I will hold on for a bit longer but will the politicians do? Or the local hostess club scent will still be too irresistible and theyd still be forced to frequent them from time to time?
andy
Well done suga. He takes important & wise steps.
This will last by the end of 2021.

“hold on”...
... referring to this pseudo state of emergency?
Yeah about that, from what I’ve been seeing, people are doing just fine.
Gorramcowboy
Gives us some money and I'll hold out a little longer. POS politicians.
Nator
Sure. I'll hold on for a while. At least I have some support from the government to cover the decline in income... oh, wait, sorry, I was thinking I was in another country.
didou
LDP members have been urged to hold on longer and avoid any unnecessary outings.
Yes, they can
Cricky
Might just hold on to my tax money untill I get help from the government so LDP hold on. How about a salery cut for you? OH I have to hold on? Not you. Nice lack of leadership.
GrungeHamster
Wow, so just changing your contact tracing means you get less cases?
Less testing, less positive cases. It’s like magic! /s
kurisupisu
What is there to hold onto?
Everytime there is a so called ‘emergency’ people start cancelling meetings, this leads to a drop in income which is not being compensated.
These políticos are killing the economy without changing their own behavior...
zatoizugoodo
I don't see many people holding on. Looks like life as normal where I'm at.
dagon
The LDP is so out of touch they might as well be living in another country.
MahoYamada
Look at graph in the picture. It is pointed downward which means things are getting better.

I don't know about other guys here, but this morning my two trains I have to take to go to work were less crowded than the last days.
I would say up to 50% less crowded.
Maybe more companies start to do Telework from now...

Does he mean hold on until they’ve had their precious Olympics? And after that, they’ll “urge even more” to -let alone - acknowledge the seriousness of this pandemic, rather than actually tackle it like the ruling leader of a country should actually be doing.
I wouldn’t be surprised if this man has trouble even making decisions about when to go to the bathroom or not.

urged- being asked- encouraged- SOE is a joke, but what do you expect with this Puppet Minister?

Are Japanese politicians elected just so they can throw up their hands and say "しょうがない" at every problem that comes our way? I say our because these old goons are driven around everywhere and don't need to interact with us common folk. Make them stand in a packed Tokyo train during rush hour and they might change their minds.
Peter Neil
Just hold on a little longer. Like a couple of years.

A man with a weak leadership and poor charisma who’s unable to make bold decisions without endless meetings.

In all seriousness what do many of you people want? Nations that did hard lockdowns are facing tens of thousands unemployed. People are desperate for schools, jobs, and reopening their lives. Generational owned businesses are closed forever. Food pantries and soup kitchens cannot open due to "emergency measures" so the poor and homeless cannot get food. A man in London who feeds the homeless was brutally arrested by the police for daring to help although it broke "emergency stage 5 measures". Is this your desire?
Are so willing for this you'll be the first to rat your friends, family, and neighbors so you can virtue signal how on board being a "hero" you are? God forbid they go out for some exercise or to but food with what little cash they have left. You'll be the first on the balcony banging your pot for our healthcare "heros".
If hard lockdown happened here what will you do to feed yourself and your families when you and your job are declared "non-esential"? Will your boss pay you for not working? And how many of your "clients" would Zoom or Skype meetings? Will your spouse's job be non-essential too? Who pays the rent and buys the food then?
Some of you really astound me.
William77
kyushubill you forgot a little detail, there is a pandemic going on,so I’m amazed by your lack of responsibility.
Monty
@kyushubill
One of the best posts I read here in a while.
But nobody from all the Lockdown screamers and fear mongering people will answer you.

@William77
Oh yes by all means wreck civilization then.
Derek Grebe
Hold on, says the LDP.
Just keep pretending we're doing something for a little more time.
Keep packing onto your rush hour trains under magical incantation of "State of Emergency"
We need just a few more weeks to magic up from thin air, figures that will prove the Olympics are safe, even if nobody attends - then Dentsu and the Yaks will get their slice.
Yes, we know we promsed they'd only cost 7 bn and would save the economy, but just be patient a little longer so we can carve out the tax payments generations yet unborn between ourselves.
Oh, and if you need help, look to the government "as a last resort". Sign on if you're destitute - and you will be, unless you went to the same school as we did.
Just keep giving us a little more time to fill our pockets. But don't ask us for anything to justify your patience.

