who have gone at least eight months since receiving their second dose, citing studies that show antibodies that protect against the disease decrease over time.

Absolutely.

Trust the science.

Fully vaccinated does not mean 2 shots, it means your constantly up to date with your boosters.

The next wave will be among those who only have a mere 2 shots.

Cool story, bro.

6 ( +17 / -11 )

For people with special vulnerabilities? of course, their protection may not be adequate after some time.

For everybody? that is not supported by science, antibodies drop but the protection against the dangerous complications not so much, which means they would be still protected even without needing boosters.

Even if you only consider Japanese interests those doses should be used first to vaccinate the people that have not yet received their priming vaccination, mostly in the developing world, after everybody have been vaccinated then you can booster anyone that wants it. Else you are just paving the way for a new variant to appear in some place where the vaccination is rare, and every new variant means a risk all previous immunity (by vaccines or infection) is rendered useless.

7 ( +19 / -12 )

Rex is right. U.S. FDA recommended the same thing, yet Biden is plowing ahead with boosters, too.

4 ( +12 / -8 )

I am sure the pharma companies are over the moon and promoting boosters till armageddon!

Natural immunity is the only true solution and the only partially effective vaccines have allowed countries like Japan to achieve this for a large portion of the population due to no lock downs and high rates of asymptomatic and mild illnesses.

You realise you are contradicting yourself, right? I mean read that sentence again. Also willfully omitting the hugely important factors of mask usage and guidelines followed by all but a very few.

When's the fourth?

7 ( +13 / -6 )

Fully-vaccinated? Nope. Here come the boosters...

12 ( +18 / -6 )

"When's the fourth?"

This will never end. It hasn't sunk in for many people yet

17 ( +24 / -7 )

Japan has been restoring social and economic activities to pre-pandemic levels...

If this means back to 2019 levels, it's probably going to be 2023 or 2024 by the time this happens.

Japan can't recover in isolation; it's a global drop, and the rest of the world has to recover too.

How many times do people need to be told, it will be like your yearly flu shot. Why the constant endless philosophizing?

0 ( +15 / -15 )

Got my third Pfizer shot 11 days ago. BTW, after the second and third shots, I got an asthma attack. If anyone else is subject to asthma attacks, remember to take your inhaler with you when you get vaccinated. I hate to think what would happen to my lungs if I actually got Covid.

6 ( +15 / -9 )

"How many times do people need to be told, it will be like your yearly flu shot."

Because unlike your annual flu shot - which by the way I've never taken - these jabs are being linked to vaccine passports. And unlike the flu shots, they come with severe side effects in some cases. Nor are flu shots mandated, as is the case with these jabs in many countries.

9 ( +21 / -12 )

Natural immunity is the only true solution

Only if by "solution" you mean having the problem you are trying to prevent. The purpose is to avoid the risks that come with natural immunity, something that up until now can be done with vaccination without boosters for most of the population. If your solution means having those risk, that means it is not a solution.

How many times do people need to be told, it will be like your yearly flu shot.

It does not matter how many times you repeat something without scientific basis, it remains just your personal speculation. The actual scientific evidence do not points towards this direction.

I am sure the pharma companies are over the moon and promoting boosters till armageddon!

Once the pandemic is somewhat controlled around the world there is no need to use any of the current vaccines as boosters, technology available to governments of third world countries is perfectly adequate to boost immunity against the virus for close to no economic investment.

-6 ( +10 / -16 )

Natural immunity is the only true solution

For about six months, then you have to get infected again.

-1 ( +11 / -12 )

Natural immunity is the only true solution

Natural immunity means you get the disease, develop antibodies and recover, then the antibodies stop you getting the disease again? Correct me if I’ve got it wrong.

If you’re young and healthy, no comorbidities etc etc, Covid is apparently no big deal. Some people don’t even notice they have it if they don’t get tested.

But there’s no guarantee that it will be no big deal; no one knows how it will affect them until they actually get infected. If you’re one of the unlucky ones, no amount of ‘natural immunity’ (which you don’t get until after you’ve been sick and recovered) is going to help.

I would like an explanation of what the anti-vaxxers mean when they recommend ‘natural immunity’. How do I get this immunity without first running the risk of being infected by a virus that might be no big deal, but that also might put me in the ICU or in the morgue, or leave me with long-term organ damage?

Seems a lot easier, safer and more sensible to me to just get the jab and get on with life.

-1 ( +13 / -14 )

I have been saying for over a year that these vaccinations will not end nor will this virus, get use to it!!!

Forget about natural immunity, it will never happen!

