Political unrest in Japan and there are no photos? Will you be updating this later with pictures?

@blue

Data at the link below. You can do the simple math yourself.

Uh? Several hundred Japanese? Demonstrating and protesting? Either something must be getting bigly serious, or else it's just an infectious Trumpy meme picked up from social media. What goes around comes around!

7 ( +20 / -13 )

cancel the fast-track approval granted to COVID-19 vaccines earlier this year.

Not cancel. But don't make purely voluntary, attach honest warnings and don't administer to pregnant women or those who are likely to get pregnant.

They are also opposed to the government's plan to introduce so-called vaccine passports, according to their website.

Right. No segregation in Japan or anywhere in the world please.

More idiots! Here in Australia there were a pair of antivaxers who were also youtubers and made a few antivaxing videos. They both died of Covid last month.

13 ( +30 / -17 )

@Burning Bush

That means more than 1 in 5 Japanese adults are opting out.

About 15% of the population over age 12 are currently opting out.

As of yesterday, 75% of the total population had received one shot. About 10% of the population is not eligible (below age 12). So that leaves us with a 15% opt-out.

13 ( +20 / -7 )

The ignorant and idiotic are always to be found in every country, and these idiots prove the point.

6 ( +24 / -18 )

Social media in the hands of the ignorant seem to be on a metastasizing trajectory, turning democracies into idiocracies. Scary stuff!

4 ( +19 / -15 )

Awesome job, Japan! It is always good to speak out against perceived tyranny.

Vulnerable people should get the vax. But why would you force vaccinations on those not at risk?

Japan has likely reached herd immunity.

If there is a spike in cases, hospitalizations will likely be low due to natural immunity and vulnerable people getting vaccinations. If hospital capacity is a concern, there are highly effective therapeutics.

Compared to other nations, Japan is at low-risk for COVID.

-6 ( +20 / -26 )

Paul, save the drama, give us facts please. Explain why healthy people need the vax and how masks prevent transmission of this aerosol virus.

-9 ( +18 / -27 )

U.S. has had packed stadiums with little mask use for football and baseball for two months now, yet COVID cases have dropped like a rock.

-7 ( +18 / -25 )

Where are these dummies as in regards to the polio, smallpox, measles, and rubella vaccines we have to get to go to school here?

I had to get, no in fact, they used to come to our schools and we used to get them there too.

Now we have a disease that's running rampant but this is the only one they feel they need to show their stupidity and protest?

9 ( +25 / -16 )

@Burning Bush- Can you post a link to the NHK report please?

Yeah, where's the reporting? Photos, interviews, names. What's the group's political affiliation, if any? Who's paying their legal fees for this? Were any non-Japanese involved? What did the police do?

Another classic Kyodo non-story this. Off to twitter then...

13 ( +21 / -8 )

I recently heard on a Joe Rogan podcast that there are a bunch of that Q-anon crap in Japan of all places... I wonder if these clowns are part of that?

5 ( +15 / -10 )

"....Quite a sentence. I wonder if they want to hear it from their surgeon right before having a procedure...."

Masking the whole population is questionable. Mask efficacy stops at large droplet transmission.....which is why surgeons wear them, to stop from spitting into open wounds and also to stop large droplet contamination from bodily fluids of the patient from entering the surgeon's mouth. The small micro-droplets that are associated with asymptomatic transmission are barely affected from the use of masks. And we all know that wearing a mask does not and never has PROTECTED the wearer from ingesting viral particles (unless it's an industrial respirator)....so the highest level of efficacy of a mask is the same as the proper use of a tissue when coughing or sneezing.....the mass wearing of masks of otherwise healthy people is nothing but an exercise in moral grandstanding and the desire to not feel helpless in the face of a fearful situation.

If you don't have symptoms them mask wearing is a waste of time, getting your vaccine on the other hand is actual science.....so go and go yours and then we can forget about these silly "band-aid" policies to make people feel better.

