Great. The kids can buy an onegiri and a randoseru.
Good
Monthly so they can pay for juku

Copying the US, each qualified child got 300 dollars a month, and 250 for a child over 5

All of my banks, overseas and Japanese, require that I report to them my My Number number.
My online pension account offers me to sign in using my My Number number, but when I try, it tells me my browser is not supported. It's Chrome, the world's most popular browser.
TrevorPeace
Nothing like buying sympathetic support with the people's money. Hell, it's free! Take it! Spend, spend, spend! What a totally disgusting idea.
Mr Kipling
More tax payer money wasted. If you can't afford to have kids then please don't have them and expect others to have to pay for their upbringing.

Nice, so that's another 160,000円 for us to add to the 300,000円 from Abe that's still sitting in my bank nicely tucked away until the borders are open and I can go overseas to spend. Save your money people, especially in uncertain times.
TokyoJoe
And if they are very lucky they will end up as somebody's Kohai at dentsu working 10 hours per day ( depending on the boss leaving time) and earning 200万円 per year. Certainly worth sacrificing a fun childhood for.
dbsaiya
Very nice of them to make the payouts to the lowest percentage of the population, who already receive many govt subsidies. They miss the university students who are not in this category and who are not in the labor force and can't receive unemployment benefits. As usual, these clowns are divorced from reality.
vic.M
It's not the children that the money should go to. It should be for every house hold which children are a part of.
Lindsay
A one-off payment of ¥100,000 is not going to do much to compensate families for months of financial hardship due to pandemic closures and restrictions. It’s not even a month’s rent. In most cases I suspect it will be snapped up by city halls to pay back taxes.
Fighto!
19 year olds are also children. They should get the cash handout also.
Aly Rustom
in Canada, I believe each household gets something like 2000 canadian dollars a month...
exactly!
as dbsaiya said it perfectly..

In other words, paying people for them to get the card.
This adds to the cost of creating the card system in the first place. Make it mandatory.

Invest the sum in there education.

So thank you for giving me my tax paying money. Now my kids can buy their Nintendo Switch they wanted for Christmas. And as for the 30,000 yen, wow, a lot of pocket money (sarcasm). Didn't the government learn from the Koizumi Administration that most people saved their money instead of spent it? I'm sure more of the same here.
El Rata
Cool! Beer money.

If you need to go to the tax office even if you don’t pay taxes but are requested to file anyway, you need the MyNumber number. That part works fine, but electronically signing your name if you have a middle name more than likely will glitch the system. This katakana name stuff has to go.
Yubaru
So, you are saying you are under 18 years old, and you owe the city office over 100,000 in back taxes?
Lol....yeah right! Oh right, going to take the money from your kid and use it for yourself. I wonder, do you take their New Year's money too?
Heck of a Dad!
kohakuebisu
We've got three kids, so 3x100 plus 5x30 equals 450,000. My income is down by just over half in 2021, and this will definitely help. Hopefully the pandemic and my drop in income are both temporary and this can be a one-off. With the mortgage, we'll spend 4.5 million a year, so this is like getting a VAT refund.
For those who don't know, child benefit in Japan is a similar level to the UK, but is not means tested like the UK does. In Japan, you only get it up to JHS, so we now get paid for two, which is 25,000 a month. In some rich countries, like Denmark and Germany, its double, 200 euros (26,000 yen) a month per child.
MarkX
Two quick points! First make the Y100,000 in shopping coupons or some other device that makes people spend it and help the economy. Last time when Abe handed out the same amount there is facts to show a majority of people just put it right into the bank doing nothing to help.
As for the my number card, to get the points, there is a hitch. When I signed up to get my actual card, they were offering Y5000 in points, but it was only while using Emoney like Pay Pay and I had to "charge my card" with Y10,000 to get Y2500. So it forced me to use the Emoney app to get the points. I think they will do the same with the Y30,000 yen this time.
Wolfpack
Why give everyone ten times as much? It’s just money.
Speed
Stoked! Got two so glad to get a bit of money for the brats. Any little bit helps. I'm not complaining.
As for getting the card version of My #, I'll do it. Doesn't mean I'll actually use it. Getting 30,000 yen x4 to put the cards in a drawer is fine by me.
John Delaney
So basically they're trying to bribe people to get the My Number cards... government everywhere are doing this, in preparation for rolling out Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs) everywhere, that's all this is about. I guess as long as they don't turn it into a vax passport, it's still better than what the evil countries in the West are doing, so silver lining I suppose...
ReasonandWisdomNippon
Japan trying to help families and young people. If you want to complain USA did it too.
ETHAN1001
Great idea. Put it in the bank of dividend stock and then use it to pay for the future rise in consumption tax from 10% to 12% or 15%! The government want to give you money to ease the pain of future consumption tax hikes rather than corporation tax hikes! They know the birth rate is declining so they will give it to the smallest demographic group. Don't forget the added inflation!