Forget about alternative cures advocated by chiropractors and QGOP, they are all dangerous and will put you in Hospital or worse!

-3 ( +9 / -12 )

"Forget about alternative cures advocated by chiropractors"

I was advised by my GP recently not to get a jab, but to wait for oral treatments to become available. I'm inclined to take his advice.

"but that also might put me in the ICU or in the morgue, or leave me with long-term organ damage?"

Might...but you also stand the risk of the vax doing the same or worse. Heart inflammation, loss of smell, myocarditis to name but a few.

-4 ( +13 / -17 )

Might...but you also stand the risk of the vax doing the same or worse. Heart inflammation, loss of smell, myocarditis to name but a few.

“but a few” is important because there are very few cases of these. Whereas millions dead from the virus is hard to ignore for any sensible or logical person.

-4 ( +9 / -13 )

So let me get this right, a GP told you not to get the vaccination and run the risk of getting covid even though Millions upon Millions have died from the virus?

1 ( +11 / -10 )

I would like an explanation of what the anti-vaxxers mean when they recommend ‘natural immunity’. How do I get this immunity without first running the risk of being infected by a virus that might be no big deal, but that also might put me in the ICU or in the morgue, or leave me with long-term organ damage?

The vast majority of young and healthy recover from Covid with no or little problems, and simple things can be done prior to infection as well as after infection to decrease the chances of complications.

I don’t think one should intentionally get infected just to get natural immunity, but if someone has already recovered from Covid, they have broad lasting immunity and do not need to get the vax, which comes with its own risks.

And regardless if someone gets the vax or not, they should do those simple things to optimize their immune system.

4 ( +11 / -7 )

I get it now! All those who refuse to get Vac, it because of their very weak immuned bodies. To make things easier for those. You know they are vaccinating over 12 years old and there has been on adverse medical condition against their immature bodies. If a 12 year old body can handle it, You don't need to be a intellectual to evaluate that a immature body would show adverse condition before a mature body. So you must be very unhealthy and have a very weak body less then a 12 year old to worry about the very low % of adversed side effects. I have to say sorry to those with this condition, I did not release that you have a inferior body compared to the majority.

-14 ( +3 / -17 )

That’s why some people, including me, made proposals to extinguish the viruses once and for all, when they still weren’t so widespread. But what happened instead? Most governments and people radically insisted to ‘live with the virus’ long term or forever and to spread it happily further and everywhere. Now, don’t cry like babies and show us how you can do that living with the coronavirus, with all those inefficient vaccines and their reboosting, LongCovid damages even in young people, generally organ and bloodline damages and of course an already statistically significant quite decreased live expectancy. Still not mentioning the costs and education or economic problems… If the viruses are the devils you built them a very comfortable hell, didn’t you?

-11 ( +5 / -16 )

never mind the third, how about anybody that wants the first can get it? I know of a lot of people still waiting to get an appointment.

-5 ( +6 / -11 )

Because unlike your annual flu shot - which by the way I've never taken - these jabs are being linked to vaccine passports. And unlike the flu shots, they come with severe side effects in some cases. Nor are flu shots mandated, as is the case with these jabs in many countries

So your problem is less to do with the vaccine itself, and more with the proposed systems being put in place that are associated with vaccine

-9 ( +2 / -11 )

but if someone has already recovered from Covid, they have broad lasting immunity and do not need to get the vax,

For six months. Then they need to get infected again, or get the vax.

-9 ( +5 / -14 )

I was advised by my GP recently not to get a jab, but to wait for oral treatments to become available. I'm inclined to take his advice.

A lot of people with valid medical excemptions get this advice, becaue that is why a medical professional have to be sure the person can or not be vaccinated.

Unfortunately other people also get this advice without a valid reason, because not all people that work on any field are actually prepared to do their work professionally. Some doctors think they know better than the medical consensus and do things like using antibiotics for viral infections, take lots of unnecessary tests, or fail to recommend their patients the course of action that actually has less risks.

The vast majority of young and healthy recover from Covid with no or little problems

Which still is a bigger risk than what they get from the vaccines.

I don’t think one should intentionally get infected just to get natural immunity, but if someone has already recovered from Covid, they have broad lasting immunity and do not need to get the vax, which comes with its own risks.

That only works if the immune response is well characterized, as happens with the vaccines, if not then you never will know how well, or for how long, a person is protected. It is not the same to be still recovering after spending two months on a ventilator thanks to COVID than getting the infection asymptomatically. If anything this would call for repeated determination of antibody titers, which by itself is a procedure with risks, that can accumulate to be higher than with the vaccine.

