Because it is too dangerous to start from September 18th?

"We may review the rules if the situation of the pandemic worsens or clusters of infections occur due to easing of the attendance limit," he said.

oh really? yeah.. good to know.

Should just call it the Kamikaze campaign.

Or Ketsuin Campaign.

Great news. I think the Japanese government knows now that this covid-19 is not as dangerous as was first predicted. But they have to left all the precautions slowly otherwise the fear and loathing maskies will have a temper tantrum.

Too early, big mistake.

Just look what’s happening in Europe and in other places - none with stadiums open for the public, so imagine if they were...

People wearing masks more often around here might help to slow down the spread, but that’s all, don’t act like the virus is gone for no reason and we “won this battle”.

The trend now - with these news/decisions - is for people to relax and wear it less and less specially in closed and poorly ventilated places (offices, malls etc) where the risk of spread is proven to be high.

Stay safe people and make sure you and the ones around you act carefully and responsibly - wearing masks while indoors, and keeping a social distance whenever possible.

Let’s wait and see what happens.

ironically enough most people I see wandering around without masks are Japanese elderly.. at least in my neighborhood.

There was an interesting article about covid 19 in Japan.

The articled stated the following:

the first case of infection found in an airport quarantine was on March 4. By Thursday, 828 people were confirmed to have been infected at airports, of which 328 were Japanese nationals and 500 were foreigners. Of this total, at least 769, or 93%, were asymptomatic.

and

However, according to an analysis of the virus’ genetic information conducted by the National Institute of Infectious Diseases, while the influx of the virus from Wuhan, China, was contained, the virus entered Japan from Europe and spread after mid-March.

The NIID also believes the virus flowed into Japan from Europe and resulted in resurgence since June.

and now we know the truth.

It is impossible to track such virus. But blaming foreigners is always a good way to run from our responsibilities I guess - we see this trend of throughout history all over the world.

Let’s then blame the third wave (whenever testing numbers allow that to happen) on the foreign residents who will visit their families soon.

I have noticed a reduction in mask wearing and observing the 3 Cs recently.

I have NEVER noticed people observing the 3 C's in Japan. Except at the cash tills in supermarkets, and that's only because of the markings on the floor., and then it's still a half-hearted attempt People are either clueless, don't care, or damn lazy.

“I have noticed a reduction in mask wearing and observing the 3 Cs recently. Concerning (and selfish)”

Nope. Discerning, unsheeplike, independent-minded. It means people are losing their fear of the scamdemic at least.

They’re not all shook up. Uh huh

Discerning, unsheeplike, independent-minded

To which should be added "and totally lacking in a sense of social responsibility".

Just because nobody was testing for it before March 4 here, it is hard to believe that the first infection happened in March.

Check your facts, no one is saying that.

The Japanese government confirmed its first outbreak of the disease in the country on 15 January 2020 in a resident of Kanagawa Prefecture who had returned from Wuhan, China.[2] This was followed by a second outbreak that was introduced by travelling passengers and returnees from Europe and the United States between 11 March and 23 March

The right thing to do. Japan has made the correct decision to live with the virus.

Are we talking about the same people here, @ChristopherGlen?

This is a country with a lot of mental illness, suicide etc. The government knows people need to get back to 'normality' soon or there will be more 'illnesses'.

I see it as a positive, let people make the decision to attend or not, good on you Japan,do your thing your way.

People should be able to decide for themselves if they attend or not. So no problem with this decision from my side.

“Are we talking about the same people here, @ChristopherGlen?”

Re the scamdemic, it’s possible people are making up their own minds, and not buying into the hysteria. Which is good

TOKYO

The Tokyo metropolitan government on Saturday reported 226 new cases of the coronavirus, up 39 from Friday. The number is the result of 5,301 tests conducted on Sept 9.

So, cases are not moderating in Tokyo but actually increasing, yet somehow it is ok to travel, go to crowded venues -the messages here are all over the place...