Japan plans to widely use vaccine passports for commercial purposes as part of efforts to normalize social and economic activities that have long been stagnant due to the coronavirus pandemic.

And stigmatizing people by way of segregation, keeping people out of businesses,

will help "un-stagnate" the economy?

Better ask restaurants in NYC, Paris, Rome, and many others, how that is working out.

I thought Japan had more common sense.

People have the right to medical and societal freedom and privacy,

when you start fooling with that, expect pushback- it's human nature.

In recent weeks, Tokyo has seen a sharp fall in COVID-19 cases in tandem with stepped-up vaccinations. But people are still urged by the government to wear face masks to prevent the spread of the virus.

Well, to all those who have been wondering about the "miraculous" drop in numbers,

the mystery has been solved.

It wasn't your careful behavior, your sacrifices; loss of freedom, income and mobility, it was a vax, that neither prevents, or eliminates the virus, and has no effect on the "delta" variant.

But it suits the agenda, to have less numbers, and the media complies.

Wake up, suckers.

0 ( +17 / -17 )

Happyday: Anyone in that crowd can pick up the virus take it home and infect the under-aged unvaccinated. So that a good thing mate ????? That is call being a "selfish idiot". Rights are not just for the individual, it is also for the community. The community came before any individual. This is what is wrong the the typical American citizen who interpret "their" not "your" bill of rights incorrectly. Assuming that this Bill is design for them. NO WRONG. It design for all it citizen not the individual.

"That number will only grow as more and more boosters are added to the regime of vaccinations."

We may hope. Meanwhile, the court incident is a very positive sign. Here's hoping for more of the same.

Vaccine passports are also blatant discrimination. Here's hoping they never take off here.

0 ( +17 / -17 )

The Tokyo High Court, which manages the building, advises visitors to wear masks but cannot compel them.

That's why I love it here.

More like self-selecting oneself out of society based on ignorance and a lack of regard for the safety of others.

Condolences.

-2 ( +15 / -17 )

Good there are no photos of this. Give them no airtime.

-6 ( +10 / -16 )

Japan has likely reached herd immunity.

Poeple have been saying the same since more than a year ago, and waves keep happening, without a properly based study (with epidemiological analysis) this is just baseless speculation contradicted by what happens in reality.

Masking the whole population is questionable. Mask efficacy stops at large droplet transmission

Any scientific proof of this? because up until now the efficacy of generalized use of masks on situations where they offer advantages (indoors for example) is a well demonstrated thing. Which is why every medical and scientific institution of the world recommends this measure. Obviously just someone on the internet saying all the scientists and doctors of the world are wrong is not enough to prove it.

What you say "everybody knows" runs contrary to what has been well demonstrated, unless you can corroborate it with actual scientific information you would still be more likely to be wrong.

-3 ( +14 / -17 )

"More like self-selecting oneself out of society based on ignorance and a lack of regard for the safety of others."

The "vaccines" do not stop transmission, and all the studies showing this are being branded "false-information" by the fact-checkers employed by FaceBook etc. Ergo, a jabbed person has nothing to fear from a non-jabbed person. The only thing the "vaccines" are doing is maybe...reducing symptoms. Then you are scheduled for a booster shot in a few months. Then another, and another, and another. Condolences

I agree with you @theResident 10:20am (surprised?) they definitely don’t need publicity. - My earlier @6:48am point is about the reluctance of J media to depict such events. For example, Tokyo’s Big O is ‘done & gone’ but weren’t there also “hundreds” outside protesting the opening ceremony? - If media isn’t witnessing and depicting such events, how can the rest of the world trust what they do choose to show or write about?

"That's why I love it here."

Same

-1 ( +13 / -14 )

This hasnt been reported properly at all. Just sensationalist and misleading “dusrupted by anti-vaxxers”.

News blackout. MSM should be ashamed.

5 ( +14 / -9 )

Good on them speaking up for free speech! Seems to be frowned upon unless it's the "right" free speech these days...

