Groundhog day, rolling three weeks extensions that last 6 months to a year. Targeted attack on alcohol while trains, Buses, and restaraunts are jammed full. Our tax money getting handed out like candy on Halloween.

Starbucks and everywhere else is jam packed. Perhaps they know a way that teenage girls can consume frappuchinos without taking off their masks. Meet the new boss, same as the old boss, absolutely nothing has changed since last year.

C'mon guys. This is a joke at this point. Where is the evidence that these pseudo SOEs have any effect at all on covid?

23 ( +26 / -3 )

Half-hearted measures to make people believe that jgov is doing their work.

19 ( +25 / -6 )

Turn off the restrictions, open the borders, let people live how they want to.

Ginza line to Asakusa not empty like that in the picture

6:30 Odakyu Line packed with ojisan, one grump slammed the window shut.

People coughing, spluttering.

Here is the cause of Omicron spread. Nothing to do with restaurants in comparison.

Tokyo, 12 prefectures ask to extend COVID quasi-emergency

Ya don't say!!!

I'm shocked.

Let me fix the headline for you.

Tokyo, 12 prefectures ask to be able to ask their bars and restaurants to voluntarily close at 8.

Have I got that right or did I miss something?

13 ( +20 / -7 )

I'm convinced at this point that they are using the quasi-emergency to buy votes using tax payer money. Only the bars and restaurants that were already going to make less than the assistance are following the rules.

13 ( +13 / -0 )

Not to mention they don't cover their mouths either when coughing/ sneezing because they think their masks will block the saliva from spreading. One guy literally sneezed on the train right in front of me with his useless sponge mask, and I felt the nasty air hit my face. The pacifist in me was trying really hard to retain me from literally grabbing this bloke and teaching him a lesson.

At least he didn't pull down his mouth to sneeze. I've seen so many people do that and it's always a WTF moment because what's even the point of wearing your mask?!

Extending this SoE makes about as much sense as giving a fish a bicycle.

Tokyo and 12 other prefectures currently under a COVID-19 quasi-state of emergency have requested an extension to the measure set to end this weekend, the prefectural governments said Tuesday.

Might as well just make it for the entire month of February.

Or Japan’s favorite, till the end of March and start a new in April.

There is no difference. Just wasting time and a lot of lip service.

But then again, it wouldn’t be the Japanese Government if it wasn’t a total farce.

10 ( +15 / -5 )

Dear bar and Restaurant owners please close early to stop the spread.

Just ignore the mass gatherings on the trains and also the Tokyo Marathon running by outside.

Whilst personally happy it looks likely to go ahead got to feel for those affected by these actions.

10 ( +13 / -3 )

It’s a jgovt 3 ring circus show and playing the same quasi tricks

10 ( +11 / -1 )

Some silly old goat with his mask on his bottom lip tried slamming the window shut on the Ginza line this morning.

He was reeducated pretty sharpish.

Case counts are meaningless, if there are few hospitalizations and few or no fatalities.

The country had a record high number of virus-related deaths yesterday.

8 ( +13 / -5 )

According to data from the National Hospital Organization, only 0.9 percent of 1,321 patients hospitalized in 67 hospitals nationwide in January had symptoms worsen to the point of requiring oxygen support after a four-day hospitalization period.

So each hospital had about 20 patients, less than two of whom required oxygen support after four days of hospitalization.

Due to all these Quasi Bankruptcy Policies, Thousands of business have gone out of business. We have most have had two shots going on three and we wear masks. We do not need more inept government policies anymore. Lives are at risk every single day. But yeah! Make it look like you are doing something government officials.

7 ( +13 / -6 )

these so called "quasi lockdowns" never worked well here since its just half measured plan.

this one is same thing as they did before, just repeating same thing...

6 ( +9 / -3 )

More lip service to disguise the plain ol' fact that the government is doing jack all. At least change up the tune - how about a weekend only SoE instead? Or every other day SoE? At least it'll be a nice change of pace.

6 ( +9 / -3 )

There’s a quasi state of emergency? Never would have known. Was at a 24h izakakaya in Shibuya last night until midnight.

5 ( +15 / -10 )

Tokyo = Japan

Japan = Tokyo

So whom do they really ask?

themselves?

5 ( +9 / -4 )

in Japan covid comes with consuming of alcohol in restaurant and after 8pm....thats all we have learn from these quasi lockdowns...last two years.

irony off

request to refrain from nonessential travel between prefectures in an effort to stem the spread of the virus.

LOL I've been to at least 10 different prefectures in the past 2 months. 'Gotta love the toothless requests.

4 ( +7 / -3 )

Ask, Seek, Consider, on discussion etc

3 ( +9 / -6 )

Yeah requesting refrain from travel, subsidize same time

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Meaning they don't want to implement SOE

2 ( +4 / -2 )

So. How is the high vaccination rate working out for cases?

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Every time (January 2022) I looked at the news, there was headline virus news with Koike or Yoshimura looking at a computer screen telling us to not do this or that.

It is so old!

It’s an invisible claw like hand cutting off our oxygen.

Back in the UK, nobody is talking about Covid.

The Japanese need to get over it

2 ( +5 / -3 )

I think Steve Mc C is being sarcastic......

2 ( +3 / -1 )

No child under 10 has died of Covid in Japan.

@steve

Is that so? Well, some positive at least.

the health ministry released new hospitalization guidelines that will allow COVID-19 patients not requiring oxygen or other medical support to be discharged after four days at the doctor's discretion.

Who can really monitor them if it's not doctor while their in home?

If they ask for extension they should ask for real emergency not quasi one.

1 ( +14 / -13 )

of course, GOV needs the emergency state to avoid responsibility regarding vaccine side effect. just a trick

1 ( +7 / -6 )

While no death is acceptable, I would feel a lot better if the numbers were back under 10 per day.

