"Osaka governor requests stronger anti-virus steps amid resurgence"

Good idea. Too slow Not enough Lacks action No real leadership but yeah, request a way!

The governor, who has said the prefecture has already entered a fourth wave of COVID-19 cases

Who said Japan is slow as against this stubborn virus. Low testing numbers and vaccine roll out. Good job, Japan is leading the world in declaring virus waves.

Are all the posts today gonna be about the COVID resurgence, ‘cause I’m getting a bit....

-4 ( +11 / -15 )

How about getting people vaccinated?

15 ( +21 / -6 )

Yoshimura is useless.

5 ( +10 / -5 )

Well, even at the height of the state of emergency there were always a handful of bars in any given district that simply stayed open. These bars were inevitably packed. So, I think what he's saying is, he wants to fine these businesses. It might have an effect. But you still have to convince the people who chose to go into these crowded bars that gathering with groups of strangers is a bad idea. I don't think the new measures will have any impact on that. As others have asked, where are the vaccines?

15 ( +17 / -2 )

This Osaka governor has been useless from the start. Why even have a governor in Osaka?

14 ( +16 / -2 )

Why does he have to request this from Tokyo? Doesn’t the governor have the power to do this himself? Come on, take the initiative, get on the front foot!!!

These politicians are running around like chickens with their heads cut off...they lost the ball long ago now it seems it’s all about saving their political asses why would anyone listen to the pathetic people is beyond me screw them all

The mainstream media and so called experts have been equally as bad if not worse than the politicians and bureaucrats but then that doesn't come as a surprise if you don't have seasoned journalist running programs but yoshimoto comedians and johnny's boy.

What does "designate the prefecture's capital as an area that needs stronger anti-virus measures" even mean? If it is not a SoE does it mean it is okay to ignore it just a bit more than a full on SoE? What a bunch of nonsense.

Tokyo will blame Osaka...because of...the...O...lyimpics...

osaka is bad, Tokyo is the bees knees. Why does Tokyo have to do testing? It’s Osaka’s fault..

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Meanwhile, as of today, only 125,580 people are fully vaccinated in Japan.

Not fully vaccinated today, fully vaccinated TOTAL

Nice and slow Japan!

Making establishments close at 8:00 rather than at 9:00 is the stronger measure they're requesting? This is basically the same SOE measure. Acrylic barriers and spacing for all restaurants and bars should be the primary steps with time being pretty much irrelevant.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

All this because unlike some other nations (e.g. NZ and Australia) you didn't commit to a national full lockdown. That would have saved lives, mental health and the economy. Strong leadership makes the difference.

Agree 100%!

That's 3 in a row!

Many brag that Japan never had a full lockdown.

Wouldn’t it be better to have had a proper one a year ago and then have a normal life as NZ, Taiwan, Australia have had since then?

Now only vaccines will control this situation, as it is completely out of control, and widely spread all around the country.

Mass testing would help to isolate larger clusters as well, however the results would reveal a reality that would bring LDP approval rates to a single digit number.

You know, tackling this pandemic would be more effective if you actually had a strategy. This constant going in and out of the SOE, not really having any logical plan while in the SOE, and having government members disregard the SOE whenever it suited them is what has gotten you into this mess.

10 ( +10 / -0 )

Ah. Those who bend to an authoritarian clampdown, cite countries with lesser populations, as examples to successfully stave off the pandemic. Australia, with 25 million & New Zealand, 5 million. Australia covers an expanse as large as the United States. There are more people in the Tokyo metro area than in Australia and New Zealand combined. The comparisons are moot and invalid.

There are less draconian measures that worked in Japan and simply need to be re-established - also, the protocols currently in place need to be emphasized and followed. The incredibly slow rollout of the vaccine and inoculating the population needs to simply speed-up and finish before September.

-7 ( +4 / -11 )

But why not another SOE? As we have seen the SOEs have been successfull in reducing cases. The one reason Osaka is above Tokyo now is that they lifted their SOE earlier. This means Tokyo's uptick is not far behind.

He weather in Osaka is beautiful at the moment, it would be a sin not to go out and enjoy it, that’s what life is all about.