6 ( +19 / -13 )

"Good on them speaking up for free speech! Seems to be frowned upon unless it's the "right" free speech these days..."

Precisely. All the vax-passport proponents on here won't be satisfied until we live our lives like Communist China.

1 ( +18 / -17 )

I support them 100%. People who are capable of separating fact from fiction.

-2 ( +18 / -20 )

The vaccines absolutely do reduce the risk of transmission and arguing otherwise reveals one's own level of ignorance.

This is just basic fact proven by credible experts.

The fact that some choose to ignore it says more about them than the science.

And sorry to burst your (right wing) bubble, but vaccine mandates and passports are absolutely where the rational majority of society is headed.

Don't want to get vaccinated? Fine, but you won't be partaking in a wider variety of social activities in the near future and it's not discrimination, it's the consequences of one's own actions or lack thereof.

-5 ( +14 / -19 )

Yeah, where's the reporting? Photos, interviews, names. What's the group's political affiliation, if any? Who's paying their legal fees for this? Were any non-Japanese involved? What did the police do?

Of course it’s obvious it is blatant anti-reporting. Business as usual with anything calling into question the official COVID/VACCINE narrative.

Is it too much to ask for a statement or interview with the plaintiffs’ lawyer so the public can get some idea (beyond ad hominem infused propaganda) what the real story is?

3 ( +15 / -12 )

And sorry to burst your (right wing) bubble, but vaccine mandates and passports are absolutely where the rational majority of society is headed.

Don't want to get vaccinated? Fine, but you won't be partaking in a wider variety of social activities in the near future and it's not discrimination, it's the consequences of one's own actions or lack thereof.

This is isn't a left/right thing. There are plenty of fair-minded left-wingers who oppose the mandates even if they've taken the vaxes themselves, and plenty of authoritarian types on the right who support the mandates.

It's a matter true or false. There's no rationality in enforcing vaccine mandates and passports for a virus of this level of existential danger. You might have an argument with smallpox, but not with this one.

3 ( +15 / -12 )

Finally it’s all only a question of probabilities. Vaccinations are highly probable useful, but a few people die. And wearing masks is highly probable useful, especially in a crowded environment, but you increase in that timespan your own virus load inside your body. So my advice would be, recalculate or estimate the probabilities for the situation you are in or plan to go into. It’s easy, clear and therefore no reason for society conflicts or denying other people’s arguments completely and radically.

-2 ( +7 / -9 )

People are beginning to indicate and account those vaccinated are the cause of the outbreak variant virus.

0 ( +13 / -13 )

As expected the article comments got full of antivaxxers repeating the same lies as ever,

the vaccines are rushed - no they were not.

the vaccines are gene therapy - not they are not

the vaccines have lots of life threatening side effects - no they have not

people being against the vaccines because of lies are not antivaxxers - yes they are

COVID is not dangerous - yes it is

vaccines do not reduce transmission - yes they do

etc.

And then in a few days an article about how antivaxxers get to repeat their lies for free, but of course only on social media, never in articles put forward by the stablished news media, right?

0 ( +16 / -16 )

And then in a few days an article about how antivaxxers get to repeat their lies for free,

Maybe they're not anti-vaxxers, but pro-choicers....

1 ( +13 / -12 )

Good on them. Protesting against discrimination and measures your own country's government you don't like in a democracy like Japan is a right. Great to see at least one democracy in the region still allowing freedom for it's citizens.

1 ( +14 / -13 )

This Coronavirus will never go away if these anti-vaxxers have their way.

The vaccines have to be done to return to normal. Otherwise, it'll be like Russian roulette every time you go outside. And that's what's wrong with their line of thinking.

-1 ( +14 / -15 )

The police have powers to deal with these people.... A verbal warning should be issued, then if ignored, they should use as much violence and discomfort necessary to clear the disrupters away. Pepper spray, water and if necessary an old fashioned beat down.
