The school has taken down numerous photos of the boys huddled together and queueing up to high five each other. No attempts at social distancing at all, no masks. Fortunately, many people online have screenshots of the photos. The school, should be prosecuted for putting it’s staff and students at risk.

How not to contain the virus. Disgraceful behaviour.

How many of these people do at least "feel ill" ?

It doesn't really matter. They have it, and therefore they can pass it on to other people.

It is absolutely impossible to distance playing soccer Kumagaijin.

Its a team sport where you mark or are being marked.

This school sounds like the private schools in inaka that are known for regularly appearing at the Koshien baseball tournament. Their main sports club ends up full of ringers (out of prefecture kids) who live in a dorm. Check out the numbers, out of the 88 members of the team testing positive, 82 live in a dorm. The "private school" aspect matters here because most public system schools can't recruit across prefecture borders.

Unless they have been playing behind closed doors, every match this team plays will have parents from I dunno, maybe ten prefectures. No-one sends their kid to somewhere like this without being hardcore into supporting the team.

Irresponsible beyond words.

Why on earth are these teams still playing, and traveling to play games in other prefectures? Professional sports have had to shut down and they are in virtual bubbles in order to try and limit any spread for goodness sake.

This is proof that schools can be a breeding ground for this virus.

Large numbers of kids in close proximity to one another, club activities being allowed to continue - all it takes is one case.

How many of these people do at least "feel ill" ?

It states that "All 91 people have either no or mild symptoms", so they seem to be in good shape as of now. But since the first case was only confirmed 3 days ago this may change I suppose.

Hundereds of lives will be disrupted by this at the very least, seems as though it could have been avoided. I'm sure schools the length of the country are taking notice of it.

The virus isn't being spread from team to team during games

Says who? In your previous post you stated that "if they keep 2 meters apart, shouldn't be a problem."

So if they don't keep 2 metres apart, it's a problem. You can't keep 2 metres apart in most team sports, especially a sport full of sweat, snot & saliva like football.

Nobody got sick. Who cares.

Who cares what you think? Nobody.

Soccer is not a social-distancing sport. It is full of up-front and close contact, between both team-mates and opposing players. If anyone wants to argue with this former soccer coach about that fact, he or she is an idiot.

We all know Bukatsu can ruin their education, but now it's ruining their health!

People which are not stuck in the "true man do not fret in front of tiny virus" or whatever is trendy at the time ?

For all reason already stated and also for further response.

There were talk about group testing by mixing several sample or sewage testing. The fact that we got this number of contamination should bring back the idea. By testing sewage of dormitory on regular basis they could spot infection before it reach this kind of number and reduce the risk of overshot (or any other word official see fit). That could also be extended to other place gathering people as regular basis like office building.

and do I get it right, they were put into a Hospital because they are infected and not because they are in a bad shape or anything

The article says, "pupils and teachers infected at the school have been hospitalized or remain at the dorm". It's a bit unclear about how many were hospitalized.

hospitalized

That really worries me and the man in his 70's !!! shock and horror

Apparently the team made three trips out of Shimane in the previous month, to Osaka, Tottori, and Kagawa for "practices etc.". Unless we are naive, this means they were playing other teams.

The big losers here are probably going to be other kids in regular schools in Shimane who could end up with all kinds of restrictions due to this. I hope it won't be kids all across Japan.

The virus isn't being spread from team to team during games,

Given that you claimed that it is possible to play soccer, a physical contact sport, and socially distance, I don't see why I could give this comment any credibility either. Unless you are able to evidence the claim.

Why are the tennis courts near me either closed or forced to operate at 50% capacity when soccer, a much more group-oriented, dangerous sport, is continuing as usual?

NHK showed their facilities, which were extremely communal in nature - eating, bathing, etc. Craziness. Japan's post covid world will need to allocate and respect individual space, even if it does go against the culture.

Its not impossible to social distance playing soccer. Its just that coaches call the players in for "shugo" and players eating their lunch together that spreads the virus. Otherwise, if they keep 2 meters apart, shouldn't be a problem. Regardless, this won't be the only team that becomes a cluster. Japanese sports coaches are not concerned with safety. Shugo!

Nothing to see here - move on. The kids will get over it quickly.

The virus isn't being spread from team to team during games, its being spread from within teams during team meetings and not social distancing. I've seen them all huddled together on the bench or when they are watching the other teams play. Coaches and parents turn a blind eye to all this huddling together. Parents don't dare to question anything the coach does and most coaches just don't give a hoot.

OK so these kids played stayed in a dormitory, played soccer and caught the corona virus.

They are victims. Not people to be condemned or despised.

Every night we can see professional baseball or sumo.

A sumo tori actually died , but they are not vilified.

Loosen up everyone. Corona is out there. (like the truth)

Every one is susceptible. All it takes is a little bad luck.

This mob had bad luck.

They are not stupid.

They are just trying to get on with their lives and do what they love.

Nobody got sick. Who cares.

Look, Japan doesn't have an election coming up. Here in America, we have to milk the virus for all it's worth so we can keep the economy in the toilet until November so we can get rid of Trump and also to show everyone that "capitalism has failed", but Japan doesn't have to do all that.
