Yet foreigners who have obtained jobs, gotten student grants, etc, are still firmly blocked from entering the country to pursue their work/studies. And this regardless of vaccination and PCR status.

The blatant double standard shows how thinly veiled this xenophobia is.

What strengthened border control? The omicron type viruses (and all other ones too) have been let in already, so any kind of border control is now of no big use anymore.

Health minister Shigeyuki Goto said he does not believe the variant has become widespread across the country, “but I have no idea since we only test people at the borders”.

... but we plan to respond speedily by working with municipalities and experts by taking infection situations into account," the top government spokesman told a regular press conference.

"Respond speedily"!! Bahahaha!! Omg I needed a good laugh today. Cheers!

Gov't says it won't retighten virus restrictions despite Omicron spread

Yes! So glad to be in Japan, where sanity still rules and the authoritarians do not have the run of the country.

I suppose the J government looked at the available data and saw that while Omicron is extremely infectious, it is much less dangerous that previous variants. So let people get on with their lives!

Other nations have tried to open up and now face masses of sick people and are forced to consider bringing back some measures to restrict the uncheck spread of Omicron.

This is not over. Restrictions are not over. We all want normal to return but at what price are we willing to pay to get it? How many lives destroyed or lost are worth a return to normal for the masses? And what if the price is your mother, sister or daughter? Still willing to pay that price?

meh, alert me when I can go back to the states and return WITHOUT a 10 day or 2 week quarantine in Tokyo.

How many lives destroyed or lost are worth a return to normal for the masses?

As many as it takes.

Restrictions should not be necessary as long as people have learned from the last two years. Wear a mask, keep your distance where possible and keep your hands sanitized. Vaccinations will only keep you out of the ICU. They won’t stop you catching it. It is up to the people to keep this virus under control. It’s not up to the government.

They've never explained why they are wasting hospital beds for people with mild symptoms. Absolutely mad.

1 ( +7 / -6 )

I know Japan doesn't test, so we will never really know the full extent of cases.

That said, in many western countries even though the reports seem to show this variant isn't as severe, they are still saying hospitals are in danger of being overrun.

That isn't happening here, why?

I have to wonder if general health of the population has something to do with it.

How many lives destroyed or lost are worth a return to normal for the masses? And what if the price is your mother, sister or daughter? Still willing to pay that price?

I guess, that now that I have recently had a heart attack, coronary surgery, I am at high risk with regards to Covid.

Ok but then I was smart enough to get fully vaccinated.

No it will not stop me from catching it but it will in most cases stop me and others from getting seriously ill and dying.

So if your

your mother, sister or daughter,

etc... Where not responsible enough to get vaccinated, then it is now their problem,

If by some minut chance they have a condition that prevents getting vaccinated, then sadly they need to double down on precautions.

I am living daily but dues to my health conditions I am taking slightly more precautions.

We cannot ask the entire population to stop living because some refuse to be vaccinated, or someone has a rare condition.

Yes indeed, but we should all continue to do we we have done for the past year NEVER LET DOWN YOUR GAURDS, this monster will get you when you least expect it.

“That isn't happening here, why?” Coz people are not ill or ill enough to be hospitalized.
