This is news why?

So far front row of vaccines are athlete and Imperial family but for later they already above 65, they'll got anyway.

inoculated at the Imperial Household Hospital on the grounds of the Imperial Palace, the sources said.

Even the place is not the common for ordinary people.

Well, I am happy whenever anyone in this country who is vulnerable to covid19 gets vaccinated.

Of course, only the important people get vaccines in this country.

at 87 and 85 then fine. No special treatment. Also, why do we need to know if its Pfizer or Moderna when both have been proven safe and effective. If not the best two vaccines out there. The fact an ex Emperor had within his home grounds is hardly surprising. The UK monarch had her jab within the grounds of Windsor.

I do know that the vaccine rollout is appalling - no defence. But I do know of quite a few people in their 60's who have either had their first jab or have an appointment shortly.

Let's just knock everything for the sake of it, eh Darius.

Well, I am happy whenever anyone in this country who is vulnerable to covid19 gets vaccinated.

Indeed, but specially important is for important figures included in the vulnerable population to show their support for the vaccines, Japan has too many people that are hesitant to take the vaccine, so anything that helps ease their minds is a step forward towards having enough population immune to stop transmission.

I would have expected that they would have received it many weeks, months, ago. It helps others to know they are doing it as well.

The Imperial Household Agency said in May it will not make public the vaccination status of the royal family members as it concerns personal information.

If there are considerations of issuing vaccine passports to the general public, then that means there is no concern about personal information.

Also, why do we need to know if its Pfizer or Moderna when both have been proven safe and effective. If not the best two vaccines out there.

Because when any prominent international leader or figurehead has gotten their vaccine, that information has been reported. Also, if there are people who are hesitant to get a certain vaccine, it might help their fears. And if it is news that the former emperor and wife got inoculated, then it is news as to what kind of vaccine they received.

Well - it will have only been one of the two - that should be reassurance enough.

Great News!

6 (?) down, only about 150 million more to go!

I am a staunch republican, but really great to see senior members of the Royal Family wait their turn and not jump the queue. A great example of leading by conduct.

Very different to Suga and his buddies who all helped themselves to the vaccine back in mid April and the young and fit athletes getting it now ahead of those that need it.

Perhaps Japan should go back to being a proper monarchy....

To be honest, if there was no special treatment, they would have got it ages ago. Special treatment has been given to people connected to the Olympics and, I bet, the LDP.

Ironically, Japan's royals represent the ultimate in social distancing.

They should have been vaccinated at a mass vaccination site as a show of solidarity.

And medical recommendations not to vaccinate all at the same time because of side effects like high fever temperatures were not taken into consideration? Unbelievable.

Almost certainly Pfizer, as this is what the the medical establishment here has decided for seniors. (It is indicated on the vacc invitations.)

Nobody knows at this point, and the whole evaluation process is dubious, see this Lancet article:

This is news why?

Because young, fit, healthy Olympics sportspeople can get a vaccine before the elderly imperial family that lead this country to peace for their whole lives.