Seems like you’re the one who needs money invested in your own education.

May I take a moment to point out that it is our money that governments are handing out as a gift from them? It all comes from borrowing more, paid for by tax revenue. They will just increase your taxes fees to cover it. You will end up paying more for it than you received.
qazwsx
The ¥30,000 will be in points to stimulate spending, but the ¥100,000 will be cash. Should all be in points if they want to stimulate the economy, otherwise the money will be unspent by some who don’t really need it
Whereisthebeer?
Good job LDP. The money will help Japanese families. Well done LDP!
Mark
30,000 in point??? can't pay my taxes with points !! can I??
Alex Winter
More tax payer money wasted. If you can't afford to have kids then please don't have them and expect others to have to pay for their upbringing.
Then please don't get old and expect MY children to pay for YOUR pension!

They are considering it ?
Wouldn't get too excited just yet.
Hasn't actually happened yet.
"If" all goes smoothly !

Instead of bribing people to get this useless My Number card, the guvmint should try explaining what advantages it brings/why it’s necessary.
Everyone has already been issued a My Number number - why the extra push for the card?
It will make public services more convenient, they say; can’t say I’ve had that much problem with public services, or even that much need for them. Once in a blue moon, maybe.
It can be used as ID, or as a national insurance card, they say; people already have various forms of ID, and an insurance card. Don’t need another card to clog up the wallet.
We’ll pay you to get one, they say; if there’s no such thing as a free lunch, being paid to eat lunch should set off alarm bells.
They can’t explain why we should have it, but they desperately want us to have it. The more they try to persuade, the less inclined I am to get the darn card. Et dona ferentes ?
They could also try explaining why kids need cash injections while the general population, including those who have lost jobs, lost businesses or had their income cut, get nothing. Yes there was the million yen injection last year, which did little to help the eateries that were forced to close or reduce capacity.
Eustace
Yep, that 200,000 yen will just go straight into stock investments, as I have no need for the cash

Whatever tax money I pay comes back . But not enough

My family lives in the US, but our kid has a Japanese passport.
Can we snag the ¥10,000?

How about me? I need another 100,000 Yen please !

Its because the mynumber card has a microchip in it

Isn't it more accurate to say "Gov't considers ¥100,000 cash handout for parents with children aged 18 or younger"?
blue in green
Government provides bupkis, the tax payers do.
If government is feeling particularly magnanimous, cut taxes, and let the people decide how to spend (or save) their own money.
Antiquesaving
Why? I really mean why?
People chose to have children that is their problem.
My children are adults, still at home after graduation from university during the pandemic, over 18.
I paid everything, I am still paying but no one gave or is giving me ¥ 100,000 for having had children and still paying for them!
My brother in law chose not to have children so now his taxes go to pay someone else because they had kids!
No, stop this stuff, you want children then pay your own way.
Moskollo
Why not include low paid, part time and dispatch workers? Better that than printing more money..

