The longer this stays in the news the higher the probability that the public prosecutor will get involved. The public outcry is getting louder. Heads are going to roll soon!

Gift scandal? Shouldn’t that be, graft scandal? Or, bribe scandal? These criminals have been accepting cash and all kinds of goodies to give favor for government contracts to private corporations. That is not receiving gifts. If I was to receive ¥2 million as a gift, I would have to declare it as income and pay tax on it. Not these jokers though. They are above the law.

Aren’t bribery and unreported taxable income criminal acts in Japan?

This kind of corruption has been rampant over all industries nationwide since FOREVER!!

Tax authorities have found, meanwhile, that from fiscal 2013 to 2018, orders placed by Osaka-based Kansai Electric with Yoshida Kaihatsu totaled some 6.47 billion yen, and that the construction firm paid around 300 million yen in commission to Moriyama.

Haha so the tax office has now dug a bit just so they cover their own corrupt butts! Typical, now they get to decide who is sacrificed on the alter of corruption so the rest can continue unabated, more to follow!

scandal over massive gifts

electricity fees from people and they are similar to a tax

1 million yen in cash and 400,000 yen in gift certificates

construction firm paid around 300 million yen in commission

two executives have said they have no plan to step down from their current posts,

not kept records of the money and gifts received.

IF the above does not call for a High Level Prosecutor unlike an appointed one like what TEPCO received, then what is the point as once again the mega rich get away with whatever they want and the entire system only works for everyone not part of the 1% mega rich in Japan.

Just curious, but why is there a gay rainbow flag at the left in the picture?

Industry minister Isshu Sugawara said at a press conference that other electric power and utility-related companies have conducted in-house probes to determine whether similar cases had occurred. Nine of the 12 companies which did the probes said they have found no such cases.

Ridiculous.

Does this so called minister take the general public for fools.

In-house invedtigation, my foot.

Telling a thief to investigate himself and expecting a truthful outcome.

What is the purpose of withholding the names of the companies?

I can bet that politicians and bereaucrats are also involved in the scandal and it is not limited to kanden but all the other power utilities.

There is no investigative journalism in this country so expect the scandal to die down without it being looked into deeply.

The company had not kept records of the money and gifts received.

Isn't concealment a crime and punishable by law?

zichi - A full investigation by the public prosector and those who have committed criminal acts charged.

Wouldn’t that be nice? It would also be appropriate. However, they all work fir the same boss (Nippon Kaigi). It’s just not gonna happen!

@Yubaru

Heads are going to roll soon!

LOL What country do you think this is?

Gift scandal? Does professional journalism actually exist? Well briberies by any other name smells just as corrupt.

The utility, which operates the nuclear complex in Takahama, has disclosed the officials had been given about 320 million yen worth of gifts since 2006 by Moriyama, who also served as an adviser to a Kansai Electric subsidiary for more than 30 years.

Why is the in-house investigation from 2006 and not way back.

I bet it went on from earlier years and the amount is way above the reported 320million yen.

Anything short of an investigation by outside investigators is an utter joke.

"Gift" is the culture of Japan. Toward the end of the year, executives houses become full of gifts sent from clients.

Chairman Makoto Yagi and President Shigeki Iwane will resign or have resigned from the posts of outside directors at other companies such as Nippon Life Insurance Co and department store operator H2O Retailing Corp.

Cross-share holding, outside directors. J-inc at its finest.

Incompetents holding receiving salaries from numerous companies for doing nothing as outside directors while the average taro and hanako toil for hours on meagre salary. How unfair, what will wake the sheepie up?

Just curious, but why is there a gay rainbow flag at the left in the picture?

Gays don’t have a monopoly on rainbows.

Aren’t bribery and unreported taxable income criminal acts in Japan?

Not if you're in bed with the Government.

What is a Gift-Scandal and how is it different from bribery?
