By the time any supplies arrive there, most of the major cities would have already fallen. If they aren't already, they are definitely surrounded and being bombarded. By the end of this week, they will probably also be completely cut off from the sea.

This is an outstanding support from Japan. We will never forget this," Ukrainian Ambassador to Japan Sergiy Korsunsky told reporters after meeting with Japanese Finance Minister Shunichi Suzuki.

Japan doing it's part under restrictions and article 9.

We still help more then other countries who don't have restrictions, could help more, but want to be neutral or just sit and watch.

South Korea a massive disappointment but expected to do the bare minimum.

India, was a surprise. They join Quad Alliance with Japan, but when it comes to Ukraine and Russia..... That's too far for Mr. Modi of India.

Japan even with restrictions, still has volunteer soldiers 70 of them helping with Ukraine, supplies sent, money given, humanitarian aid provided, even refugees Japan is willing to take some and give them a new home.

Before you expect Japan to move a Mountain, maybe have some expectations from other countries as well, anti-Japan crowd never happy no matter what Japan does. Fact

Even USA is limited in their response on how much they can do in Ukraine. Fact

Great gesture. Would have been nice if they could send 5.56 ammo along with them.

Japan needs to amend Article 9 now. Don't wait for a crisis on your front doorstep to happen.

Even USA is limited in their response on how much they can do in Ukraine. Fact

True that, in part because if the US were to get involved, the madman leading Russia could likely go nuke, in part because he no longer has his tool in the WH. Putin like other maniacal despots before him wants to rule the world, which should scare most of us who want to live our remaining years in peace, and want our kids, and theirs to do likewise. Even scarier is Putin and Xi Jinping are partners for now, and because both seem hellbent on ruling the world who knows what might happen if they have a dispute over territory. The global titans of industry have aided and abetted Putin and Xi and need to take some responsibility for helping create the madness we're seeing. Wars for other state's resources and territory are part of human history, and it's been the greediest and most violent that have created and maintained the cycle . In democracies people can choose to elect leaders who might be less greedy and violent. If in democracies people continue to vote in extremist money worshippers and and other narcissitically impaired individuals then we get the government we deserve and remain on the loop until we're gone in the big bang.

Haha. Oh Japan. Keeping us relevant I suppose....

With one of the world's 4th largest economy, Japan is relevant.

19 ( +28 / -9 )

I think this conflict will go on and on. Bullet proof vests sound like a pretty reasonable thing to give.

I'm so proud of all the nations standing with Ukraine.

Thank you, and while at it pass some onto the Syrian Freedom Fighters!!!

The world is beginning to get a taste of what the people of Chechnya, Syria, Gaza, Palestine, Georgia, Sudan, and many more have been enduring from aggressors like Russia, Israel, China, NATO for years.

Invasions, Occupations, and wars are the work of an EVIL mind.

Russia is stopping fertilizer exports so the rest of the world is going to start wondering soon too...

That must delight the global right, knowing once again their idol Putin is hurting others, such a 'strong' and 'smart' man, am I right, right wingers?

Long passed time for innovative entrepreneurs to find ways to work around markets controlled by Russian and Chinese oligarchs, or oligarchs from any country that have a stranglehold over any resource. If only a handful of the born to wealth barons in any industry can control things, once gain I question how effective capitalism as we've seen practiced especially in the last century has been, except as a system that allows a fraction of the population to gain more power and wealth, while huge numbers of humans subsist at, even below, the poverty level.

1 ( +10 / -9 )

Mr Kishida, you can transfer weapon systems to USA or NATO for 'testing' purposes (so constitutionally legal), US will transfer to Ukraine for testing. Ukraine desperately need Hand Arrow MANPADS, and Japan needs to battlefield test the system, WIN WIN. @ ¥15 mil ea. Japan can afford to send hundreds to Ukraine, and if they work well will save millions of lives.

7 ( +15 / -8 )

These are needed by the civilians in Donbass.

-6 ( +5 / -11 )

@reasonandwisdomnippon

It's indeed generous of Japan to provide assistance to Ukraine.

I see absolutely no anti Japan rhetoric comments above so what on earth are you referring to ???

Apparently it's impossible for you to make a comment or opinion without being prejudice , whilst hailing Japan as the best and great country and using another countries language.

If you want to be only Japanese then try "only" using "your own language" and if reading other's opinion is so upsetting for you then you probably best to not read them either.

At this point in the Ukraine war the top priority should be the complete evacuation of all civilians and providing health care and food and shelter.

Countries of the world come together and help the evacuation.

Stop fighting with putin because he's not going to back down.

It's painfully obvious !

South Korea a massive disappointment but expected to do the bare minimum.

I’m western European and I follow every day both news from Germany and France and they never mentioned Japan which has zero political and powerful point in this crisis.

Also why again this whataboutism?

Why you have to compare your country with Korea (again) in this matter?

Your old disputes have nothing to do with what is happening in my continent.

