The Pfizer vaccine has been shown to cause complications in older people ie death-older people should be wary of this one.
sensei258
I was fortunate enough, due to my prior military service, to receive the first dose of the moderna vaccine last week. As far as side effects go, I had pain at the injection site for about a day and a half. It felt like a bruise but there was none there of course. 2 days after the injection, I had a bout of severe itchy skin from the shoulders down to the waist. One dose of an over-the-counter antihistamine took care of that in short order.
sensei258
You may be interested to know, that the moderna vaccine has three times the active ingredient list the Pfizer version, but apparently they are both equally effective
sensei258
As the Pfizer version, once again my phone took what I said and change it to what it thinks I wanted to say
virusrex
That is false, people at very old age die at increased rates, but that happens with or without vaccines, to say something is the cause you need to at least demonstrate vaccinated people are more likely to have that effect than non-vaccinated people.
Monty
I take whatever will be available.
Meiyouwenti
The pharmaceutical companies will be exempted from damages if you get side effects or even die from taking their vaccines. I’ll wait until half of the population has been inoculated without getting seriously ill.
Mr Kipling
Kurisupisu...... please stop the spread of nonsense. The Pfizer vaccine has NOT been shown to cause complications in older people or anyone else.
Mr Kipling
What HAS shown to cause complications and death in older people is the corona virus!
virusrex
That is also false, all human vaccines are evaluated and tested by specialists working for the government, and any kind of irregularity is severely punished, including paying exorbitant amount of money or losing the license for the vaccine. The only kind of exception is to be sued by particulars, but that is just one of the many different kinds of liabilities a company has, and this is also done to facilitate paying damages to the people.
Gaijinshogun
Some progress at least. The next challenge will be getting people to take it. A couple of foreigners I know and some Japanese colleagues said they won’t take it because it’s rushed and they don’t trust vaccines because of some things that happened in the 1990s. Meanwhile we continue to be forced to attend the office every day. One guy even said “does it even work?”. A little education on public health would go a long way at this point
Michael Machida
I am not taking either of the vaccines until they are proven to work without killing anyone first. That will take about 2 to 3 more years.

I'll take whatever is offered to me first - but I am well down the line in priority. If it is approved Feb 15th, will keep some of the moaners off this website. Still plenty of countries who have NOT approved anything or will also be during the month of February.
if people don't want to take it then for those who want it AFTER the high risk groups have been taken care of , I hope there is a system implemented where if someone doesn't want it, they will move down the next per
Potentially some brighter news to start a Thursday.
Samit Basu
@sensei258
Right now, people are reporting 2~3 times as many side effects from Moderna vaccines than from Pfizer one.
The best vaccine to get appears to be the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, which Dr. Fauci is saying could be approved in February. This is being tracked as single dose vaccine because its single dose generates comparable antibody level as Moderna/Pfizer vaccines after 2nd dose. But the real kicker is that you can get the second shot 2 months later, and see the antibody boost to the highest level reported to date, literally more than twice the level being reported from approved Moderna/Pfizer 2nd dose.

@Zoroto - As usual, good to see you managing to spin even what 'might' be good news into something negative. If I were you, I'd just leave here for good and get your vaccine back home. Life here must be very miserable for you.

Kurisupisu is probably referring to the deaths of 23 very frail elderly patients shortly after receiving the Pfizer vaccine in Norway. The Norwegian Medicines Agency has investigated 13 of the deaths so far and concluded that common adverse reactions of mRNA vaccines, such as fever, nausea, and diarrhoea, may have contributed to fatal outcomes in some of the frail patients.

Politicians have to be used for the human experiment.
Then doctors and nurses.
Then us.
proxy
Pfizer cut off deliveries to Canada this week and is demanding special tax concessions, so there ya go.
Samit Basu
@kazumichi
Huh? Joe Biden, Mike Pence, Mitch McConnell, and Kamala Harris all already got the vaccine in front of live camera.
Redbear
Talking about putting all your eggs in one basket...
but as the article stated:
"The Japanese government also has an agreement with AstraZeneca Plc for doses sufficient for 60 million people, alongside a contract with Moderna Inc for 25 million people."
So Japan has not put all its eggs into one basket, but has been wise enough to sign contracts with all the leading vaccine makers. Moreover, it is free to everyone in Japan. Japan has done good job on the vaccine front.
Kazumichi
Samit,
This article is about Japan.
Those useless knuckleheads who messed up this country have to prove us it's safe, i mean

Good news, maybe just maybe the end is in sight.

@Samit Basu
Sure they did.
Except fake ones.
Check out this video clearly showing that those "important" people did not get vaccinated at all.

I 100% agree!

Redbear, I think the complaint is that govt review/approval process should begin for the other vaccines as well. Of course this may (okay, will because Japan is insisting on clinical trials involving not just Asian people but "Japanese" people) require action from the relevant pharmaceutical company, which might be the cause of the hold-up, but the govt should also be highly motivated to get this under way.
Just my opinion of course, but if (as this article says) half the country gets the vaccine this year, the govt will try to open up business as usual even more, I see greater risk for those poor unfortunates who were unable to get vaccinated. Recent strains are reported to be preferring younger people than the original virus, and if one of them further mutates to induce more severe symptoms as well we could be in trouble.
I agree that Japan has done well on the ordering of vaccines, but let's wait and see how the govt approval and administering of them goes. Japan has a large population and it won't be easy.

So, you believe in a conspiracy so detailed and careful that was able to fool literally thousands and thousands of experts around the world, scientists, doctors, nurses, etc. Even under a level of attention that no other vaccine has ever had. Involving hundreds of people, billions of dollars, thousands of hours of work, and that it worked perfectly without any hitch, giving perfectly coherent data open to the scrutiny of the whole world that has not found any problem with it, as if it actually were safe and efficient...
But somehow this super perfect conspiracy cannot simply replace the contents of a few vials with water and has to fake immunizations with empty syringes without needles, in front of video cameras....
Sure, totally believable, obviously the cleaning staff lady was too important to risk her health, all the other explanations easily found in the internet (posing for the camera, repeating the shot, etc.) must be all part of the conspiracy
Raw Beer
What is so complicated about injecting a select few with saline?
Remember that nurse (Tiffany Dover) that fainted a short while after her vaccination. Imagine if Biden, Pence, or McConnell fainted or had a more serious adverse reaction.
Mr Kipling
Kurisupisu is probably referring to the deaths of 23 very frail elderly patients shortly after receiving the Pfizer vaccine in Norway. The Norwegian Medicines Agency has investigated 13 of the deaths so far and concluded that common adverse reactions of mRNA vaccines, such as fever, nausea, and diarrhoea, may have contributed to fatal outcomes in some of the frail patients.
Ahar.....23 very sick and frail elderly died within 28 days of taking the vaccine. NOT because they took the vaccine. Though the minor body changes that may occur with any vaccine may have contributed to some of this number.
This doesn’t show that the vaccine is dangerous, but may lead to not giving it to those on deaths door!
Sia
The risk of not use the vaccine because of complication is much more than other options in death result issue.
Alex
People keep questioning that it took so quick to create, test it ect....yeah that's because millions of dollars was invested and thousands of scientists, testers ect were involved. Its amazing what people can do when everyone has a common goal, lets home that next time the same things happens and that we are prepared. But of course people will believe what they saw on Youtube, Facebook, Twitter ect....
virusrex
That is precisely the argument, a super-efficient conspiracy able to do something so horribly complicated without problem, but at the same time could not find out a better method to "fake" immunizations but the crudest, easiest to find out way available? That is nonsense, anybody thinking for a couple of seconds would understand this would be completely illogical, specially because there are other ways impossible to find out that are not complicated at all.
And it would be completely simple to avoid showing an important politician fainting after the vaccination, just ask them if they have the personal proclivity to react that way to any kind of painful stimulus like the nurse have and take care of this possibility if it exist, or ignore it if they answer they do not have it. The risk of more serious adverse effects is well known already, only people that don't understand science would think a couple of dozens of immunizations have a realistic possibility of including one example.
virusrex
Terribly sorry but you are the one that is writing things that are false, vaccines companies in Japan are never free of liability, as I wrote they have to subject every lot of vaccine to be tested by the Japanese government to corroborate both safety and efficacy. This is the contrary of being exempt from liability.
You can simply search for the National Test system for vaccine quality (ワクチンの国家検定) for example in https://www.niid.go.jp/niid/ja/kentei-top.html
This completely contradicts what you wrote as false, vaccines are extremely well controlled and companies that try to put in the market faulty products will have consequences. Instead of falling for misleading information of antivaxxers (and falsely accuse those that correct that information) try following your own advice and inform yourself better.
i@n
Seems pfizer has troubles deliveribg supplies.
Even if vaccine is approved soon, might taje a while before Japan receives first delivery
i@n
This could be the reason vaccine companies werent rushing applications for approvals, they have enough outstanding obligations atvthe moment and for the foreseeable future
Whatsnext
Pfizer has protected liability in Japan. Just look it up.
i@n
They already have a schedule? That's good if true. Means the vaccine companies have already committed to a delivery schedule
virusrex
Done, it is false, it can still be punished, their license revoked, investigated even criminally, etc. if they try to put out a defective vaccine in the market, Can you prove that Pfizer is protected against any of these forms of liability? of course not, because that is not true.
How about the vaccine national test I already linked to? why would any company need to get not only certified but also submit every lot of vaccine they produce to be re-tested before being put on the market? If there was no liability there would be no point, the reality is that this is not true. Only one form of liability (direct lawsuits from a particular) is not able to be used, but it is replaced anyway by compensation by the government without needing to prove the vaccine is the cause (something impossible in most cases) so that is also a benefit for the particulars.

