Transparency is always good. Odd they didn't publicize at first that the NoKo vessel swerved into the JCG vessel.

There you go, Japan right as usual.

What say you North Korean supporters?

12 ( +19 / -7 )

What a surprise. The Japanese Coast Guard doesn't ram fishing boats. Who would've guessed... (end sarcasm)

What say you North Korean supporters?

I'm betting they will be unusually silent. I'm looking forward to the attempts to spin this in their favor though.

15 ( +18 / -3 )

There you go, Japan right as usual.

What a surprise you think Japan is always correct.

What say you North Korean supporters?

What North Korean supporters?

-1 ( +8 / -9 )

modern Japan bullying an old DPRK fishing vessel looking for food, real manly

-21 ( +2 / -23 )

Saw the video. Not taking sides but I did notice that the Japanese ship was continuously spraying the bridge windows which could have restricted visibility. But then again, why turn towards the spray? I would have turned away from it.

7 ( +11 / -4 )

What North Korean supporters?

Couldn't have timed this better myself.

Yeah, who cares if they were trespassing and stealing. No big deal right? I mean, you wouldn't mind if someone broke into your home and took things that weren't theirs... right...?

16 ( +17 / -1 )

No question the North Korean vessel swerved to the left, hit the Japanese ship and subsequently sank. It was a deliberate and desperate move on the part of the NK's. The last command by the patrol ship captain was "hard port and then followed by stop engine" .Clearly the patrol ship was turning left away from the fishing boat when the collision occurred but should not have stopped the engine during an emergency maneuver. The instant the NK's fishing boat turned left, there was a couple of minute window of opportunity for the captain to have ordered "full astern" and then "midship rudder" subsequently to lessen the impact of the collision. Still, this happened in high seas and you can not halt a several thousand tonne ship to a screeching stop that instant. The NK's learned their lesson in a very obvious way. Their heads and not their ship is harder the the hull of the Japanese patrol ship.

10 ( +10 / -0 )

The two ships were traveling in parallel, but the North Korean vessel swerved to the left, hit the Japanese ship and subsequently sank.

Flashbacks to the Ady Gil.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

Couldn't have timed this better myself.

Okay, but it doesn't answer my question.

-6 ( +2 / -8 )

Somebody suggested last time in the other forum that Japan use the water gun to sink the boat. What an absurd thing I have read. Now you "Know The Rest Of The Story"

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Say what they may, it's unconscionable at whatever level to imperil the lives of 60 people for some fish. An over 4 hr video edited to 13 min by the aggressors doesn't convince one of their innocence. I repeat, they wouldn't dare do that were the boat Russian or Chinese. We know the NK boat was sunk, exactly in whose waters ? We only have the perpetrators mouth to go by.

-14 ( +1 / -15 )

N Korean fishermen would be told that their boats must be self torpedo against Japan Coast Guard ships.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

so the NK ship swerved left wtf, scuttled their sinking shitbox, got rescued in floaties, picked up by another one of their NK rusty hulks, and then just cut off the emergency tents discarded floating like trash to pollute Japan's waters (do the JCG go and pick up the tents afterwards?). AND THEN they demand compensation for the sunk ship. the NERVE!

9 ( +10 / -1 )

No doubt NK is poor, I hate the conditions that make people poor, but why would a rich First world country like Japan be threatened by a fishermen's boat to want to kill them? Is Japan starving or just soulless? poaching of fish by foreigners happens all over, all the time! First time I see barbarity in such from a civilised country. Arrest, impound confiscate would still be good deterrence.

-14 ( +1 / -15 )

I repeat, they wouldn't dare do that were the boat Russian or Chinese.

Nor Russians or Chinese deliberately ram their ship on other ship either. Just like a car opening its door abruptly when you know another car is coming from the side. Or jump from the platform of a train station when a train is coming and you expect the vehicles stop in the blink of an eye.

Watch the video again and turn on the volume. The Japanese patrol ship took all the evasive action prior to the collision.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

I commend all efforts done to avoid a genuine collision, but has it occurred to people that they could , themselves, have come too close to the NK boat to up the chances of contact? They were spraying water cannons too.