-11 ( +10 / -21 )

from aggressors like Russia, Israel, China, NATO for years

Odd you didn’t mention the US, since it’s the ONLY major country that’s been in a constant state of hot and cold war for decades. It was Bill Clinton who pivoted NATO into Eastern Europe.

This is a very kind gesture by the Japanese Government.

However, I find it bit ironic because a Japanese bulletproof vest manufacturer was sued by the US Justice department for selling defective vests (half could not stop bullets) to Law Enforcement Agencies in the US.

The Japanese company lost and had to pay a $68 million settlement.

I hope that they have some in childrens' sizes. They are shooting everybody without discrimination.

True that, in part because if the US were to get involved, the madman leading Russia could likely go nuke, in part because he no longer has his tool in the WH.

He never had a tool in the WH. He had an adversary that he couldn’t pin down.

The administration didn’t deter this alliance that’s for sure, quite the opposite. China is watching and waiting.

The global titans of industry have aided and abetted Putin and Xi and need to take some responsibility for helping create the madness we're seeing.

I agree.

Wars for other state's resources and territory are part of human history, and it's been the greediest and most violent that have created and maintained the cycle . If in democracies people continue to vote in extremist money worshippers and and other narcissitically impaired individuals then we get the government we deserve and remain on the loop until we're gone in the Big Bang.

I just don’t see that changing anytime soon.

@zichi

I know that's alot of people but however its not impossible is it !

It's entirely possible.

Japan is providing aid to Ukraine , which is better that nothing .

Every amount matters nomatter the size.

We cant expect Japan to be able to do too much with it's own constitution being written by foreigners .

If you can call it their own constitution ?

-8 ( +0 / -8 )

South Korea a massive disappointment but expected to do the bare minimum.

South Korea sending $10 million in humanitarian aid and also helping Ukraine with Cyber security.

Some posers cant resist attacking South Korea at every opportunity. Disgraceful.

Every bit of aid helps Ukrainians on the grown and I am sure they are grateful for everything being done by everyone helping.

These are needed by the civilians in Donbass.

The Russians and their terrorist gangs have been taking more of the Donbas region from the Ukrainians, so I am afraid it is too late to get western aid to those areas. They now find themselves at the mercy of violent usurpers from the east.

-1 ( +4 / -5 )

Helmets are also needed. These & bullet proof vests are needed not just by the soldiers, but also for firefighters, ambulance people, volunteers etc.

7 ( +8 / -1 )

The world cannot be ruled by criminals bullies anymore!!!!!

says who and whose army?

Japan a stone's throw from Russia, with a current territorial dispute and sending flack jackets....sigh.

Budapest memo 1994 says Ukraine will be protected by UK, US, Nato if it gives up nukes. All lies no obviously. The free world with captain feathersword MKII is back in charge.

Dancing is all you're going to get...any where.

Democracy???

NOT if captain feathersword is in charge.

japan is taking part of the fight by supporting Ukrainian with military equipment, this is not acceptable.

However, I find it bit ironic because a Japanese bulletproof vest manufacturer was sued by the US Justice department for selling defective vests (half could not stop bullets) to Law Enforcement Agencies in the US.

That was 4 years ago. Doubt the same issues exist today.

Are Syrians white ?

If they are then they will be getting some. If not then they suffer

the same fate like the Palestinians.

japan is taking part of the fight by supporting Ukrainian with military equipment, this is not acceptable.

Sending equipment to Ukraine for their survival is unacceptable but sending troops, mercenaries and bombs to kill Ukrainians IS acceptable? Some posters have their heads on backwards.

Perhaps you prefer that Japan sends it's military to defend the innocent Ukrainians and bomb the Russian invaders instead of just non lethal equipment?

1 ( +2 / -1 )

I bet they send the Ukranians boxes with vests in them, along with Abe No-masks, and an assortment of Japanese foods like ramen, jellies, SoyJoy bars, Green Dakara, along with an instruction booklet on how to wear the vests and how to eat the food.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Sending vests is ok but falls short of the yard when Tokyo can organize a peacekeeping force instead.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

Sorry, my mistake.

The bulletproof vest settlement with Toyobo was $66 million, not $68 million.

And I agree, helmets are also needed to protect Ukrainian citizens and military.

Yes, perhaps, hopefully, that issue has been fixed by now.

All international help is needed. And ASAP.

There was a story this morning in the news about a CNN photographer whose vest stopped two bullets. Everything helps.

By the time any supplies arrive there, most of the major cities would have already fallen.

The defense press has mentioned that transport aircraft from NATO nations and others are landing at Polish military airfields at a brisk clip to unload the promised weapons and supplies. Another article I saw today claims the US and NATO are fulfilling Ukrainian weapons orders in a day and sometimes less.

The US is in discussions now with Poland about supplying them with F-16s to replace their MiG-29s if they are transferred to Ukraine. The hold up is the possibility that if the aircraft came out of the USAF inventory they may have some equipment that is either not allowed to be released to foreign nations or not compatible with the weapons or radios Poland's other F-16s use. Not sure how big a deal that is but the US and Poland are working it out now.

Uniqlo's heat-tech bullet-proof vests?

I really want one!