-8 ( +5 / -13 )

Natural immunity, is not equivalent to being vaccinated - nor do all youngsters suffer no symptoms. Increasingly the virus has had an adverse effect on the young. Let alone the asymptomatic spread of the virus to others.

The witless rejection of inoculation, based mostly on emotive opining or some queer political ideology or completely weird tropes about tyranny or dumb beyond measure, bespeak to a gross ignorance. Let alone the concept of the common and greater good. Some of the completely idiotic assertions and behaviors by ant-vaxxers, asserting their right to violate protocol and simple manners & being polite reveal a deep fissure in their individual psyche.

Contrary to the rather vapid assertion a booster shot is not similar to annual flu shots because evidence of proof need be documented - such has been required to visit certain countries and admission to public school. It isn't, as falsely portrayed, an element of tyranny. It has to do with public health.

-6 ( +6 / -12 )

How is it that Kishida is advocating a third shot?

Japan seems to show little faith in the vaccines

Flying into Japan still comes with a penalty

People, with a two-shot of AstraZeneca or Pfizer are still quarantined at home in Japan for 10 or 14 days.

If the vaccines were deemed to be so effective then why the quarantine periods?

5 ( +9 / -4 )

“How is it that Kishida is advocating a third shot?”

One of a few reasons - besides GP advice - I have misgivings. If getting them meant that was it, done, finished forever it’d be another story.

If they are to be like the flu jab - which I’ve never had - they should be completely optional. No coercion, no communist-like mandates.

5 ( +8 / -3 )

The next wave will be among those who only have a mere 2 shots.

The only wave is a wave of the number of tests conducted. Basic knowledge tells you less tests, lower numbers.

My life didn't change even before I had my two shots. Won't be getting a booster as it has not been recommended by the rest of the world unless you are 65 and have underlying conditions.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

“Whereas millions dead from the virus is hard to ignore for any sensible or logical person.”

You have heard of the hospitals who get paid more funding for making no distinction between deaths of/with Covid?

Or the flawed PCR test on which the numbers are based?

Sadly the “fact-checkers” of Google and Facebook don’t allow dissenting articles.

7 ( +10 / -3 )

Still waiting for my first shot...

Must have the same immunity, even a better one than those who got the shot last spring.

Straight from the CDC...Last I checked they have more creditability than Japan

Who Is Eligible for a COVID-19 Vaccine Booster Shot?

Updated Oct. 7, 2021

What You Need to Know

COVID-19 Vaccine booster shots are available for the following Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine recipients who completed their initial series at least 6 months ago and are:

65 years and older

Age 18+ who live in long-term care settings

Age 18+ who have underlying medical conditions

Age 18+ who work in high-risk settings

Age 18+ who live in high-risk settings

0 ( +2 / -2 )

We are both 70 and our first two shots were good without problems. We know some older people who did have some problems. None requiring hospitalisation.

We will not be getting a third jab unless we will be required to have it.

-1 ( +4 / -5 )

Japan has been restoring social and economic activities to pre-pandemic levels since lifting a state of emergency covering Tokyo and 18 prefectures on Oct. 1 amid a steady decline in infections across the country.

I would bet you a new hundred dollar bill that if you asked Kishida-san directly if Japan will accept its very own issued vaccine certificate/passport for travel that he could not give a straight answer. This guy is slippery as an eel in a silk stocking.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

on august 1, 2021 the government revealed the compensation for mrna vaccine related injuries.

tier 1 disability pays out 5 million per year, while death pays out 44 million.

that seems like a lot of money for a supposedly safe vaccine...

5 ( +9 / -4 )

that seems like a lot of money for a supposedly safe vaccine.

Part of the deal is that no causal relationship is even necessary for the payments, so the vaccines could cause not a single victim and still people would be paid just because of the possibility.

-7 ( +3 / -10 )

Look for a tax hike to cover this new never ending injection.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

@Zichi. We will not be getting a third jab unless we will be required to have it.

Why ever not??

-2 ( +4 / -6 )

What don't you armchair "experts" not get.?

Natural immunity is far superior to a vaccine in giving long term immunity for any viral infection. End of story. Case closed. If you had a bout with covid you do not need to get a "vaccine" shot.

This is not even a vaccine in the traditional sense. It is a form of genetic therapy and has already been taken off the market in various countries due to deaths and serious adverse reactions.

I'll rely on my innate and natural immunity and not on some artificial sweetener.

0 ( +8 / -8 )

LOL, I haven't even had the first. You would have to point a gun at my fam to make me get that poison, because even a loaded one against my head wouldn't make me get it.

4 ( +8 / -4 )

"When's the fourth?"

