The COVID-19 is here to stay like the HIV.

No control, no plan, no restrictions, Abe's plan is just to wait for the vaccine and keep the economy open.

Good that they also include the number of serious cases now in the reporting

-2 ( +11 / -13 )

389 new cases, 24 were serious cases requiring hospitalization. so that's 1 for every 100 people results in serious medical attention. Better chances in getting 100 coin in the scratch lotto tickets. This is good news as long as your not the 1.

24 out of 389 = 1%? Time to go back to elementary school rgcivilian1.

Thats over 6% or in your terms "6 for every 100 people".

As many of us were saying yesterday, this is the real figure now that the 3 day weekend results are out of the way. And guess what, it's one of the highest recorded so far.

You're dead right.Ain't nothing been cured since polio.

Unfortunately polio still exists in some countries

-4 ( +5 / -9 )

Of the total, 24 were serious cases requiring hospitalization.

What was the age group? What medicine did they use to treat them and whats the prognosis for future infects?

-6 ( +3 / -9 )

These reported numbers are worthless. Rather than the actual situation, it is just a reflection # of tests performed. After obon, when people get back to work, clinics open, and testing facilities can process more tests, the numbers will go above 500.

The holidays season reduced testing, so you get a reduced # of reported cases, which the government will use to pat themselves in the back and justify further actions to increase covid spread in Japan. The Go To Eats campaign is going to start in a month, and packing people in tight indoor quarters will certainly help mitigate the spread _

There's zero chance that Japanese government would be willing to delay or cancel Go To Eats, too many promises of businesses and kick-backs already agreed with the businesses already.

Correction thanks kuroneko, not back to school put my glasses on. lol any yacking on the phone at the same time. Correction appreciated. Sorry readers 6 our 100, still not bad as long as your not 6 out of the 100. Masks wash, sanitize and by all means no OPEN blasting.

Yes because the Corona bites only after 10PM . :)))))))))

I’m starting to believe we are dealing with an intelligent virus, as long as you party throughout the day, you’re good to go, after 10PM and when the parking lots become cheaper it’s time to hunker down if you want to live!

The pandemic will end when people get fed up taking precautions and learn to accept a degree of risk.

People at the end of the day have a limited capacity for fear .

Plus if you're under 70 it's clear now your chances of dying are close to zero.So basically people are being asked to sacrifice for the good of the elderly. And sorry I am realistic enough to realize humanity also has a limit to compassion for strangers

Already we are starting to see this

Golden week, nobody traveled 700 cases a day

Obon, some people travel 1000 cases a day

New year, many will travel probably 2000 plus cases.

Back last year in 2019 December near X'mas Eve I was suffering a very bad Flu like symptom with a raging fever and burning lungs and went to get flu tested and came out negative so Im thinking it could of been a case of Mild Covid-19 as it took me over a week to recover since they were convering up the fact that COVID-19 was leaked around that era. I will truly never know or findout.

7 ( +8 / -1 )

Abe doesn't care anymore. The public are not protesting. No plan, doesn't care, limits the testing. The Japanese public seem comfortable with it. They just complain on social media which does nothing. Nobody goes out and protests here. They even vote for him.

And what about Osaka? Saitama? Okinawa? Oh right, once again, the "world" revolves around Tokyo only!

There are private clinics/hospitals who administer antibody tests.

Here's one in Osaka I think you can make a reservation via the website:

Last week, number of Corona virus new case in Japan was beyond Italia.

Last month, number of Corona virus fatality in Japan was 39 officially.

This month, it is already 64 despite less than 2 weeks.

Japanese Abe government repeats misstep against Corona virus epidemic.

Thanks for the stats. This clearly signifies situation is worsening.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Other than that you would not know that there is a raging pandemic.

Really? You ever get outside of Tokyo?

0 ( +2 / -2 )

There are Currently at least 5 different studies from around the world which I know of an ALL of them say that actuall numbers were probably ~4 - 50 times higher then officially known !

2 of them from Germany one saying x4 (kupferzell) made by the RKI and one from Heinzberg made by a Virologist who is against most Corona measures who found out that x15-20 times from the official numbers should be correkt.

1 from London saying 10 times the ammount would be correct (from 300k to 3.4 million)

1 from Ischgl saying something about 50 times the ammount if I understood correct or was it 50% of all ppl living there ? sorry would need to look it up again to verify but you should check it up yourself anyways to make sure ;)

and last one I know of was made in Italy, Bergamo where they said that 50% of the population was infected as well even though they thought it was much less.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

So you could actually be pretty sure that there are WAY more people infected as the official numbers state ... but as long as people don't die in masses it shouldn't be that much of a problem

1 ( +3 / -2 )

@Reckless

are so many people still masking up in Tokyo?

In Kyoto, the percentage just keeps dropping both indoors and outdoors. I’d guess it’s down to 50% these days... that’s been a big bummer.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

@Youkai

I guess that's one measure that could be used to determine the estimates' accuracy, number of deaths.

Is there any of the studies which tried to corroborate the estimate with excess mortality? Or used excess mortality as the means to arrive at the estimate?

It is interesting to note that countries which use the drug Avigan, also known as **favipiravir, have diminished cases of COVID-19, first mainland china (which has been down to zero, single digits), and now Russia, see**

Tokyo reported on Friday 389 new cases of the novel coronavirus....Of the total, 24 were serious cases requiring hospitalization.

That is a misinformation. The number of serious cases, 24, is not out of "389 new cases" but out of all currently hospitalized Covid-19 patients, which is 1,560.

https://stopcovid19.metro.tokyo.lg.jp/

The grand total of people in Tokyo tested positive so far is 17,069. Of which, 1,560 are currently hospitalized, among which 24 are considered serious, requiring ventilators.

@Jtsnose pls use url shortener

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

OK, I get it, as some of you were saying they didn’t include exact figures.

It still doesn’t mean that this isn’t true, it just means that’s not as specific as maybe they should have. But I have to be honest, some of you are really nitpicking the results in these new stories. I mean come on guys, you can’t expect to have everything that you want now can you?

0 ( +1 / -1 )

@Larr Flint

For short time we went down to 200 cases a day!

Coronavirus infection reporting has nothing to do with actual spread rate and more to do with the rate of testing. Days with more testing done will show higher infection count, days with fewer testing done will show lower infection count.

Coronavirus outbreak is beyond control in Japan now.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

The big news from those numbers is that there were almost 1000 more recoveries across Japan than there were new cases. COVID is peaking in Japan, and the country is starting to get on top of it.
