim is playing Trump like a two year old - which is exactly what he is

And your solution to the NK problem is...

Newsflash - Makes no difference what my solution is - I'm not an elected official...

Well, let's give Trump some more time, after all he has more than five more years left.

You mean five more years at Leavenworth?

Too bad Obama couldn't take care of this or even make any progress whatsoever during his eight years.

Yea, he was too smart of meet with the Little Dictator, getting nothing in return, and getting played like a two year old...

Must be a lovers spat....

2 ( +2 / -0 )

If Kim don't like the art-of-the-deal he can just sit Trump out.

D'ya think President Buttigieg can handle this one?

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Noko serves as the perpetual cash cow for the military industrial complex. And given americas atrocious track record, absolutely nothing is going to change to revert this status quo.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

Aegis Ashore is for defense purposes only. It should be able to detect and defend against missiles launched against Japan from NK.

Aegis is very good for defense, but if NK missiles do not come toward Japan's soil from the beginning, this very expensive radar and intercept missiles would be very useless. If Japan is at war against NK, Aegis Ashore/warship would be very good weapons to protect land of Japan. Japan is not at war now and NK will never fire missiles to Japan because NK wants big money help from Japan after peace treaty is made someday. Kim Jorg Un will never blow it.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

And your solution to the NK problem is... oh, you don't have one.

Um, your team were the ones claiming Trump had solved the problem. We never claimed we had a solution.

So your guy has failed at what you guys were clearly wrong about.

Our guys didn't fail at any of their promises.

So Trump's a failure. Again. Always.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

D'ya think President Buttigieg can handle this one?

I think nearly anyone could do a better job on this than Trump has. Including literally ever single Democratic hopeful at the moment, as well as the Republican challengers like Walsh. As well as my mom, my dog, my 9 year old daughter, the guy who works at the counter at the combini, your mom and well yeah, nearly everyone.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

i thought trump took care of this problem with all the loud noise , he made abt , how great friends , he was with north Korea???. This is a case of talk is cheap.
