Wild boar kills hunter in Ehime

A 58-year-old hunter died on Sunday morning after being bitten by a wild boar on a mountain near Iyo City, Ehime Prefecture. Takami Uomi was found bleeding from the stomach by his hunting friends around 10:15 a.m. He was taken to hospital in Matsuyama City but died shortly after arrival.

The fire department said Uomi seems to have been attacked by a wild boar because he told his friends via a walkie talkie that he was chasing a boar. Police said Uomi's friends later shot dead a boar believed to be the one that attacked Uomi.

Who is hunting who?

58 is too old for scrawny Japanese Oyajis to be out chasing wild boar though my father at 63 would be able to wrestle and stick one to death but he has been working in the mines and fighting in pubs his whole life.

Not kosher at all. They need to go out an hunt this boer and kill it. Anything less would be irresponsible and unfair. Incidentally they make excellent eating, boars.

Thats professional risk, I say. Boars: 1 Hunters: 0

Pity they shot the boar. It was only doing what boars do.

WilliB,

You beat me to it.

Boars: 1 Hunters: 0

Hunting wouldn't be much of a sport if it was easy now, would it?

Add hunting to the list of dangerous sports. Hunt at your own risk.

This is a risk anywhere in the world where boars are hunted. Just like bear hunting. The hunter took his chances.

"died...after being bitten by a wild boar"

Ah, I don't think porky took a "bite" of said hunter. They have razor sharp tusks that slash like a knife. If you only wound/miss them they will/can charge with those stiletto fangs.

"...he told his friends via a walkie talkie that he was chasing a boar".

Looks like Uomi wounded the pig and it turned and charged. That's why you want to thump them with a big caliber partition or A-frame type bullet that will break through all that thick bone and grizzle and tip piggy~wiggy over. I think they use old fashion soft lead Foster type shotgun slugs in Japan to hunt porkies. From my experience shooting deer with slugs, they often flatten out and don't penetrate far enough into the vitals. Not a good choice for dangerous game.

Everyone somehow thinks its cute that the pig "scored", but when this generation of oyaji hunters are all gone, who are the police gonna call to kill wild pigs when they go on a rampage? Wild animals must be managed or they will take over.

'Tis a sport indeed - and a very enjoyable one.

'Tain't a sport.

Had a feeling someone would call me on that. Fair enough.

RIP wild boar.....

I'd say its more Boar: 1 Hunters:1

John Rambo would have taken care of business with the boar.

boar 1, hunters 2-1, diner burrp, excuse me, satisfied and thankful.

He told his friends he was chasing a boar... then he caught it... he should have had a plan for after that!

I wonder if he was in thick brush or just missed. Wild pigs are nothing to mess with. I'd rather be bored by gore than gored by a boar. Hunting isn't as easy as the anti-hunters make it seem to be.
