Norway is the biggest whale hunter in the world?

Then why is it that whenever the subject of whale hunting is discussed, people always focus solely on those 'evil' Japanese who hunt whales and dolphins?

I guess no one country will be happy untill whales are extinct just like eel and tuna....even the whale shark will be extinct why can't people share the planet??? Stop the wars, stop poluting, stop the illegal fishing and poaching. Please stop destroying the planet i feel very guilty when i look around and see the poor condition our generation is leaving the planet in for future generations. They will look at the planet they have inherited and look at us and say thanks for the mess that they will have to clean and repair if it can be repaired.

@oldman

Probably because you're on Japan Today; I'm sure you can find more discussion of Norway's whaling on Norway-focused websites. And if you head to Greenpeace, Seashepherd et al, you'll find discussion of whaling in Norway, Iceland and Japan. So spare us the disingenuous accusations of targeting the 'evil' Japanese.

So, since the ban on commercial whaling there has been over 50,000 killed. I'd imagine that number would have dropped to zero by now, without the IWC because the whales would be extinct.

Because Japan is buying the meat from Norway and either storing it in freezers or using it to feed chickens and pigs. It's quite similar to the international ban on ivory sales, but you can buy an ivory hanko and ornaments in Japan with ease because Japan still imports it. Yes, the Japanese are evil, so I guess you were half right.

The country with the worlds largest govt investment fonds is selling whale meat to one of the largest economies without going to exotic places. Really does not sound like 21. or heisei age.

Anti-Whaling nations who subscribe to a "No whales must be killed ever for any reason" philosophy should leave the IWC. The IWC was created to regulate the WHALING INDUSTRY. Conservation measures, such as Moratoriums, Sanctuaries, Catch limits, etc are all to PROTECT WHALE STOCKS FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE WHALING INDUSTRY. The Anti-Whaling nations should leave the IWC and form their own International whale protection organization.

Hunting whales is NOT the biggest cause of whale deaths today. The cause is collisions with ships.

Norway is the world’s biggest whale hunter today.

But the pro-violence animal-rights zealots prefer to attack the Japanese. I'm shocked. (Not.)