Well done. This is why Japan is a first world nation and the Koreans and the Chinese are a third world peoples.

I bet the people getting government subsidies ( seikatsu hougo) in this first world nation( Japan) would be more than the population of NK. Though I'll check to cconfirm.

-10 ( +1 / -11 )

I commend all efforts done to avoid a genuine collision, but has it occurred to people that they could , themselves, have come too close to the NK boat to up the chances of contact? They were spraying water cannons too.

What's the point of using a water cannon if you are too far from the target. Does the Japanese patrol ship rather use a water cannon than firing a warning shot at the hull of the fishing boat as the Russians and Chinese usually do to ward off intruders?

9 ( +10 / -1 )

I stand corrected;

Does the Japanese patrol ship rather fire a warning shot at the hull of the fishing boat as the Russians and Chinese usually do to ward off intruders or use a water cannon?

4 ( +5 / -1 )

the video clearly shows that the Japanese boat can use water gun and objectively stronger, faster than the poor north Korean boat.

So Japanese officials want we believe that North Korean did a kamikaze attack?

Animal can eat but not north Koreans? clear provocation.

-12 ( +2 / -14 )

Nobody is forbidding NK's to eat and to fish either, as long as they are fishing inside their country or at international waters. How is one country protecting its own resources against intruders called provocation. Firing a missiles towards another country is more of a provocation to me.

13 ( +14 / -1 )

I looked at the video, but don't understand why the Japanese ship is using the water canon.

Because Japan Coast Guard can't open fire. Japan just gets N Korean fishermen out of Japan's EEZ by water canon. Thousands of boats are always poaching there.

10 ( +10 / -0 )

Fishing in the ocean most likely on orders from their superiors cannot the equated to breaking onto ones home and stealing food; however, if I were prosperous like the 3rd most prosperous nation in the world and someone did sail into ocean I call 'mine,' a ridiculous concept if I ever heard one, to get something to eat, yeah I might be a little upset but would let them fish so they didn't starve or get punished by their sadistic superiors. I wish they'd have asked first. I'd help them learn how to find food on the own in the future. As a far as trespassing is concerned I gather you would also have to condemn the USA for not only trespassing but robbing resources murdering legally elected officials and destroying entire societies that didn't play ball the way the USA did. here's a partial list of those crimes

I'm just curious. They said the survivors were picked by another N.Korean boat . Did the JCG call this NK ship ? Was it in the vicinity? If so, wasn't it also encroaching? Why didn't they proffer the same treatment ( spray, chase or sink it ?) . Is it just possible that NKoreans, for whatever reason don't know/ recognize Japan's claim to these waters? Since , JT quoted somewhere that many NK and Chinese ships fish here.

What's the point of using a water cannon if you are too far from the target.

insinuating the JCG came perhaps too close to the decrepit NK boat to initiate the assault.

I look forward to Japan at the very least pay for the boat. I know this issue is going to disappear from the public but privately, Japan WILL do what is right.

Show the GPS line they took, this video proves nothing.

As seen on the video, the survivors were pulled by a small enforcement system boat to a safe distance. As to your other questions, the answer is maybe yes to all of the above. To my understanding, a sinking ship sends a distress call to other ships for help. Since NK's ship is in the vicinity, they would be the first one to come. Do you expect the Japanese patrol ship spray water cannons to the rescue ship too? There are hundreds or maybe thousands of boats coming from across SE Asia not to mention the NK's and the Chinese, before they grabbed the whole south china sea, each year and they were all doused with water cannons to disperse.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

NK should have a big roasted Pork Jung Un n their country will b back on prosperity as without home all sanctions will b removed n NK can prosper economically

1 ( +2 / -1 )

If you listen to the recorded dialog at the beginning of the clip you can hear the Japanese crew running down a check list. Then they say, "NK ship has not responded to any of our warnings. Permission to fire the water cannon? Yes, permission granted..."

Japan regularly uses mega sound and water cannon to chase boats from the EEZ. They do not regularly ram anyone. You can hear the alarm in their voices when the Japanese bridge crew realize that the NK captain has turned his ship onto a collision course.

