Was thinking that this guy seems to have trouble getting the O to stick to the wall. Maybe a rearrangement iif the letters would help.

Good luck with that little robot fishy. The more information it can get the better. The whole world has a stake in sorting out these meltdowns.

TEPCO who I hold responsible for the nuclear disaster have made amazing progress at the nuclear site and along with other companies have built a range of robots but none in the end survive the 15 Sieverts per hour and 100 sieverts per hour inside the reactors.

The technology for dealing with the disaster does not currently exist and needs to be discovered and invented. Probably it will take 100 years and they are into year 6.

6 years is pretty good going as this is new territory for robotics! The problem with developing a robot or drone (whatever you prefer) to deal with this situation is that any electronic device they send down will be exposed to huge amounts of radiation and will inevitably pack up before it completes a single dive!

This robot (I have no issues calling it that) has taken time to develop so that it can A) withstand the radiation and B) have the manuverability to deal with all the debris that is down there! It's not like your standard deep sea robot that has huge oceans to swim around in this little fella has to navigate in almost pitch black with hundreds of potential dangers just waiting to destroy it!

Its a start give it a chance!

Well, here's a shot of what they saw inside reactor 3, but they do not yet know what to make of it. What are the orange rings for example? All of the superstructure that should be there is missing, rod extractors, gangways etc., and they can see no definite sign of any 'debris' (corium?).

In a previous investigation into Reactor 1 they found some sandy covering at the bottom of the reactor vessel, and a hole in the bottom of Reactor vessel 2.

@pacint: robots and remote controlled mechanism are different. For instance, robot receptionists.

There are many things that can't be remotely controlled. Like above photo. It has to find places to place each letter.

Robots can act independantly(sans human).

Bomb disposal 'robots' are still remote controled ergo drones.

They need Alien technology but that does not stop TEPCO to charge for it now for and to milk the decontamination as much as they can, of course, they decide about how much it cost, pretty good business for them and their affiliate.

Right after the Fukushima accident, foreign countries with knowledge and operational robots proposed their help. THIS ISN'T A NEW TERRITORY FOR ROBOTICS AT ALL !!!

The proud japanese government refused the help.

This nuclear disaster is the first of its kind and much more difficult than Chernobyl involving four reactors, three with meltdowns. TEPCO first needed to secure the plant and reduce the levels of radiation which are still too high even near the reactor buildings and impossibly high once inside.

The sort of robot in the link you have provided was used at the site I think it was called a quince but suffered from the radiation exposure. That size of robot can't go inside a tiny pipe to inside the reactor. Those need to be very small.
