Vaccines don’t stop transmission…. The minority don’t stop transmission either . The vaccines haven’t failed .. they’re designed to help minimize your chances of having a severe case …. The failures are on the minority who are anti everything as related to Covid. Those that have been and continue to whine about restrictions when here in Japan, we haven’t had any. I respect anyone and everyone’s opinion so long as they are stating patently false information and outright promoting reckless behaviors.

As soon as NZ and Australia tried to ease back their restrictions, their infection rates and related deaths skyrocketed, based on government statistics.

Are you suggesting that nations should lock their people and economies down, until there is literally zero covid?

Hhhhhh.........

Sweden had it right all along. But were demonized like so many others that had it right.

Why not? the vaccines have been working all this time, it would be unreasonable to expect "this time" to be different.

Then why are triple/quadruple vaxxed people getting COVID? Come on, this is getting old.

if the jgov is gonna impose anything… it needs to be a true and hard lockdown. A zero Covid strategy on steroids. Quite literally shut everything down. No more fake measures…

Absolutely. Japan is not having success with its strategy. It should follow other island countries like NZ and Australia, which had successful zero covid policy programs, based on China's model, which had the lowest number of infections and related deaths per population, in the world, as the statistics show.

As soon as NZ and Australia tried to ease back their restrictions, their infection rates and related deaths skyrocketed, based on government statistics.

If anyone has statistics showing the reverse, would love to see 'em!

The high transmissibility of Omicron and the failure of the vaccines to stop transmissions means lockdowns are useless. Most nations have realized this and stopped restrictions.

Why not? the vaccines have been working all this time, it would be unreasonable to expect "this time" to be different. As long as profection is offered, and the infection requires protection then vaccines are still useful.

NO.

I walk outside of my apartment, I go to my job, everyone is STILL wearing masks, sometimes two. Japan STILL had outrageous border controls in place making it difficult for me to visit my home country. Kishida is now signalling to us that they are going to put yet another State of Emergency into place, inevitably disrupting people's lives and income. The government is printing money so they can spend literally TRILLIONS of dollars on a vaccine more and more people are losing faith in. This is not a success story, it's objectively a failure.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

Where are this "China-authoritarianism-oppression" tags coming from?

Lockdowns are standard procedures in countries all over the world.

They are because they worked, time and again.

It's a proven method to contain the pandemic.

-6 ( +3 / -9 )

Mr McCarthy

Lockdowns are ineffective against Omicron and in fact almost any virus in the modern age of international travel. We are all gonna get it, now or later, no running away or hiding from it.

Luckily it’s so mild it doesn’t cause chaos, that’s why Japan does not have domestic restrictions in place and things are running like normal.

6 ( +9 / -3 )

Sweden got it right. Few restrictions, low mortality rate, and little social damage.

They can’t seriously or even jokingly consider anymore worthless SOE’S. I for one don’t see a resurgence right now . I see a solid plateau. There’s currently over 200,000 active cases. But hey …. Daijobu! Right ? All this whining about restrictions…. Pffft… if the jgov is gonna impose anything… it needs to be a true and hard lockdown. A zero Covid strategy on steroids. Quite literally shut everything down. No more fake measures… if they want to get serious about stopping the spread , then the Boes are not going to cut it . 28 months and counting and specific to Japan, we are nowhere near where we need to be . There’s still the minority or anti everything as related to Covid… So I say go all in the right way or fold . The PM has the power under article 25 of the Japanese Constitution to force people to keep their dangerous, reckless, and selfish behaviors at home for a few weeks . Already wasted over 2 years and the minority isn’t willingly gonna change .

I keep seeing reports of double-vaxxed and "boosted" (TRIPLE-vaxxed? Triple-jabbed? ) people testing positive. Many such cases.

Surely the fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth,.... jab will do the trick....

1 ( +8 / -7 )

Certainly couldn't be related to spring break....

5 ( +8 / -3 )

Vaccines does not prevent Covid.

