A 44-year-old visually-impaired woman is in a coma after she and her guide dog were hit by a car in Tokamachi, Niigata Prefecture, police said Tuesday.
According to police, the incident occurred at around 11:20 p.m. on Sunday. NTV reported that the woman, Sachiko Ikeda, and her dog were crossing a one-way street along National Route 117 when they were hit by a car. The dog was killed at the scene.
Ikeda was taken to hospital and remains in a coma, police said, adding they are questioning the 34-year-old driver of the car over the accident.
NTV reported that Ikeda's family said she had gone to the convenience store but had gotten lost and then called them for help.© Japan Today
