The money these crooks make and they won't even cough that much up, pitiful.

OK...……..….now lets see some REAL settlements!

I know wishful thinking!

I've never owned a property in Japan so don't know the intricacies of property ownership. Is there property insurance (house & contents), and is it common?

I would have thought the insurance companies would pay up, then pursue TEPCO and government to recover loss.

This was a manmade disaster that happened due to falsified safety reports and ignoring recommendations to upgrade the plants to make them waterproof. Their defence is based on the earthquake and tsunami being unprecedented events. However, a tsunami half of the size of the 2011 event would have caused the same scenario, which makes their defence hollow and groundless. And, the craziest thing is, they still haven't addressed the waterproofing issue on any of the other plants in their post-tsunami upgrades. They have only improved structural strength of the housings and built the sea walls higher. These people should not be chasing TEPCO and the government for compensation. They should be compensated for every yen they lost and spent in the evacuation plus huge amounts for the hardship caused by having to leave their homes. This compensation should also come with a huge apology from the criminal organisations known as, TEPCO and the Japanese Government.

These rulings in favor of the tsunami victims should be opening floodgates of more and more lawsuits, that should start to cripple TEPCO. Why this trickle of pitiful lawsuits?

I agree, but ultimately, it will be consumers and tax payers who end up footing the bill through higher electricity tariffs and city taxes.

Good argument for privatization/competition? Enough of this privatize profits, socialize losses, IMHO.

27 million yen is barely enough to buy a single apartment.

Really insulting. The courts seem as criminal as the companies.

Tepco deserve to lose. It is destroying human lives that people must know, it is evil and terrible.

I hope the engineering department at Tepco is better staffed than their legal department.

@zichi - factually correct.

It's not the Governments fault for the Earthquake, nor Tsunami.

However, IT IS, the Governments fault for the Nuclear Power plant problem. That should be plain and simple to prove. The Government also, imposed a Forceful evacuation order - therefore they must be held accountable.

Mortgages for Home owners in those areas should be waived. And lessons need to be learned going forward for other Nuclear power plant plans - that the Government needs to be liable for meltdown issues. Unforseen or otherwise....

Perhaps the Government will rethink, as a consequence of which, the benefits of Nuclear Power in such vulnerable locations.