I was reading this morning about an article about long term effects, some not related at all with the severity of symptoms. Increase in cardiovascular risks for exemple even for patients without Covid symptoms

JT Headline: Japan to lift COVID nonresident foreigner entry ban for 106 nations; tourists still barred.

As for any commentary (falsely) absolving 'foreigners' of responsibility for the spread of SARSCoV-2 - that comes with a rather simple caveat: the introduction of variants is via outside sources, mutations did not spontaneously occur in the domestic population. The mechanics require infected individuals carrying the variant to enter from abroad.

Further, a dependency on international tourism, instead of domestic is unsustainable and an incredible impingement on local & Japanese culture. It requires an infrastructure which shovels profit out of local and regional economies. Industrial tourism is one of he base causes for the current pandemic, now entering its third year. Indeed tourists should be barred from entry - foreign residents have been and are allowed to remain in place and permitted to travel internationally, troublesome as it may be.

One might be mindful and recall the overwhelming of healthcare resources and the dangers inherent in that scenario. A so-called return to 'normal' is a return to he conditions that created the current malaise.

Those who fail to get inoculated with the vaccine and consequent booster, who refuse to follow protocols, who decry such as tiresome or purport a false narrative to justify selfish and irrational behavior that borders on a minor mental illness need to be ostracized and called to heed.

-13 ( +2 / -15 )

So what do you make of the unvaccinated millions entering Europe

You keep repeating this. What’s your point?

-3 ( +4 / -7 )

Blame for foreigner that doing foreign travel? No, blame on hanami crowd!

difficult to blame the foreigner in japan when foreign tourist are banned,

saw all those Japanese having a picnic eating under the trees talking, funny didnt see many masks

One inconsiderate putz in my wife's office who came in sick

Worse is they think they are heroes for working while sick.

1 ( +6 / -5 )

Sounds like another booster promotion to me.

Dangle the threat of another quasi SOE to try to nudge others to comply again and sign into the medical subscription program.

Many people don't believe the injections are not working or effective enough to benefit their slight risks of catching Covid and any subsequent detriment (which they will catch anyway - injected or not).

They are certainly not stopping the spread. Or even reducing it in any negligible sense.

Once people truly know how much money has been wasted on this treatment, they will be pretty annoyed, dare I say, angry. Around 30% of the UKs NHS budget was paid to pharmaceutical companies over the past years.

That's your tax dollars going to private businesses.

Luckily for many politcions, they or their families will receive direct benefit from shareholdings, deals and future golden ticket jobs. Bravo.

1 ( +8 / -7 )

Anyone taking China as a good example please don't, Covid isn't going anywhere, what we can do is try to limit the amount of people that get it at the same time as not to strain the healthcare system, and at the same time try to build on our healthcare systems to prepare for the future (which japan has been very bad at). Other than that everyone will be in contact in covid at some point, even though most will never know they even had it. For these zero policy countries, what they are doing is just dragging out what is to come, unless they are planning to shut their countries down for ever.

3 ( +8 / -5 )

Blame for foreigner that doing foreign travel? No, blame on hanami crowd!

Why not? Have you forgotten that sponsored business travel is allowed? China/Japan flights are still happening as we type, full flights.

2 ( +6 / -4 )

For once I agree with Japan, be cautious, you don't know what your neighbour China has in store for you. My HK doctors friends are telling me it's very bad over there but they aren't allowed to talk to the media. All the mainland and HK government officials are vaccinated with western vax, but the rest of the population aren't. They are saying many cases are genetically traced back to Shenzen, but the mainland government is blaming HK instead saying transmission is from HK returnee or visiting HK business people.

It's all lies, the HK government requested border closure months before but mainland insisted it was all safe and allowed cases to transmit to HK. As you know arrivals into HK from other parts of the world is under very strict quarantine so cases can't be from elsewhere.

The lesson from HK (and Shenzen) is be very careful. The CCP doesn't know what moral and ethical is. The first case of covid in Australia was from a covid positive man from Wuhan sent to Australia by the CCP on a holiday when Wuhan was under strict lockdown (and the CCP got the WHO to lobby governments to keep borders open as well). Sick!

