Soon enough 47 of 47.

The government here is still fully moving on luck, they did not make use of the time they had to increase hospital capacity and supply of test kits, either the Japanese are really different and are not getting covid or sooner or later the big outbreak will come, covid will become like the yearly flu so keeping the country closed will not be an option or do they want to go on forever? over 80% vaccinated so what are we waiting to start travel again??

There’s actually a silver lining. A new study shows that catching the mild omicron variant, which is still proving to be no worse than a 3-day cold, enhances immunity to the more serious Delta variant.

Caught it last month. The only reason I got tested was I lost my sense of smell.

If you are double vaccinated this is not even a regular cold. Isolating while feeling well enough to go work out was the hard part.

We are all going to catch it. Vaccinate and live your life. I had the flu some years ago, that was way rougher.

Oh darn, silly me! Had I downloaded the Twitter app I would have been able to watch the video!!!

Yesterday there was report stating 'Asia' had avoided Omicron. Someone is telling fibs to sell newspapers.

15 ( +17 / -2 )

Anyone have any idea why

Do you not understand how mRNA works?

Search "immunity after omicron"

The symptoms of omicron in order are runny nose, headache, fatigue, scratchy throat, sneezing. No loss of taste or smell is being reported with omicron.

So the flu is prolly worse than Omicron for most people .

You had Delta. You don't lose sense of smell with Omicron. Nor do you get a temperature. Same symptoms as a very mild cold.

It looks like the early studies are showing this variant, while more transmissible, has a much better result with less hospitalizations and deaths. I'll let @Virusrex weigh in, but maybe this really is going to bring us to an end of the government mandated efforts to stymie society:

https://www.msn.com/en-us/health/medical/omicron-may-be-the-harbinger-of-the-end-of-covids-epidemic-phase-study-says/ar-AAShgNu

And the scientific study behind Omicron being more transmissible:

As for the mentally deficient asserting that SARSCoV-2 is no worse than a cold - such an ignorant declaration is contrary to actual fact. As cases increase in the USA and other countries, hospitals are beginning to see a surge in patients and the numbers are becoming a strain on the healthcare system.  There's no evidence yet that omicron has a different level of severity compared with delta - that's not anecdotal or from a blog, but from MRC Centre for Global Infectious Disease Analysis, Jameel Institute, Imperial College London. Same assertion from Johns Hopkins and WHO.

The fear mongers are hitting this place again with disinformation and also with personal abuse at those who use factual data to analyse the facts.

Omicron is far less dangerous than Delta, though more contagious. Most cases found in hospital are from those who were admitted with something else and it showed in testing. It has been known to be far less deadly since early December as shown the South African data. The Western media and governments ignored this and went in with the usual fear mongering. I mentioned this data as did others on JT at the time and was ridiculed.

The types that fail to see the facts are the same, ones who claim the Japan death toll is really 10X higher, the Olympics would start an Olympic variant and healthy people are at the same risk as the elderly and obese.

As someone stated the main effects are similar to a cold, and this is correct and the data bears this out.

Restricted borders are to minimize the effort to deal with further outbreak, which will come as visitors from other high risks area are allowed in… We would not travel if quarantine is still required or vax status discrimination exists at travel destinations. In the meantime we would try to keep our life style here at home in Japan, stay safe and healthy and not get sick

Enjoy the downvotes - logical thoughts and facts aren't appreciated by most here, Steve.

There is a new study that Omicron can’t escape T-cells, which means that for fuly vaccinated people, infection is a possibility but the immune system can fight it really well.

Time to boost those white blood cells.

Omicron variant reported in 22 of Japan's prefectures

You can safely assume it is on all already. But what is the problem with a variant that has extremely mild symptoms? We should be glad it is out there.

-1 ( +4 / -5 )

We should be glad it is out there.

Yes, this is how the pandemic will end.

It’s good to see a voice of reason, falseflagsteve. Cheers and have a good new year.

-7 ( +2 / -9 )

Steve- right as usual. It is really mild based on reports from South Africa and UK. And most omicron “hospitalizations” are there for something else.

-3 ( +3 / -6 )

So basically there's a flu in 22 prefectures. Let's also welcome back the flu after a year off. Since when do diseases take sabbaticals? Lol

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

natural vaccination is the only TRUE vaccination!

these 3 monthly vaccines are on the way out thank god!

-6 ( +3 / -9 )

Far more contagious and far less serious. This is what we need to end this thing. In the USA most people are ignoring the disease and going on like normal. That is why the CDC changed the 10 day quarantine to 5 days. Americans will be the first to get through Covid as the disease will burn out of its hosts. But, those Asian countries who have not come to understand the futility of fighting this disease will suffer a prolonged engagement which will end in a wrenching decision between medical safety and economic decline. No matter how hard a country tries to resist, in the end it's just "live and let die" then life goes on.

The link you provided only states it isn’t the common cold which is obvious and I don’t think anybody claimed that. However it does state that the main symptoms are similar to the common cold which is what most people are referring to I imagine. The data shows that Omicron is far less deadly and with much milder symptoms, this is factual evidence that has been known for almost 1 month.

Hospitilized cases are far fewer with a huge drop in the need for ICU. The stays in hospital are on average shorter with milder symptoms. This is not a danger like Covid was at first. We know how to treat this now, there are vaccines and this is far less deadly. I have no concerns for my safety or catching Omicron.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

There are 7 corona viruses and 4 are variations of the common cold. It is a fact. If you don't know those facts, research it. There are plenty of papers from plenty of universities.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Possibly even less rational than diagnosing other people's Covid variant on the basis of reported symptoms is diagnosing their intelligence based on correspondence of their opinions with one's own

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

Most important part of that website is the disclaimer.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

More people told me they had covid this week than the entire rest of the pandemic. This is going to hit almost eveyone and vaccines do not stop this variant whatsoever yet everyone says it is no more than a mild cold. Time to end 14 day quarantine in all countries and especially Japan. Covid is burning itself out and quarantine is pointless now that omicron is inside your borders.

As for those holding parties, Kishida asked them to do so in small groups and at eateries with certificates for taking anti-virus measures.

Didn't know the virus doesn't get transmitted in smaller groups.

S.A. just delcared Omicron to be over. So on to the nexrt chapter in this never ending saga!

Here's to the lessening of Omicron:

And the WHO saying the opposite. You have to love these guys and their sticking to the Chinese like glue:
