Don't expect any aid to Ukraine to fly through India.
The majority of weapons owned and operated by India are of Russian origin.
India can ill-afford to offend Russia at this time.

India showing its true colors. The cargo doesn't belong to them and it's for humanitarian purposes. Japanese government also showing its true colors in PPP.

But, then again, there is this, from Rediff, April 21, 2022, 22:35 IST:
Perhaps a clarification is in order.

India has offered a lifeline to Russia as with China in importing discounted Russian energy. The Quad is just posturing and is really the Triad. Biden was trying to sanction India only a few months ago.
William Round
If you make your plan completely dependent on cooperation by Russian allies it was not a good plan in the first place.

It doesn't take long or much for Modi's clown mask to slip, revealing the rubles in one eye and ruthless Hindu swastikas in the other.

agree.
Hear Hear! Maybe its time to treat India more like a pariah.
more sticks less carrots.

Seemed weird from the headline, given India has been offering humanitarian aid themselves already to Ukraine, but when you actually read the article:
I don't think it is crazy stipulation honestly, not wanting foreign military aircraft operating in your borders. Surely Japan can just use a commercial plane like what was originally approved? Is there some reason it needs to be a military transport?
rdemers
India is digging its own political grave. Just send a jet aircraft, pick up the U.N. supplies and get them to those refugees who's lives are now shattered and are completely destitute. Take all this bickering to the war zone so neither side can hear the other under all the shelling. Time to move on...
EvilBuddha
All those with an agenda are out in full force.
The article clearly mentions that India has provided humanitarian aid to Ukraine itself and had no problems with that provided a commercial aircraft is used.
Send in a military aircraft with a further stopover in UAE and it sends out wrong signals.
India's ties with Russia go beyond Modi and Putin. The folks commenting here are probably not aware that Modi is more pro-American than anyone in India's leftist opposition or even in his own right wing party. And US has itself and it's foreign policies to thank for the close India-Russia ties.

Japan should then accept much much more refugees then. It'll save them having to send aid. Put your money where your mouth is. I'd like to see Ukrainians fill up the cities here. We're all very supportive, aren't we?
Rodney
Like the Italian ones, it is a cover to send weapons. Kishida promised weapons and military grade drones. Good on India for promoting peace.
Rodney
@pukey
not giving them money or aid is probably best. Especially unaccountable.

if you are looking for a nice payout by being friends with Russia through this, good luck getting paid in Rubles, which are worth less than toilet paper now.
Addfwyn
I doubt it has anything to do with that, considering India offers aid to Ukraine themselves.
You might be surprised to note that the ruble is actually stronger now than it was before the war started. So I don't think that would be an issue either.

A commercial plane yes but not accompanied by an armed Japanese military transport plane .
Its totally understandable.
I think its wise of India to stay out of the conflict whilst providing humanitarian aid.
If Japan's goal is to be humanitarian and pacifist only then why the JSDF transport plane?
Harry_Gatto
"armed"? Really?