No one cares anymore and why should they? They have been saying the sky is falling for so long but when you walk outside it is still up there.

7 ( +12 / -5 )

I love the Japanese government

They really strategize everything so well!

1 ( +6 / -5 )

Oh great!

let’s completely open the borders from this week! And let’s have another lockdown 1 or 2 weeks later?

better yet let’s do a Go to Travel too!

Japan seeing signs of coronavirus resurgence, warns Kishida

Wait! Despite all the vaccines, masks, plastic barriers, etcetera. The virus is still 'rampant'. Wow it's evident that the measures are really working.

There is a resurgence in some parts.

I have had to shut my business in South Osaka till Saturday since yesterday because of all the positive cases.

there is a new variant out now, 'BA2'. It's hit the US as well and has caused a record number sick in the UK already. And to think, it's springtime in these countries - in the northern hemisphere.

-7 ( +1 / -8 )

Omg I don’t care anymore! My arm is still hurting from the booster I got yesterday. What else can anyone do? Let life and travel go back to normal. If people die that sucks for them but that’s a part of life: death.

Adult restraint is sometimes hard but this pandemic is not over even though many people are done taking precautions. I still wear a mask to shop and wipe everything with disinfectant wipes. One inconsiderate putz in my wife's office who came in sick passed it to her last winter. I and our little boy had it soon thereafter. Sigh. Vaccinated and boosted but still it was miserable, and the cough lasted for almost four months. Don't get complacent.

@ Painkiller, in China under the CCP bad information is often not reported. Honesty when things go bad is not rewarded. It is punished sometimes quite harshly. It is bad form to make the party look bad. I had an economics professor who was originally from China and "data" is sometimes manufactured out of thin air to make local officials look good to the central leadership in Beijing. Oh yes, the local economy is growing strongly even if it is not. Absent a free press and something like a public records act, there is no way for anyone to know if local party officials are lying or not and directly challenging them is a good way to get arrested for "Picking Quarrels and Provoking Trouble" or "Inciting Subversion of State Power". Both carry a five year sentence in prison and are used routinely to jail critics of the government or of the CCP (which are one in the same really). In China you don't have the gadflies who ask hard questions during meetings of elected bodies or the nosey reporters that one finds in democratic nations keeping the elected officials honest.

It’s up, no wait, it’s down. It’s up, no wait, it’s down. It’s up, no wait, it’s down. It’s up, no wait, it’s down. It’s up, no wait, it’s down. It’s up.

This is why Japan had more than 2x the number of infections as China did yesterday. China's zero covid policy has worked best in the world to limit infections and covid related deaths, according to the facts.

You have provided a link to https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/ that disproved this as false, not only China is not the best, it also depends on systematically hiding covid deaths as is happening in Shanghai and pretending Hong Kong is part of another country, both things that completely disqualify your "facts".

Japan has never had the best policy, because it makes social responsibility the main mechanisms to enforce measures and gives very little support, but at least it is much more transparent than the CCP and it does not boast of numbers while leaving the worst hit places out as if they were part of another country.

"Those same vaccines will really work this time, we promise!" wink wink

Why not? the vaccines have been working all this time, it would be unreasonable to expect "this time" to be different. As long as profection is offered, and the infection requires protection then vaccines are still useful.

Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said Thursday that there are "signs of a resurgence" in coronavirus infections in Japan, particularly among young people.

Naturally, because the Japanese are having too much social contact and are not avoiding crowded places.

This is why Japan had more than 2x the number of infections as China did yesterday. China's zero covid policy has worked best in the world to limit infections and covid related deaths, according to the facts.

Putting out the feelers early in preparation for a golden week quasi soe. I was told by a local bar owner that it is already decided, let's see.

If the prime minister is so out of touch with science and reality, cannot blame your average Taro for wearing a mask outside. How can it be that he does not understand after more than 2 years in?