What puzzles me is that the NK boat, while emitting plenty of diesel smoke does not seem to be going full speed. Were they heavy-laden, were they too relaxed about things, did they have engine problems, or were they trying to save fuel, I wonder?

3 ( +4 / -1 )

no proof that north Koreans were fishing in illegal territory. nashi!

I did not see any atomic missiles hidden in the korean ship either.

-10 ( +1 / -11 )

What puzzles me is that the NK boat, while emitting plenty of diesel smoke does not seem to be going full speed. Were they heavy-laden, were they too relaxed about things, did they have engine problems, or were they trying to save fuel, I wonder?

Definitely not an engine trouble because they managed to ram Japanese patrol ship with such a force that they sunk.

Heavy laden maybe of caught fish and squids, may have thought that if caught red-handed, the cargoes will be confiscated and used as evidence against them and be detained. Or holding an illegal contraband like drugs and on their way to a rendezvous.

As for the plenty of black smoke from the funnel, they can manufacture engines for the rockets but not for ships. They must have dismantled 2 engines from an old Chinese tanks used during the Korean war and assembled it into that ship.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

Now I see the supporters of the North Koreans.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

Yes, Sceptical, I had also considered that maybe they had drugs on board. Interestingly, even the South Korean press sees this as the DPRK boat ramming the Japanese coast guard vessel.

Quote: "North Korea on Saturday demanded compensation from Japan for a fishing trawler that capsized when it rammed a Japanese patrol ship on the East Sea on Oct. 7."

http://english.chosun.com/site/data/html_dir/2019/10/14/2019101401110.html

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Now I see the supporters of the North Koreans.

Told ya ;-)

The mental gymnastics required to paint the Japan Coast Guard as the bad guys in this situation is astonishing. The video clearly shows the NK ship ramming the Japanese one, yet they still can’t accept it.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

I still think firing water canons is rather extreme. Standard procedure as agreed to by the UN conventions of EEZ is to capture the ship and arrest the crew, not fire canons, live or water.

Thousands of N Korean fishermen come to the Yomatotai for poaching almost everyday. Standard procedure doesn't work for N Koreans. That's why Japanese govt decided Japan Coast Guards kick as many boats as possible out of there by lots of water canon. Chasing boats arresting crews would take a half day for a few boats. As a result many boats go back soon if they found JCG approaching.

But you have never blamed their sadistic superiors who made them starved and sent RIP to the sadistic superiors, have confessed you would do whatever to support Koreans( both South and especially NORTH) in this public forum. What kind of THE GUY you are not the issue but what kind of angle you have.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

Those supporters of POOR NK would not even refer to the fact their sadistic dictators are selling its fishing rights in its own EEZ for cash and made their citizen sail far beyond its EEZ. Well, not EEZ, as they have no idea about nor agree with so-called EEZ but demanding cash returns for allowing their rights in their EEZ at the same time. Ridiculous

4 ( +5 / -1 )

You cannot tell all of what is happening in the video....the Japanese ship appears not to move, which is exactly how it will appear whether they move or not as its on the ocean and the camera is on their ship. You cannot even detect the Japanese ship bobbing in the water for Pete's sake so you can't tell who hit who. It could have been mutual for all you can tell. There are some deleted scenes and the video skips ahead....we don't see them approaching the ship at all but you KNOW it was the Japanese that initially closed the distance before the incident. Also, I hear people talking but I don't see them talking. This video took days to release and was edited. I question it.

And I still don't see a map that pinpoints the location so I can judge who had the right to even be there.

As often happens I am not taking a side, but simply telling you I am sick of people so foolish to take sides without proper evidence.

-4 ( +3 / -7 )

So are many Japanese sick of just narratives backed up only by testimonies of so-called self-appointed victims

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Oh yeah.... lets be benevolent and let everyone fish in our waters...... that is total idiocy! You've got 1.4 Billion Chinese sitting just 150 kilometers across from you and you say.... "live and let live". No.... its protect what is yours so you can take care of your people. If Japan opened its waters to everybody.... there would be no fish in about 5 years.

@Norman GoodmanToday  08:40 pm JST

And I still don't see a map that pinpoints the location so I can judge who had the right to even be there.

