"Temporary" being the key word here. Let's keep making the cost of this invasion so high in every which way that Putin will withdraw.

Close the embassy in Moscow while you are at it too.

“Godspeed” to those putting themselves in harm’s way to rescue those that remained and ‘Bless the good people of Poland” for facilitating the evacuation.

This late operation still seems much better coordinated than the previous Japanese evacuation earlier this year, with four planes for ‘one’ person.

Is this really the main news?
Who cares if Japan closes the embassy.
How about the more important news the capitulation of Kharkiv?

Many analysts believe that this conflict will carry on for a while depending if the people of Ukraine decide to fight tell the end, and by the look of it so far the people of Ukraine are ready and will fight till the end, and who wouldn't when you have a leader like Mr. Zelenskyy.

Perhaps they aren’t covering that because it hasn’t actually happened.

That was likely the case for the first few days, but in the past day they’ve clearly been much more indiscriminate and targeting purely civilian buildings in Kharkiv and elsewhere.
If they do what they did in Chechnya and Syria, the Russians are planning a massive bombardment that will result in a huge civilian massacre in Ukrainian cities.

The Russians are going relatively softly. However, the nature of war is that even going softly kills many innocent victims. The usual war propaganda BS is in full swing.... old ladies with Molotov cocktails, 2016 Bulgarian gas explosion victims in photos.... We will probably never know the truth. But for sure, we are not hearing it now.

Sounds like a good idea?

They should have closed the embassy weeks ago.
Evacuation weeks ago.
Why is linear thought so incredibly slow for some Japanese ?
Hard to move forward when looking at your feet and walking in circles.
Now more people will be in a dangerous situation that could have been avoided.

@zichi: They have been calling for that since last week. Not going to happen - Could well cause a massive escalation. Nato reaffirmed that today. You really want Nato fighters taking on Russian fighters in dogfights?
Even your little village wouldn't escape the ramifications of that.

@rainyday: No - It's important that diplomatic relations are maintained at an absolute bare minimum. Foreign diplomats have eyes and ears on the ground that may prove crucial in the coming weeks ahead. I agree with a complete economic blockade of Russia, but be very careful what you wish for.

From my understanding their are Russian soldiers pleading for citizens to get out of the way of tankers. Perhaps this is because they were lied too. There was a article where one Russian soldier who had contact with his parents everyday then one day they had not heard from him and when they did he told them he was in the middle of a war and that people were dying he said he was told he was going on a training mission and realized his training mission is a war. He said they are killing innocent people.

One has to wonder when the Ukrainians will transfer their capital from Kyiv to a city further to the west that can be better protected such as Lviv or Ivano-Frankivsk? The symbol of standing in place is great but Kyiv is just too close to Belarus to function effectively as the capital for much longer. Better to move west and organize resistance from there where their immediate safety from attack is not consuming so much of their lives. JMHO.
As for the comment about closing Ukraine's embassy in Japan, the mind reels trying to imagine where a comment like that comes from!

There are occasions of Russian platoon and squad sized units surrendering to Ukrainian forces. There is a video out there showing a Ukrainian ambush of a Russian patrol in what looks like a residential area where as soon as the shooting starts the Russians just run away without firing. The US DoD is reporting Russian troops are sabotaging their vehicles, puncturing their fuel tanks and the like, so they don't have to fight.

Yep, useful stuff when thermobaric weapons are exploding in your neighborhood ......

A Russian told a Ukrainian to go too hell, the Ukrainian replied back, I would go, but you are already living in your hell in Russia under Putin

No insult to anyone @zichi. Just wondered why you would post such a comment that is a week old now. We all know this and most know why it can't / won't happen.

That’s probably a wise idea.
