But that doesn’t mean “it is safe.” You should still be extremely careful, when you let your guard down, that’s when something bad happens, just take it as if it’s no different than anywhere else in the country.

What if they're like you and they're immune to all injuries and infections?

@ChabbawangaMar. 31 04:11 pm JST "None of these places would let you in even if you made the effort."

Not exactly true, for example most of EU nations would advice you not to enter, but if you wish (and you can arrange travel) you can enter depending on (urgent) need or professional reasons.

This is a concern for the region:  Japan, Korea, China.  Is there also a concern for Russia?

That do not state that the other one are not Japanese but that the nationality is unknown. And not being Japanese by family register doesn't mean they were not born and grow up in Japan. Neither that make then non permanent resident not travelers.

I will not even make comment about the fact that the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare could think than that is a relevant information (except for old creep driving a big black hummer or the like).

And why do you think that is anything like a relevant information ? Regarding the topic the relevant number, for the same day, is 31 : the number of people tested positive by the quarantine staff of boarder.

@goldeneagle

Come from our dear government : https://www.mhlw.go.jp/stf/newpage_10595.html

You can guess how they are to switch the number to reduce the growing impression after the cruise include, cruise exclude ; that will be from all cases to recovered ones.

@Do the hustle

This whole scenario is a bit like Darwinism. Only the diligent will survive. The complacent will not survive.

You mean like people in hospital, medical staff included. If they die is because of their lack of hygiene ?

practicing good oral hygiene

Because, albeit the inability of the virus to contaminate you in public transportation and at work, it can only contaminate you from you mouth. Nose, eye, wound, lesion, ... not a chance, virus will go the other way.

Face palm

Travel? Why is anyone still traveling?

@I don’t understand why so many people keep going on about testing. If you are distancing yourself and practicing good personal hygiene testing is irrelevant.

As long as there is no shutdown and businesses are open and people have to go to work, there cannot and will not be sufficient social distancing,

Where I am in Northern California seems quite safe . . .

But that doesn’t mean “it is safe.” You should still be extremely careful, when you let your guard down, that’s when something bad happens, just take it as if it’s no different than anywhere else in the country.

They need to advise against domestic travel as well, given what's going on nationwide.

I live in Hong Kong and this week I have decided to work from home.

My boss is pissed off but I do not care (apart from the fact it adds up to the mental pressure).

It is everyone responsibility to make bold decision, no matter what.

Japan it’s no more a foreign problem. It’s a local one one. The community spread of infection is in full swing now. The rising number of daily infections and over 60 infections in one facility in Chiba is enough evidence.

However, as usual the politicians will make it look like a foreign problem to cover their bad decisions.

Of these, 1032 Japanese citizens accounted for 56.7%, and foreigners accounted for 43.3%.

Can you please share the source as well?

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

Of course, the decision by the Japanese government is correct.

On March 30, in Japan, 1,820 people were found to be infected as a result of tasting.

Of these, 1032 Japanese citizens accounted for 56.7%, and foreigners accounted for 43.3%.

@Dave

The coronavirus is everywhere and until herd immunity (by survival from contagion or vaccination) or a cure (like Tamiflu for the flu) it will spread all over, no matter travellers or not.

The only current challenge is to maintain the outbreak to a level that the health care can manage it.

Only social responsibility by self distancing and hygiene can make the difference.

"Advises, advises, advises", J-gov's best talent yet, shift responsibilities to others.

All is well. Lots of people always award Darwin awards to people and should not. Don't blame the Chinese. Blame all leaders around the world. Not one has initially called it correctly. Not one.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

Nobody should travel unless absolutely necessary.

Nothing to do with spreading the coronavirus - it is everywhere by now - but to avoid being stuck abroad being sick or without any mean to fly back.

rgcivilian1 - Perhaps because like the idiots who are still traveling into the infected countries or coming back are not distancing themselves from those of us who are taking the necessary precautions.

What makes you think these same ’idiots’ would bother with getting tested? Again! If you are distancing yourself and practicing good oral hygiene these so-called ‘idiots’ you mentioned are of no danger to you or to anyone else following the distancing and hygiene directives.

This whole scenario is a bit like Darwinism. Only the diligent will survive. The complacent will not survive.

"Yet to receive that fax."

Cricky, that was tongue-in-cheek -- wasn't it? (My fax machine has broken down...)

2 ( +2 / -0 )

if people are distancing themselves and practicing good personal hygiene it does not matter who is infected because you cannot catch the virus if you are doing so.

The virus is also transmitted through contaminated surfaces or objects touched by those infected, distancing is not the only variable as you think.

Distancing is important, and working. Trump pushed it for another month based on the data from a database of daily fever readings showing that the numbers declined as people disappeared indoors. Faster, more portable tests are on the way but as of now still prioritized and allocated to high risk areas.

Larry Lacky - Testing identifies who is infected and with that information it can be determined who that person was in contact with and where they went.

Yes, testing will identify infected people. However, as I keep saying, if people are distancing themselves and practicing good personal hygiene it does not matter who is infected because you cannot catch the virus if you are doing so.

It just seems like Japan is at least a month behind the rest of the world in taking action against the spread of this virus.

noriahojanen - That's unfair and simply wrong. in much earlier of this year, ahead of many other countries Japan was already struggling with the virus crisis on the cruiser off the coast. What exactly were Europe and US doing or NOT doing during that predawn period?

Yes, Japan has that ship docked for over a month and had several other hot spots around the country from overseas travelers. However, that was in January. It’s now the start of April and they still have done nothing except asked and urged people to stay home on weekends. Now they have over 2,000 cases and it’s rising rapidly every day. What the US and Europe did is irrelevant to this article.

Personally I think the virus has been around a few month before the big breakout in Wuhan. Wife and I came back from Taiwan in mid December and within two week were knocked down badly with all the symptoms.

There was and will be again tremendous cross straight for business between both nations just as with HK. I had a friend fall ill with the symptoms a well after he came back from HK in late December.

We all got over it. Sure wish I could get an antibody check, but there are no test places doing that as my blood might have useful antibodies.

Japan needs to but I believe it is against the law to demand no travel etc. I think they can only suggest it and give levels of suggestion.

I recall that some of them were complacent (with bias), unfairly critical or even teasing about Japan's clumsy response (I acknowledge part of their mishap, though). Those "late-comers" have now outpaced Japan regarding patient number and death toll. Although they are still criticizing Japan's low testing number, in adding all up at maximum of extras judging from the current death cases, Japan still remains very low and far behind them. Now a second wave and thereafter is likely to come from abroad, especially those mostly affected areas. Let's face the fact. The virus is not racist, nor selective or discriminating against Europe, US or elsewhere. What counts is how (well) to respond. Of course this is what Japan must now learn a lesson from.

What, finally maybe too little too late? Here's one why are the travel agencies still selling tickets to these countries where you can leave this weekend.

"Japan is also rushing to stem a rise in infections brought in by returnees and foreign visitors, with imported cases making up about one in four of the total in recent days."

Please provide evidence of foreign visitors arriving in recent days infected with coronavirus. Where did they arrive? From what countries?

Which hospitals are they in?