Actually Cleo, no people don't actually have plenty of ID.
As a foreigner you have photo ID you must cary all the time.
But unless a Japanese person drives, or has a passport they have no other government issued ID.
You do not live in the big cities.
Neither of my children have a driver's license and don't see the need to get one as public transport is everything they need.
So at this point if they are asked to provide a photo ID they have 2 choices their Japanese passport or my number card, which one do you think is more practical to Cary with them?
We are now the 21th century, ID theft, fraud etc... Is a major problem so more secure and less forgeable ID is now required, I have all the needed tools and equipment to make a near perfect fake national healthcare card but I could never do an IC chip card.
Mr Kipling
Marcelito....
I am glad Japan spends less of my money on other people's kids. I would prefer it was zero. This does't mean that I support the even bigger waste on defense, concreting the countryside and other pointless projects.

Legal age: 20. Give eighteen-year-olds money but not those who are nineteen. With otoshidama, this will be a nice little windfall for the younguns.

Better our kids than embezzling politicians.

Antiquesaving, you make a much better argument for the card than the government ever did.!

Do they get food stamp in Japan, in America ,people got thousand of dollars in food stipend on their EBT card, even Trump supporters Google USDA EBT
ReasonandWisdomNippon
This will have multiple benefits on families and the country as a whole.
It's a good way to make the younger generation feel included as well. Might motivate more young people to vote or participate in government positions as adults.
Jim
Sim people want to have kids and start a family but through medical reasons or other factors can’t! This is discrimination against them! Why don’t they just make the ¥100,000 across the board for all citizens and at the same time provide extra 300,000¥ for people who are desperately in need! Don’t give me the rational that if it’s across the board then people won’t use it and it will go into the saving because the same can be said about the plan to distribute it only to children!
Jim
Typo above … sim- some
Strangerland
Yes, how dare they not give money to raise children, to people not raising children. Have you ever heard something so ridiculous?!?!
Chibita
Can't believe how stupid the Japanese Government is, They want to spur the economy and this is their answer..... Most of the Parents that get this money for their kids will just put it into a savings account for them to use many years later.
Government money (if they have funds to give away...) should go to single mothers, people who lost their jobs due to the Pandemic, part-time workers whose hours were cut People in the service, Travel industries etc.
They need to use funds to save the small business owners in the small tourist towns or the small business owners in the strip malls (商店街) throughout Japan.
If this ¥¥¥ were to be sent to my child, I know it will just go into his savings account for the future & won't make a difference.
The roll out for the My number cards was such a joke, and continues to be. Typical Japanese style....
just pick a deadline and get on with it, LIKE every other country in the world.
Mr Kipling
Alex Winter...
Don't worry, I have taken care of my finances so YOUR children can keep THEIR money. I'm not in the Japanese pension, not that its worth having anyway.
It would be nice if others did the same.
Sven Asai
That’s an amount you still can’t die but also still can’t live with.
Tom San
Lame idea, since the kids won't be getting the handout.
therougou
If they want everyone to get the cards they should make them easier to get. I had to go to the city office and type in 3 passwords of which only 1 I will ever use. Most elderly people probably won't know how to use them at all. Just send the card and make the password part optional.
The card was useful in getting copies of some documents at the conbini but I still couldn't get the family register because as a gaijin I'm not on it! I had no idea bout the points and don't know anyone that does.
Nibek32
My 9 year old is going to blow it all on gachapon, manga and snacks from the konbini.

How generous of the Government! But stop, where does this money come from, could it be Taxpayer’s money? It seams there are two Governments, a good one that generously throws money away and a bad one that collects money form the population and accumulates ridiculous high debt and those governments have nothing to do with each other. As least that seems to be the general public’s impression, considering the result of the recent election.
Strangerland
How dare the government give taxpayer money back to the taxpayers, right?! I mean, how ridiculous, right?!
...right?
