The U.S. government attributed the rise to the fact that Ospreys are used in extremely tough conditions, according to Japanese officials. The officials also played down concerns over the safety of the aircraft itself.

@toasted. To protect Americans from themselves will involve imprisoning the NRA, dismantling the arms industry, investing in technology and renewable non-nuclear energy. Free health and education. End to sending weapon systems and bases to over 100 countries. Have a national "hug a neighbor day". Provide clean water and food so future generations avoid the possibility of mutation. Export positive aspects of individual communities to build pride. And don't attack NK or Iran.

How twisted your view on the Okinawa base issue is as always!

There were several villages in pre-war day Chatan Village that were thoroughly swallowed up into Kadena Air Base while the villagers were herded in camps as civilian prisoners of war. When they were allowed to return home, all they found there was vast, expanded and fenced-off airfields with no trace of their old villages. Reluctantly, the villagers had to settle in near-by areas like Mizugama, Yara and Sunabe. Recently, villagers from the air base-vanished Nosato revived their traditional festival at a new settlement outside the base. You know villages are bonded together strongly through ttheir radition and nativity. Land is an important factor to play here.

So shouldn't your suggestion be the other way round that residents living near the air base move to other places to avoid noise pollution?  No, it's rather the air base that should be relocated somewhere else. Period.

Yeah, one of their "officials" being an old guy sitting in a chair in an observation deck WAITING for an accident to give his life of complaints purpose, more like. ANd since the last US military aircraft incident, where the chopper crashed and no one died, no less than THREE Japanese choppers have gone down, killing several, including a commercial chopper yesterday with four feared dead. But you never hear the fanatics talk about grounding Japanese military or commercial aircraft despite saying it's about "safety".

Not news. But of course local media and Okinawa get on the bandwagon as usual. The JSDF will soon be deploying F-35As and MV-22s. Get over it.

Firetrucks are dispatched any time an aircraft experiences strange engine or landing gear indications or malfunctions. They're there mostly to check the aircraft's condition and communicate with the pilot about the state of the aircraft as well as help guide it off the runway if necessary, and check for debris left on the runway.

Routine occurrence, happens all over the world every day even at large international airports with commercial planes.

People are allowed to live anywhere in Japan. If the bases bother me very much, I will think about moving to other part of Japan.

But calling it an "emergency landing" helps give the locals something else to protest and complain about, thus boosting the Kadena Town Government's position

Anytime any aircraft is forced to make an unscheduled "precautionary" landing at just about any runway in the world, fire engines will be deployed as a precautionary measure.