Yeah, we've had a relatively long period of that just before omicron cases took off, whole of November to 2nd week of January.

Politicians will never know the term "Osmosis".

They thought the cases will go down after three weeks, like in every country aside from Japan.

I guess, Japan is special again.

Good if true

With many Omicron cases, there are bound to be more "COVID-related deaths".

But has anyone in Japan died yet, from Omicron?

Case counts are meaningless, if there are few hospitalizations and few or no fatalities.

Meanwhile, the health ministry released new hospitalization guidelines that will allow COVID-19 patients not requiring oxygen or other medical support to be discharged after four days at the doctor's discretion.

If you don't need oxygen, you shouldn't even BE in the hospital.......you have a cough and a sneeze FFS

-1 ( +5 / -6 )

COVID-linked deaths hit a record high of 159 on Tuesday, with nationwide daily cases topping 100,000 for the fifth consecutive day. Tokyo accounted for 17,113 of the new COVID-19 cases.

Meanwhile, the health ministry released new hospitalization guidelines that will allow COVID-19 patients not requiring oxygen or other medical support to be discharged after four days at the doctor's discretion.

The shortening of the hospitalization period from 10 days aims to free up beds for the elderly and those whose symptoms may suddenly worsen amid rising bed occupancy rates for COVID patients in various regions.nsible people are forced to change their dangerous behavior, and get this virus contained , reopen the economy. The healthcare system cannot sustain these numbers everyday and we are nowhere near the peak or even a flattening out .

Steven Mccarthy

lockdowns don’t work, Omicron cannot be stopped. No child under 10 has died of Covid in Japan. Children generally have mild to no symptoms.

Open up and enjoy life

-1 ( +5 / -6 )

The death count is the only number I have taken seriously to judge the severity of this pandemic over the last year or so. Back in Jan or Dec, I might have shared your sediments, however deaths are now over a hundred per day including record highs. This is what is cause for concern. Before all the “oh it’s only 100 in a population of xxxxxxxx” folks come out or the “this other disease causes xxx deaths” people start yapping, this particular endemic is unique. 100 deaths affecting 2x plus or more people. I for one have remorse and sympathy for both those that have passed and those that are affected by this. It’s no less important to face this as seriously as any other issue. While no death is acceptable, I would feel a lot better if the numbers were back under 10 per day.

How many of those deaths are ACTUALLY because of covid? and how many are people who have died of something else but have also tested positive for covid.....there is a very significant distinction. Of course no deaths are acceptable but people die all the time from many other diseases and causes......and we don't control the actions of the rest of the population for them!! The health system can cope if spurious cases aren't mandatorily kept in hospital regardless if hospitalisation is required or not. It is heartbreaking for people and familes involved and they do have my sympathy, but life has to move on. These restrictions haven't done anything to slow transmission, they simply have disrupted peoples lives who didn't require their lives to be disrupted. The rest of the world, places such as the UK that were worse hit in all factors than Japan, have realised that restrictions are now useless (they have been really for almost a year), they won't stop transmissions. High vaccination rates and natural immunity from exposure coupled with the reduction in severity of the symptoms have now rendered this virus into something that we will get year on year and generally live with. The post 9pm drinker is not the bogeymen.

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

The only thing positive is the number of PCR test results daily . And children are in fact leading the surge and despite how many times someone repeats the same lie , Japan does NOT report the mortality rate in children of all ages. From 0-19. I go to work everyday. I do my very best everyday to keep children safe . I don’t sit here all day spreading the virus of misinformation and outright false statements, unproven facts or stats . I don’t hide behind a fake name . And I don’t post lies hourly , daily , every 30 mins . And I don’t deny fact based science.

Omicron is approx 10X less fatal than Delta, More people have in a short period of time as it is far more contagious.

If you are nit very very old, already in very poor health or morbidly obese, the dangers are minimal.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

Pointless, stop this nonsense and scaring innocent people, especially the children. Time to get on with running the economy again.

-3 ( +4 / -7 )

Not even a little . It’s past time to change the rules and implement and enforce a hard lockdown. We’ve wasted 2 years on these worthless SOE’S. Freeze the economy for 3-4 weeks . Give the hospitals time to get under instead of out of control. Kids are getting infected at the bars . So shut it down. So called adults that refuse to do the right thing, incarcerate them in “Covid camps.” Foreigners that wanna continue to be careless with public health, deport them. No more lame excuses about it only gets the old , fat, and those with other medical conditions. And everyone else in between being collateral damage . Here in Japan , omicron is the deadliest variant. The hospitals and healthcare system are on the brink . And Japan does not report the mortality rate in children with Covid in any age group. Fear ? It’s time , no. It’s past time to fear and spread it . Children are leading the surge day in and day out. Better than spreading the virus of misinformation, fake facts , stats from other countries. They don’t apply here.

-3 ( +4 / -7 )

People are blind with whats happening now for some reason.

Denial won't make this go away, we have to act.

Act responsibly.

Act now.

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

Look at the data, idiot , it's right there =)

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

Please not Mie! Going there on holiday next week…we usually eat dinner after 9pm.

-4 ( +5 / -9 )

They thought the cases will go down after three weeks, like in every country aside from Japan.

I've just looked at UK US Australia Canada,

Far more are dying now daily than in the previous wave.

Far more, look at Australia and Canada fir example:

https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/australia/#graph-deaths-daily

https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/canada/#graph-deaths-daily

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

Time to lock it down. Omicron is the deadliest variant in Japan. Children are leading the surge. Good thing the jgov does NOT share the mortality rate in children with Covid .

-6 ( +3 / -9 )

lock yourself up!
