He was admitted to Tsukuba University High School through a temporary (from 2017 to 2022, only for 5 years) partnership scheme between the two universities, according to the agency.
According to a suvvy journalist, the pass was fixed by the end of last December under the condition that he receives general examination to know school's expectations for students on February 13th and applying to only this school.
On the same day, it was reported in the news that Prince Hisahito's composition, which won the 2020 Nonfiction Literary Award for Children, had many plagiarism.
The IHA said that Prince Hisahito would correct it, and the award organizer also replied that there would be no problem if the omissions in the references were corrected. However, the application guidelines state that corrections after application are not allowed.

Hisahito entered Ochanomizu kindergarten without taking the general entrance exam, which has a multiplier of more than 10 times, including lottery and group tests.
At the time, Princess Kiko, his mother was an Honorary Research Fellow of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science. A year before Princess Hisahito's acceptance, the school established a new "special enrollment system" to accept children of female teachers and researchers into its affiliated schools, and Princess Hisahito was the first to apply for the system.

Yes, the normal procedure in highest circles, no real problem with that. But first of all they should really care about his health and body constitution and give that elite boy a smaller school rucksack or bag and have some storage space reserved for him at the school for his learning materials, sportswear, art lessons accessories or musical instruments and so on. It’s already a torture to view how they treat him on his way to school. Looked on TV like an over dimensional and moving rucksack with a little boy fixed at it.

I mean it's a school entrance exam, everyone should pass one.

Seems many people are just thinking of the prestige of an institution when considering where to send a child to study.
If I'm the parent I wouldn't send a child to a highly competitive school even if the child will be accepted no matter what if the child is not very capable.
Should not need to be explained

well that’s how US President George W Bush got into Yale…legacy entitlement, especially if you consider that he ended up with a C+ overall academic average. Finally, how do you think he also got his Harvard MBA?
you mean like the former princess’ husband who failed the NY State bar?

Wow, incredible! Must be a really intelligent guy lol

on his entrance exam was merely is name...underlined twice with a sharpie.

Maybe to emphasize that it's a prestigious competitive institution:
Implying he's capable.
Also, if capability is suspect, by the parents or the student himself, I don't think a highly competitive school will be chosen

I don' t understand why they speak about university if he is only in Junior high school. Plenty of time before he can step foot for higher level studies. And maybe need to work really harder.
Indeed I imagine many schools in would have opened their doors for him, whatever his real level. Is exam anonymized ?
In my country, all at same time for baccalaureat (a joke nowadays though) or competitive exams for engineering schools for instance. He could try Polytechnique to see what he is really worth. No money will make you go in.

I'm sure the school would have admitted him anyway, even if he didn't pass. Pressure on the school from higher up.

It's a school entrance exam. The news would be if he didn't pass.

There are three competitive “normal” high schools in this area a stone’s throw from Komaba Todai Mae. Not a Gakushuin type of school.

The kid would have been admitted even if he had flunked the exams. Heck, Harvard or Yale would probably admit him in a few years even if he’s not qualified just because of his title.

He’s the same age as my son who studied his tuchus off to pass an entrance exam to a school similar to this one, so like many in Japan, this story resonated.
IIRC, at first, he was admitted automatically into this school and it was a bit of a scandal. Plenty of people at Yahoo complained that it was unfair. That impressed me as this is the future emperor. I guess the image of fairness is taken that seriously here. Weeks later and he had to sit this “exam“—obviously for the sake of appearance. From here he can probably enter Tokyo University—oddly enough something many at Yahoo don’t care for. All in all, it’s been an interesting story to follow offering various insights into modern-day Japan.

Well, good on him, but how is this really news? We're all human in the end.

I think that’s the point of the article. Indeed a big changes

TokyoJoe
And like all the other students if he is really lucky he can look forward to an entry level job at dentsu, working 10 - 12 hours a day, earning slightly more than a conbini worker being some old guys kohai.
