The most powerful temblor, with a preliminary magnitude of 5.4, shook the northern part of the island at around 12:53 a.m., registering upper 5 on the Japanese seismic intensity scale of 7 in Nakagawa and 4 in many areas near the town.

If you're interested in the Earthquakes, install the WeatherNews App on your iPhone (WNN) - although its only in Japanese, its very useful for things like Earthquakes, and Weather reports, etc. Apparently there was a small quake at 21:11 off Choshi.. But yes, Hokkaido has had a rather large number of earthquakes over the past few days ranging from 1-5 on the Japanese scale (around the Nakagawa area).... North Western tip of the Island.
