Hint: add a "prince." Worked for Disney.

Good.

There's hope for me yet?

The history is interesting.

As to their requirement, would male and over 80 be acceptable, not attending high school?

Hint: The title "princess" is determined by sex, not gender. It's sad to see Japan erasing its own culture when they can't even understand the terminology being used. This is an insult to the Empress. You can have an alternative position for men in tourism, but you don't need to erase women and women's achievements to do it.

Why not having both a Prince and a Princess

-3 ( +7 / -10 )

Hmmm, confusing . So I'm a male but can demand people to call me "princess"?

-1 ( +9 / -10 )

Oh Japan don't start with this nonsense

No, a princess should not have a hairy rear, be able to grow a beard or stand up to urinate in the men's room. Try: King, prince, jack of spades, but stop this bull.

Can't wait to see the makeup on the boys.

Sorry. Sick Canadian humour.

-6 ( +6 / -12 )

Good idea. From behind I can’t tell the difference between Japanese men or women. Face masks make it even worse.

Whatever turns you on, who are we to judge.

Exactly, there's enough of this stupidity around already. A princess is female and a prince is male; it's a very simple concept.

Future anticipated announcement: The tourism board in Kashihara, Nara Prefecture, proudly announces that it adopts the title "Non-Designated Biological Human Unit Sarara." How proud the biological humans and/or the laboratory technicians must be, to see their "Unit" as Ambassador!

Just change the name to Nara Queen and problem solved

Half of Shinjuku Ni-chome will be pleased with that.

You can demand people call you anything you like, you've always been able to do that.

I can demand people call be "King Fluffy Bunny the 3rd" if I choose to. Who cares

-3 ( +6 / -9 )

What tourism?

-4 ( +3 / -7 )

As long as the Princess becomes a queen then all is well!

-2 ( +5 / -7 )

Japan doesn't have kings and Queens and prince and princess anway.

Emperor or Empress.

Royalty became just a false figurehead long ago.

Nara can do whatever it wants and having a non gender specific princess will probably help tourism.

Personally i think it ridiculous tho !

-12 ( +0 / -12 )

Is Hello Kitty really female ?

-6 ( +4 / -10 )

As to their requirement, would male and over 80 be acceptable, not attending high school?

Yep. If you fall into this category, feel free to make an application. I think your chance of success would be just as low as a female aged 80.

-4 ( +3 / -7 )

"We hope many people, regardless of gender, apply for the role so that we can spread awareness of the city's attractions," a board official said.

Cool, open to females and males.

-3 ( +3 / -6 )

They have successfully generated some publicity with this announcement and will get more when the first male "princess" is chosen, for the next princess is going to be a boy princess 100%!

-3 ( +4 / -7 )

What absolute PC nonsense.

A princess is female - end of story.

4 ( +9 / -5 )

A princess is female - end of story.

If the organizers of the event are fine with including candidates of any gender or marital status that is the only important thing.

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

Joining in the craziness we are seeing in the west. No pronouns in Japanese fortunately.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

And what is so dreadful is now virusrex is joining this discussion on a princess, and whether this person (virusrex) is a man or a woman is a mute point, but said person is surely a Japanese man and a troll extraordinaire of no substance..

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Prince, princess. Two irrelevant words today, Un the big picture. Tradition and science, though, should be duly understood. Transgenderism? These are mentally deranged or mentally unstable people without any doubt whatsoever. A Darwinian dead end for their genes and the only way it will spread is by evil woke liberals who are without any doubt mentally unstable, too.