Good to hear. Let's hope the roll-out is quick and effective.

@Tokyo-m: YOUR second paragraph does not merit a response. Mine was aimed at Zoroto, who let me remind you posted what I have pasted below yesterday. Do you find this a particularly useful comment? I don't. It is baseless - fake news - gossip - dangerous - whatever you want to call it. Is it clear to everyone that it is humour? This doesn't sound like someone who is very happy to live here at all.

Here's the leaked priority list:
1) LDP politicians and cronies
2) Business leaders
3) Olympic athletes and anything related to the Olympics
3) Tarento, comedians and other useless people on TV
4) Rest of Japanese people, with no particular priority -- who pays most gets it
5) Foreigners

No thanks. We've seen what happens to countries that indulge and promote conspiracy theories.

You guys go ahead! I'm not a lab rat, luckily you can't be forced to take it here and I'm not planning any international trips for at least half a decade. Perhaps, a few years down the road as I get older I'll give it a try.
In the mean time, お先にどうぞ!
Luddite
Everyone who thinks it’s better to wait to get the vaccine, just take heed of this. Despite a lockdown and despite a rapid vaccine roll out, not enough of the population has yet been vaccinated, so Covid numbers in the U.K. are not falling. In fact daily infection rates and deaths are rising. This is due to the new strains being much more infectious than the original one, you can catch it much more easily, so unless you plan to stay indoors alone until you believe the vaccine is safe, the possibility of catching Covid is very high if you continue to live life as normal.
The Japanese health services are already under strain, and if things follow patterns elsewhere there will come a time that if you need hospital treatment, for any reason, there won’t be any beds or staff. This isn’t just about Covid, it’s about protecting all health care and keeping society going.

Although we're getting 12M more, how many of that will be delivered in March? I suppose, 50,000?

@the resident
I agree certain posters seem excessively negative about all aspects of japan.
If they live here which I doubt, they should definitely look at relocating.
Fact is we aren't lockdowned, most can work, deaths and infections are the lowest in the g8.
And inspite of low testing annual death rates are unchanged.
So sure there are things to complain about, but that we have enough vaccinations isn't one of them

Life is miserable for almost everyone here, including the Japanese themselves. So by your logic everyone should just leave and let you guys enjoy each other's company with Abe and Suga in threesome?
And yes. It's widely known because it was reported by Reuters that many governments (Denmark, Estonia, Lithuania among others) had to simply give up on the Pfizer vaccine because Pfizer underestimated it's capacity.
Tokyo-gaijin
It’s taking the U.K. about 1 week to vaccinate 1 million people. At their current rate it could take around 60 weeks to cover the whole population. With Japans’ population at double that, and assuming they are as efficient as the British government; are we going to be looking at just over 2 years for the program to end! just a thought!
i@n
Maybe you meant overestimated
Kevin
Would you please cite your sources, or was this just off the top of your head?
Kevin
All of those in denial will eventually either take the vaccine or get sick. COVID is not going away on it's own, it has found it's way into nearly every corner of the globe, it won't simply go away without the vaccine. The reality is that you will take the vaccine sooner or later.
theResident
@fogetti: 'Life is miserable for almost everyone here'? Really. The last year has been horrible with a capital H for everybody, that I would say for many, many reasons due to the Pandemic. But you are only as miserable as you make yourself. If you think that, then yes I do think you should do something about it rather than just wasting your life thinking like that.
Sven Asai
Only talking for months about ordered vaccines numbers, my number card systems and producing freezers is nonsense. You’ve got to vaccinate the masses now and completely. You can hold and continue your freedom and personal opinions on vaccinations small talks after that some weeks again. lol You simply forget that those multiple infectious variants and mutations are imported daily , more and more until they dominate, and have everyday more time to develop newer and to spread. If you sleep still longer, you can even soon throw those millions of ordered vaccines into the garbage can, because they are useless then. In addition you need genome screening , 100% would be nice, but start at minimum with 5%, and also own vaccine development. What are you all waiting for? What were you given university degrees and supreme salaries for? Are you really already ready to die within the next few months or years? I hope, most of you younger people are not.