Some people really love to complain!
Infection numbers are down, people can still work, restaurants are getting compensated, vaccine will be introduced in the next 2 weeks and the death rate here is very low. Looks like Japan got it right.

You'd be wise to take a look at how they handle the situation in Australia. The differences in methods and results of Oz and Japan couldn't be more stark.

You mean like arresting pregnant women walking in parks. Arresting old men sitting at a bus stop because they are chatting with one another even though they had masks on. Arresting a Pakistani refugee Kebab shop owner for opening for take out, even though the Pizza Hut and KFC across the street could be open.
I could go on, but yes the methods could not be more stark.

The people are patient , and resilient amidst all this suffering, and yet it is the politicians and the entertainers who have a sense of entitlement who are flaunting the restrictions. They blame the young but why should the young adhere to the policies when those who enacted them can't? Why is Kawai Anri, a convicted criminal still able to retain her parliament seat and still collect her pay and bonuses when honest people are struggling to survive? The hypocrisy is maddening.

I like know if non -Japanese can Enter into Japan without Visa? after Feb 7th? Or no guarantee even past March 7th?
anon99999
'Hold on" till the Olympics are over since they have to be held whatever the virus situation anyhow we are told.
Sam Watters
@Kyushubill. The best comment on this panic-based government power-grab I have read!
Nator
Is 'panic-based government power-grab' referring to Japan? Because doing the absolute minimum and never wielding anything more than a 'request' is hardly a 'panic-based government power-grab'.
Or is it referring to the UK? If so, maybe look at how the number of cases and deaths were rising before the lockdown and how they're falling now, and calculate how many thousands of lives they saved.
Then again, the UK and US are at least providing financial support to people. Japan might not have the hard lockdown, but they don't have the financial support either.
But sure, it's a comment ranting about 'virtue signalling heroes', so a certain segment of the audience is going to love it.
Albert
Normal people have to hold on but meanwhile they use tax money to visit hostess during corona.

“Politicians........local hostess club... will still be irresistible and they'd still be forced to frequent them from time to time?”
The sacrifices these guys are making on our behalf; putting themselves in (c)harms way, going out on a (nubile) limb, making sure their fingers are on the pulse.
Cricky
To be fair if your personality is such that paying a hostess to put up with you is your last hope of female company. Probably being a politician is the only job available or a used car salesman. Think a pimp has more moral respect.
justasking
Is Suga the PM or a cheer leader? We don't need a cheer leader. We can cheer on our own, thank you very much.

@kyushubill
Mass testing. That's all we want. Not lockdown, not anything.

But can hold people in jail indefinitely? Huh?

The country which only needs and care about foreign people when their economy is dead or when they are going to be dead. Otherwise they dont think other people and other nation also exist. Advance country but management world than third world nations.

@iradickle.
Ah...ok...I understand now which post you mean.
I put 2 posts and I didnt know which one you refer to.
And no, it is always the same Monty; Me!
And I agree with Kyushubills post!

Suga made the right decision on this.
However, by promising real results by February, when he must have known that enough people would defy government requests not to see family over New Year, meaning thousands flooded out of the cities to the country and back again, granting the perfect chance for the virus to spread, he drastically hurt his credibility when he must have been sure that infections would be on the rise throughout January.
Sadly, I doubt that the LDP will be punished in this year's elections.

The SOE is sadly necessary and is likely working. But what Id really like to know is WHERE ARE THE DAMN VACCINES?
Even with Trump’s no plan, America’s up to 1.5 million vaccinations a day. At that rate we could give every man woman and child a 2-shot course in 170 days. But we have to have the vaccine.
And SOE or not, there will be no economic recovery until this public health crisis is solved

There will be in future other ones. Covid-20. Covid-21. Covid-22.
There can't be a Covid-20 as 2020 is over. Hopefully there will not be another Covid this year and next year.

Nope 7th of February is when he promised to have it under control if he fails he needs to resign.

Hold on without any support anymore, Where's the money to feed us who have now become destitute and homeless
