In mentality, it would seem you are correct, yet I'm under the impression there's a few (probably literally) USN or otherwise, regulars here though.

ReformedBasher, I'm afraid you will not find too many aviation specialists on this site as most of the people that post comments on Japan Today (like the above) are probably middle school students. However, the US-2s are quite similar to the old PBYs used for maritime SAR, recon, bombing missions, etc. Although a two-engine aircraft, it was a very versatile aircraft. It is still flying today as a water bomber.

Those US-2s look good. Sturdy, can fly slow and seem to have a good rate of climb. Important for SAR in choppy seas.
