...Masking only makes you “feel” like you are doing something.

Bravo! And those masks hanging on the chin are very useful. LOL

so you are an exception. Many travel for business but often unnecessary these days. I guess you also had a negative covid test.

Travel for what I do is necessary.

"Third, I am not encountering non-household members in poorly ventilated areas and having conversations in excess of 15 minutes at any time during the week."

What does that even mean?

Not having conversations lasting 15 minutes or so with people who don't live with me, and not putting myself in any place that is not well ventilated.

So, zipping into a conbini or supermarket but not even engaging in conversation beyond, Give me a large plastic bag please.

You posted about people staying indoors and closed borders but that does not apply to you then?

No. First, travel is a job requirement. Second, I'm wearing an N95 mask, and Third, I am not encountering non-household members in poorly ventilated areas and having conversations in excess of 15 minutes at any time during the week.

So, I can ride and fly domestically and internationally and feel safe.

16,000+ infections in Tokyo today---hope they stay off my plane!

On shinkansen now--everyone masked up.

Masking helps reduce the amount of airborne particles going OUT of your mouth. It's almost three years and people still don't understand the point of masking. Republicans.

As was pointed out by the comedian in the link provided in this thread, masks may be quite effective if it is N95 masks ( very uncomfortable) being worn by everyone correctly at all times in public but they are not so effective when it is cloth masks ( almost no protection) or masks worn incorrectly ( nose out) or not at all ( in busy restaurants etc). Plus particularly in summer they get mightly disgustingly pretty dirty they are probably a health hazard to wear. How often do you see these things? All the time I am sure. . No wonder it has been three years and wearing masks has not stopped the virus at all and in fact case numbers are just getting bigger.

Masking has no effect on the spreading of the corona virus. Most people are using cloth masks already proven to be useless. Masking only makes you “feel” like you are doing something.

What is the point of a travel subsidy program? Those things are a pain in the Butt to fill out and you can find cheaper deals on Expedia and others online anyway.

Surely we are over this nonsense by now.

I never thought that I would believe that progressive comedian like Jimmy Dore would put out real evidence and truth. Jimmy exposes most of the lies .

Your statements grossly contradict themselves as do the policies of the LDP.

Jimmy is a progressive and tells the truth.

Several (many?) prefectures still have accommodation discounts for locals, so you can still get a cheap break if you want one and have the money.

Good pointing it out article made a mention but didn't elaborate much

The government will continue its financial support for the area-limited subsidies through the end of August.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

The demand is there. It doesn't need to be artifically stimulated w/ taxpayer funds.

I realize this is a different argument from public health, but just asking "Why are we doing this if domestic travel is bouncing back?"

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

whilst they keeping planning this Go-To means They have have no intention of open the border soon or ever.

Several (many?) prefectures still have accommodation discounts for locals, so you can still get a cheap break if you want one and have the money. GoTo differs in that its a national campaign that gets folks crossing between prefectures, which isn't actually restricted but should possibly/probably not be actively encouraged with subsidies when there's a disease going around and most destinations are full of old people most at risk. Noone is stopping you going, you just aren't getting taxpayer cash for doing it.

fwiw, we don't have the money and our kids are busy most weekends anyway.

Hahahaha

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Guess all the xenophobia and border closings were for nothing, unless someone is suggesting the resurgence is due to letting foreigners in again. And the government should just give up on the GoTo nonsense once and for all. Failure three or four times in a row (or it leading to disaster later) ought to be enough of a hint.

My partner can only get a short holiday and we don’t have money, so we were so excited about this as we pay a lot of tax.

sorry am i missing something, if you pay a lot of tax that would insinuate youre a high wage earner, as the tax rate increases as your income rises?

Not a conspiracy theorist in any way but I think there is something to the notion that governments are using Covid to control people. And would also say the media has a vested interest in keeping this going as long as possible because every time they come out with a story of the latest super sub variant that is going to kill all of us the clicks (and profits) go up.

In response to the surging cases, the government now plans to postpone the launch of a nationwide travel subsidy program for Japan residents that it had envisioned for the first half of July

It is already July 13th. It wasn't launched before this current spike. What is the excuse for not launching it before it was necessary to plan the delay in postponing it?

Japanese bureacracy at its lightning speed bast.

and the borders will remain shut. A silver lining in the clouds.

Currently, Japan’s 7-day average is nearly the same as the U.S. 7-day average per capita. Makes one wonder about the effectiveness of the partial masking we see in Japan — e.g., masked when driving alone or walking in the park, but unmasked when sitting closely with acquaintances in a crowded restaurant.

Most people wear masks in their cars because its just habit. But you are right they should not eat in crowded restaurant, this is why a lot of restaurants and bars in Japan went bankrupt, because Japanese avoided restaurants and bars.

-7 ( +3 / -10 )

I wish the media would stop fuelling this madness. I will never forget...

5 ( +9 / -4 )

It just goes to show the closed borders did absolutely nothing but bankrupt a lot of small businesses dependent on the tourist trade ....

Thank you John Coffey for the link to Jimmy Dore. This should be compulsory viewing for everyone. What he says about masks and other things , is so applicable to Japan. No wonder the government has to pull the domestic travel plan. because of the new Omicron wave increase in cases.

So now we know all the good that was done by closing borders to foreign visitors.

Absolutely nothing.

And now we know the damage that was done by closing borders to foreign visitors.

Astronomical.

12 ( +17 / -5 )

Asiaman7 you have hit the nail on the head. This is what puzzles me do the the people driving in their car alone and walking alone in the park feel they earned extra safety points against COVID for wearing their mask so that they can then go into the crowded restaurants and remove their masks. Of course putting their mask back on when they get back in their car alone to drive away! The complete and utter non understanding of how COVID is spread by such people is astounding.

Still using the PCR test?

During the last weeks I had to do 4 PCR tests, because currently almost every week one of my coworkers got Covid.

It is our company rule to get a PCR test, if you got in close contact.

2 tests were at a hospital, 2 tests at a testing station.

It took maximum 30 minutes and testing was finished.

Because there was absolutely nobody who wants to get tested.

Staff told me that it is very boring every day.

So I am wondering were these 12000 new cases in Tokyo got tested positiv and why they took a test?

Same situation like me or showing some symptoms, or what?

But always going to test after I had working contact with someone who has Covid is very troublesome.

How it must gnaw at the LDP/Japan Inc. rentiers to have to delay their feeding at the Japanese worker's public treasury.

Giving way to biology and science is tough for predatory capitalism.

This is sad news about the delay in the travel subsidy program. My partner can only get a short holiday and we don’t have money, so we were so excited about this as we pay a lot of tax.

At this point I think we can say we are living in clown world!!

So these individuals who died, what exactly did they die from? Did they die of natural causes and tested positive for Covid so therefore marked as dying with Covid or did they actually die from Covid itself?

What where their co-morbidities?

Still using the PCR test?

Japan needs to stop the madness and open up its borders fully so money can start flowing back into the country.

Some of you continue to talk about masking as if that has ever worked? It’s been almost three years, New York City is bringing back its mask mandates.

I never thought that I would believe that progressive comedian like Jimmy Dore would put out real evidence and truth. Jimmy exposes most of the lies . Here is just one example from the mask mandates coming back to New York.

It doesn't like people care anyway though, a lot of flights and hotels are already fully booked

Good. That shows that this subsidy wasn't needed and hopefully, it won't be brought back when the case count eventually decreases.

is it possible that to keep the narrative going, common colds, common flu, cough, fever, etc are all lump together as CoVid19 cases.
