Poor women - to have lost their husbands, and then have their life plans taken away by paper-pushers. Out of curiosity, does this law only go one way, or is there an equivalent for widowers?

Terrible way !!!!!! I hope they settle down.

Japan has the same law, even harsher. If you have not obtained permanent residency when your spouse dies, they give you 3 months to leave the country. A friend had been married for 25 years, living in Japan all that time with her Japanese husband, but as the 2 never had a full-time salaried job (they did baito and were self-employed, paying taxes, etc), and the Immigration didn't like her origines, well whatever, she was refused the permanent resident status each time she applied. She got the invitation to get out of here, one week after the husband's death. Well as long as you're a foreigner, don't expect too much, you have no rights at all, only favors from the host country.

Maybe I am a dreamer, but I am posting one of my favorite songs for these people who are cought in this situation.

Imagine ~ John Lennon

Imagine there's no heaven,

It's easy if you try,

No hell below us,

Above us only sky,

Imagine all the people

living for today...

Imagine there's no countries,

It isn't hard to do,

Nothing to kill or die for,

No religion too,

Imagine all the people

living life in peace...

Imagine no possessions,

II wonder if you can,

No need for greed or hunger,

A brotherhood of men,

imagine all the people

Sharing all the world...

You may say I'm a dreamer,

but I'm not the only one,

I hope some day you'll join us,

And the world will live as one..

Awful that we had this rule in any case, but the disrespect to a dead war veteran and his son, his wife, and even his family who tried to take over sponsorship is simply incredible as even the most conservative conservative can't seem to bend over backwards far enough for servicemen. So no one but no one could agree with that decision. So who were those sick SOBs keeping the wife and son out and what 7-11 are they working at now? Surely, they are not still employed by immigration?

Poor people. This is just the tip of of the immigration mess that is affecting thousands of people in the US. The politicians (Dems/Repugs) don't have the cojones to fix this problem. It's hight time for comprehensive immigration reform.

Be assured, they are still sitting at their desks. Bureaucracy is faceless and cruel. It cares nothing of people and everything of rules.

Rules are a necessary evil.

Who are the idiots in Washington DC coming up with these idiotic laws? One poor Mexican woman who has her husband killed by a drunk driver, so now that her American husband is dead, the US government rewards her by trying to deport her? The other, a Japanese woman married to a US soldier, some one who pledges to defend and protect the USA, so....lets deport her Japanese wife? Bastards! Many people need to get fired in Washington, they live in their own little warped worlds inside of the so called Belt Way. I am happy for both of these widows who went to court and WON!