According to the monitor on the Japanese patrol boat's satellite navigational system, their exact position prior to the collision was Latitude 40 degrees 09.710 minutes North, Longitude 155 degrees 07.654 minutes East. About 990 Km. or about 365 nautical miles East East North from Ewate Prefecture, heading 162.7 degrees (southward). They are not even in the Japan Seas. They are on the other side of Japan, in the Pacific Ocean. If this is not an evidence to you, I don't know what is. Maybe someone will suggest that this info was rigged but who would upload such a fake evidence on YouTube and getting away with it. Besides, the data is logged on the satellite system and the only way to get rid of it is to reset the entire system, but then you'll loose the all the history from port departure to the site of collision.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Are you saying they were east of Honshu?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

That is what the monitor of the satellite navigation system suggest. Check again the beginning of the video.

Once again, the position at the time of the incident was Latitude 40 degrees 09.710 minutes North, Longitude 155 degrees 07.654 minutes East.

You can use this navigational chart to pinpoint the exact position. http://www.satsig.net/maps/lat-long-finder.htm

"We released (the footage) in the public interest in order to inform people that we're conducting enforcement operations appropriately," agency official Takashi Koya said at a press conference."

where and when can we the general public see it?? any links to youtube ?

Longitude 155 degrees 07.654 minutes East.

Nope. 135 degrees 07.654 east longitude. In the Sea of Japan.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Funny when SK fired warning shots at Russian and Chinese incursion into their airspace, their supporters credited their fast reaction, but Japanese boats use a water gun and all of a sudden it's controversial? Get outta here pot...

@Norman GoodmanToday  08:40 pm JST

@nandakandamandaOct. 19  11:56 pm JST

Sorry for the misinfo

I double checked the video again today and realized my mistakes:

The position was Longitude 135 degrees 07.657 minutes East. instead of Longitude 155 degrees 07.654 minutes East. It is on the Japan Sea side about 180 nautical miles or 333 kilometers due West of Akita Prefecture and way inside the 200 nautical miles limit of EEZ of Japan.

Precise position, Latitude 40 degrees 09.702 minutes North, Longitude 135 degrees 07.657 minutes East. Gyro heading 163.3 degrees (southward), speed 8.3 knots.

You can use this navigational chart to pinpoint the exact position. http://www.satsig.net/maps/lat-long-finder.htm

I can see from that video that the Japanese ship attacked the North Korean ship with water cannon and fully obscured their ability to view anything. The NK ship turned left in an attempt to get under the water cannon spray so they could see and to make the Japanese ship also veer away. That the captain of the Japanese ship chose to take no action to avoid the collision shows a clear intent to ram and sink the NK ship. The video clearly shows this. Japan in the wrong here by purposely endangering life.

Attacking? with water shower? How lenient it is and Japan just don't get how to deal with those making light completely of yourselves. Learn something from how Koreans or Russians what and how to do it.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

@Norman Goodman

You cannot even detect the Japanese ship bobbing in the water for Pete's sake so you can't tell who hit who.

Yes. Yes you can. You might want to watch it a little more carefully if you can't see the NK boat veer left to strike the Coast Guard ship.

As often happens I am not taking a side,

By ignoring what is obviously happening in the video, it's pretty clear that you are.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I can see from that video that the Japanese ship attacked the North Korean ship with water cannon

"Attacking"? With a water cannon? They were told to leave and ignored official instructions. A water cannon is getting off lightly.

and fully obscured their ability to view anything. The NK ship turned left in an attempt to get under the water cannon spray so they could see

This is total nonsense. So they could see? Then why not move away from the water cannon?

and to make the Japanese ship also veer away.

Ah, here we go. Now it makes sense, so you're saying the North Korean ship was the one at fault.

That the captain of the Japanese ship chose to take no action to avoid the collision shows a clear intent to ram and sink the NK ship.

Wait, what?? First of all, what do you think the Japanese Coast Guard ship is, a sports car? They can't just turn on a dime when a small fishing vessel decides to ram them. They didn't 'choose to take no action', the didn't have time to react to the insane actions of the NK fishing boat!

The video clearly shows this. Japan in the wrong here by purposely endangering life.

There's those mental gymnastics I was talking about.