This will never end. It hasn't sunk in for many people yet

A point that far too few are unwilling to or else unable to accept. The world governments and global media have done such a fine job trying to scare everyone about the dangers of COVID that they have created an endlessly perpetuating situation. The virus will likely become as watered down and common as influenza viruses, but the narrative about following orders and getting endless boosters will likely persist.

I legitimately worry about this situation given that COVID has around a 3% fatality rate (and that was the original strain) and all this panic and pandemonium. What of something with a real risk like Ebola? Will people even take something like it seriously given the unprecedented actions that have been taken with COVID?

Furthermore I worry that people will begin to trust science less and trust medicine less as a result. Making vaccine passports and mandates for an endless series of booster shots has the potential to trigger a massive backlash. And who exactly needs these booster shots? All the "guidance" about those who have gone 6+ months since their inoculation was complete with the assumption their antibody levels have fallen. Have they? Wouldn't it be prudent to check before getting yet another shot? Why is asking this question such a controversial issue for that matter?

I know several people that had significant side effects from their second Pfizer or Moderna shots. Two of them, as well as numerous people on these forms, have mentioned they do not intend to get a booster as a result. So what happens? Will they soon be considered "unvaccinated" and subject to exclusion or discrimination from mandates and passports? How is that fair?

And in the US in particular with the idea that people who have recovered from COVID and have natural immunity need to get the vaccines just to comply is equally insane: the point of the vaccines is to simulate the post-infection protection phase; why in the world would anyone with superior resistance need to then get artificial, inferior immunity? Why is that also a controversial question when it's common sense/basic science?

It really bothers me that all the right-wing conspiracy/antigovernmental types who have been making all kinds of absurd claims for the duration of this pandemic have started to sound plausible given what has been going on. The world governments have deemed it fit to radically abuse their power during this time period.

4 ( +7 / -3 )

Japan is now benefiting immensely from having a healthy population. However older people with age related immunosenescence need vaccines to keep this novel virus at bay as they are more susceptible to every communicable disease and like everyone else are naive to SARS-CoV-2.

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

You have heard of the hospitals who get paid more funding for making no distinction between deaths of/with Covid?

Or the flawed PCR test on which the numbers are based?

Sadly the “fact-checkers” of Google and Facebook don’t allow dissenting articles.

And this is your evidence for denying that millions have died from the virus is it? It’s all a funding scam and Google and Facebook are covering it all up. Sure. Get out more.

You would have to point a gun at my fam to make me get that poison, because even a loaded one against my head wouldn't make me get it.

What are you trying to prove? Nobody believes this drivel.

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

What don't you armchair "experts" not get.?

Everything in this is wrong wrong and wrong. But you don’t strike me as the listening type so I won’t try to explain.

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

As someone who got the 3rd Pfizer shot(US pharmacies aren't actually checking if you are qualified or not, they just give it to you for asking as long had you had 2 Pfizer shots 6 months ago), the side effect will be different from the 2nd shot.

Just watch out for strange chest pain that you never had with first 2 shots; other side effects won't be as severe.

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

My friend had her third Pfizer in Canada the other day. Same as the others she said - no problems.

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

Reading discussions over the past year of conspiracies, evil vaccines and masks becoming a political belief has helped countless people worldwide in physical conditioning and understanding of the humanity.

They've improved the range of motion and muscle tone of their necks by shaking their heads back and forth in disbelief at the profound dumbness within the species.

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

Natural immunity is far superior to a vaccine in giving long term immunity for any viral infection.

No it is not, because that comes with all the risks you are trying to avoid in the first place, getting your hand amputated is not "superior" to a safety glove for the purpose of not losing a finger to machinery.

This is not even a vaccine in the traditional sense.

It is according to all the professionals that work with vaccines and immunity, so your artificial requirements so you can personally consider it a vaccine are not actually important.

The virus will likely become as watered down and common as influenza viruses, but the narrative about following orders and getting endless boosters will likely persist.

As if has persisted for all other diseases that for which the risk have became so low as to not being specially important compared with all others during daily life? there is no reason to consider COVID special in this aspect, there is no need to exaggerate the dangers just because governments are overreacting against the irrational opposition from a segment of the population. A balance is likely to be reached the closer we are to controlling the pandemic.

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

"Same as the others she said - no problems."

It's the long term effects we don't know. Why? Because the jabs are in trial phase, with emergency use authorisation.

My colleague for one, has had his asthma playing up for over a week. Never knew he had it till his first jab.

NSW has just brought in jab-passports as part of their re-opening. Fingers crossed Japan remains sensible on this.