We will head out today for an afternoon out and a meal. I doubt many now are staying inside cowering in fear regarding Covid. People are using their common sense and understanding the dangers. I guess if this was a virus with a high mortality rate in the healthy there would be a need for more caution. Life needs a balance and it is essential to do so and in a rational manner. We shall continue to live our lives in our usual manner unless there was a change such as a mutated form of the virus which was much mo deadly.

living in constant fear is unhealthy for the individual and society

First, the governor and mayor of Osaka should be long gone as they swore and vowed they would resign it the restructuring of Osaka was voted down. It was voted down but they are still there.bad memory.

the panic is in the governors eyes. He has no clue what to do. The bragging of doing so much better than the rest of Japan and leaving the SoE early is long gone.

We are going full speed in direction train wreck.

Is this how Mr.Suga and his party planned?

Is this the victory of humanity against the virus?

Doesn’t look to me that things are nearly to be over in Japan and in the rest of the world.

This pandemic sadly showed something that we already knew but always wanted to ignore.

That these politicians and the corporations at the helm care nothing about it’s people but are only starving for glory and money.

Japan have a very hypocrite and insensitive leading class and these face talking from their government sounds like a move to keep the chair.

So all these endless panels and meetings lead to this?

My friend back in west Europe got concerned about Japan and the lack of transparency and the difficulty to even make a proper test.

so many big negativities and slanders against the Governor of Osaka. Together with guidance from Tokyo, the numbers of covids will decrease from today. I firmly and clearly state this.

so many big negativities and slanders against the Governor of Osaka. Together with guidance from Tokyo, the numbers of covids will decrease from today. I firmly and clearly state this.

Just need to get that testing figure under control (read 'lowered') and everything will be just fine...

4 ( +5 / -1 )

Just like I had suspected Osaka is not having higher number of positive cases than Tokyo because the virus is on the rise in Osaka as the media and so called experts are making the population to believe. Looks like this virus has affected the ability for people to think or very lazy to check the testing numbers. As always the case, the number of tests continues to deemed as having no bearing on the resulting number of positive cases. It is that easy and not rocket science just a little search online reveals that Osaka is showing more cases than Tokyo because of the number of PCR test performed take for example yesterday results based on test carried out on March 28

Tokyo 1791 test 414 positives

Osaka 10,368 test 599 positive

Hyogo 1246 tests 211 Positives

At the peak Osaka used to average 4,000 tests a day while Tokyo averaged the highest nationwide at about 7,000 while Osaka has ramped up its number Tokyo has quietly reduced it's number and nobody even the experts and the media have bothered to check and point this out, instead they are busy misinforming the unsuspecting public.

It is very evident that increased testing results in increased positive cases. The numbers that have been paraded to us the public from the onset of this pandemic are super watered down and far from the reality.

Yoshimura is slimy as hell, but in this instance he's right.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Covid should be comeback many times as mad .

All year long , lockdown again lockdown keeps repeating unlimited .

He makes a show of own job doing well , what the real state of thing !!

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

while Yoshimura is also expected to request restaurants set up acrylic boards as a barrier, and ask customers to wear masks when talking.

The acrylic boards just like the ridiculous face shield we see on T.V don't do Jack, most are nothing but to show that something is being done. From what I have seen the acrylic boards are always low and short depth wise and not fully shielding 2 adjacent tables. Karaoke that are supposed to be closed are open and are flying under the radar while restaurants are scapegoated.

Japan has been stuffing around with controlling this virus for over a year and they are still stuffing around. Japan will never beat this virus. The vaccines are not the silver bullet they are praying for and even if they were it’s gonna take at least another six months for adequate percentages of the population to be inoculated to make some kind of difference. Lock the place down for a month and the virus will disappear. All the companies are complaining about months of SOE, but they do very little to stop the Dirac of the virus. They might slow the spread, but as Osaka has shown, it’s a short lived relief.

This Osaka governor could get popularity due only he frequent appeared TV program since last year.

Because it was contrast to prime minister who escapes from accountability.

But high mortality at Osaka represents his incompetence.

who had weakened medical services of Osaka is far-right political party including him "Ishin no Kai".

1 ( +1 / -0 )

There are two kinds of people: Those who think the government cares about them, and those who think.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

If anything, the SoE just delayed the inevitable and possibly made it worse by making everyone's immune system weaker

Both things are demonstrably false, there is nothing inevitable when a safe and effective vaccine can make the population immune so time is not lost by interrupting tranmssion.

And vaccines do not make anybody's immune system weaker. That is a myth debunked by science, in many cases is the natural infection the one that weakens the immune system, in the short term as a rule and in some cases even in the long term like measles.
