I wonder how many People from Italy have recently entered the Country and are roaming freely amongst us unawares that they may be spreading the Virus here, not that it really matters, I guess, as if they're not already infected they may get infected from one of us.

@JCosplay - yeah I think an outright ban is appropriate given the circumstances. There are other countries that need to be watched closely as well.

Who is the decision maker of this subject regarding Italy ???. The whole of italy is in lock-down, that means the very careful italians from the president to every Italian citizen is aware of the transporting of the corona virus can cause. Lombardia, Veneto, Emilia is under red zone and to-day 10/3/2020 the whole of Italy is under lock-down. What is the decision maker thinking ???, His or her personal decisions regarding like or dislike again ???.Personal feelings regarding this case is not valid. All of Italy must be treated the same. I love Italy but I sure hate to hear or see that it is an Italian that caused another spread of the corona virus. May I know if the decision maker knows what he or she is doing ???. By the way, san marino is a republic, it is not incuded in the country of Italy. Pls get yr facts correct.

Boom. So Italy has done it.
This is what I'm very much afraid of.... I do not know Italy's policy but I hope other countries are planning hard on social welfare including independent/freelance workers as well as giving good guideline/advice in advance to businesses and organisations.
It's due time for world leaders to get together to sort out this mess we will have to live with, internationally.

@Haaa_Nemui thanks for clearing that up. As I myself would’ve joined in, saying that all of Italy should be banned, considering. Now that we know that all of Italy is in lockdown, I would be surprised that if a blanket ban on travel from Italy would be implemented. If not immediately then in the next few days or so.

Planning to ban? Abe had no qualms in banning Korea on the spot at dinner with two nippon kaigi members. But for Italy, you need a task force meeting three days later? Further, the official justification by j gov for its action was that cases in Korea were approaching ten thousand. Italy has how many? Proof that there’s no logic to this communist dictator.

Mamma Mia! Get a move on!
(get well soon Italy!)

Kind of seems redundant now that the whole of Italy is locked down and nobody could come here even if they wanted to.
smithinjapan
Makes sense. Just hope there are no complaints when entry from Japan becomes banned.
Ken
Italy is a G7 member state. Can't just ban it so easily.Have to tread carefully on the measures. That underlines why some of these decisions are so political.
Haaa Nemui
The total Italian lockdown began a few hours ago. This measure in Japan was announced yesterday. Now that things have changed, I'm sure the decision will be reviewed. As for Korea and China, new case numbers might be rapidly falling but they are still facing major problems. You can hate on Japan all you want but at least admit those truths.
Samit Basu
LOL, the whole of Italy is under a total lock-down and Abe wants to ban just Northern Italy?
And Abe banned China and Korea whose new case numbers are rapidly falling?
Tora
@ah_so
For now.
Tora
Yep, entire country locked down now. Things move so quickly. Why not just announce a travel ban for all of Italy already? It's just like originally just banning Wuhan. Pointless. And toothless.
And it's not only the Abe government. Many other governments are similarly inept.
To think that people actually elect these people.

We are seeing "turning the table" phenomena or ironic situations. Earlier in Europe xenophobic incidents targeting East Asians were reported amid the virus crisis. Before own homeland outbreak, South Korean officials and media were boasting the country's readiness, to gain the upper hand by referring to Japan's "failure" in handling of crisis on the cruiser. President Trump is now bragging himself on the virus response... I am just wondering what will become of it. At least stock markets first reacted....
But of course, the table can always turn back again; we better stay alert and smart.
Ah_so
They're still allowing people to leave the country, just not travel within it.
Ah_so
The Italian government has put in nationwide restrictions. This includes restrictions on public gatherings and travel. To impose the same restrictions on anyone travelling from Italy seems sensible.
Luca
I'm from Italy and i'm okay with this ban for now. I should have been in Tokyo in April for school, but i'm not angry i know this is a serious problem.
Graham DeShazo
This would seem superfluous as the ENTIRE COUNTRY just went into lockdown.
zatoizugoodo
Agreed rgcivilian1. Japan "eyes" this and "eyes" that. Stop eyeing and do something.
rgcivilian1
What eyes to bat, just do it.
Haaa Nemui
Italy has just gone into total lockdown across the entire country.

Yes, let's give them paper to sign! As we usually do! It doesn't matter if they lie or not but paper state they didn't!
